LSU football coach Brian Kelly says starting quarterback Jayden Daniels is experiencing no residual effects from the hard hit he took in the third quarter during Saturday’s shutout win over New Mexico. Daniels left the game with what was called a lower back strain.

Senior Safety Joe Foucha will make his debut in Saturday’s Auburn game. The transfer from Arkansas was suspended the first four games due to academic issues. Kelly says Foucha has been practicing with the team during his suspension and should fit in well…

The Pelicans begin training camp today and Zion Williamson will be a full go after missing all of last season with a foot injury. New Orleans made the postseason last year as the addition of C-J McCollum in February helped the Pels get into the play-in tournament and advance into the Western Conference playoffs. Louisiana Tech heads into the bye week knowing they have to get better play from the quarterback position. The Bulldogs lost 38-14 on Saturday to South Alabama. Tech quarterback Parker McNeil threw four interceptions.

Former Lafayette Christian Academy star Zachary Clement made his first start of the season on Saturday and helped Northwestern State gets its first win. Clement threw for a career-high 366 yards and three touchdowns in the Demons 35-27 win over Lamar.

Southeastern Louisiana took down fourth ranked U-I-W 41-35 in the Southland Conference opener for both teams on Saturday night at Strawberry Stadium. It’s the highest ranked opponent S-L-U has defeated since beating fourth ranked Sam Houston in 2013.

Northwestern State and McNeese won their first games of the season on Saturday, while Nicholls remains winless as they were blown out by Jacksonville State 52-21.

Union Parish running back and LSU commit Trey Holly is the all-time leading rusher in Louisiana High School football history after rushing for 250 yards and four touchdowns in a 62-12 victory over Bastrop. Holly broke former University High star Nick Brossette’s record. Holly has 8,708 career yards and now has his eyes set on reaching 10-thousand before he’s done.

In other high school action last night, Many defeated Newman 25-17 as Arch Manning threw two touchdown passes in the loss. Airline defeated Benton by a basketball score as the Vikings were victorious 75-59. Mangham’s Jalen Williams had 656 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns in a 60-26 win over General Trass. Ruston beat Lafayette Christian 35-20 and Westgate won their 12th straight, beating St. Martinville 55-20.

The Saints say cornerback Alontae Taylor will not play tomorrow against Carolina because of a knee injury. Alvin Kamara and Paulson Adebo are listed as questionable. Kick-off is at noon.

The NCAA has placed LSU’s football program on one year of probation and former LSU offensive line coach James Cregg was given a three year show cause for improper recruiting violations. That means it will be hard for him to find a job over the next three years in college football. The NCAA has determined Cregg gave a recruit team gear during a COVID-19 dead period for visiting recruits. LSU will pay a self-imposed five-thousand dollar fine and the number of official recruiting visits will be limited to 55.
