Retired LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame next June. Joining Mainieri is two-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback Eli Manning, former LSU receiver Wendell Davis and former Tulane running back Matt Forte. Shreveports Alana Beard who was also a four-time WNBA All-Star is also part of the 2023 class.

The last time State traveled to Baton Rouge, Bulldogs coach Mike Leach won his first SEC game as M-S-U threw for an SEC record 623 yards in a 44-34 win over the Tigers. LSU beat State last year in Starkville by the score of 28-25.

Running back Latavius Murray is back with the Saints as the Black and Gold has added the veteran to their practice squad. Murray rushed for 501 yards and six touchdowns in 14 games with the Ravens last season. He rushed for nearly 13-hundred yards and nine touchdowns with New Orleans in 2019 and 2020. He’s 32-year-old. Former Nicholls receiver Dai’Jean Dixon was released from the practice squad.

But Kelly does not feel like he’s behind the other coaches in the league, when it comes to familiarity with other SEC teams. LSU Quarterback Jayden Daniels is number five in the College Football Q-B-R rankings on ESPN. Through two games, Daniels has completed 78-percent of his passes for 346 yards and five touchdowns and zero interceptions. He’s also rushed for 132 yards and one T-D.

Many were concerned about the Saints with Sean Payton no longer calling plays. New Orleans offense struggled for the first three quarters, but Coach Dennis Allen says offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael did an awesome job calling plays and Allen liked that the quarterback received the play call with plenty of time left on the play clock…

Running back Alvin Kamara only had 39 yards rushing and three catches. Allen says Kamara was dealing with a rib issue, but should be fine. New Orleans hosts Tampa Bay this Sunday.

A reporter in Cincinnati says Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow sat at his locker for 45 minutes with his uniform still on after throwing four interceptions in an overtime loss to the Steelers on Sunday.

In the latest high school football polls, Union Parish has moved up to number one in the latest Class 3A ranking. The Fightin Farmers beat Homer in the season opener by four points and knocked off Airline last Friday by the score of 26-22. Union hosts Captain Shreve this Friday. The Gators are ranked 8th in the 5A poll, while Zachary is number following an impressive win over John Curtis.

LSU officials say they are working on issues that spawned the massive traffic backup before and after Saturday’s game versus Southern. They say it was difficult to prepare for two fan bases from the same city coming onto campus at one time to watch the historic matchup, but, while you can still expect traffic, things should be better moving forward.
