The Matt McMahon era of LSU basketball tips off tonight against UMKC. The former Murray State coach inherited a program with only two returning players from last year’s tournament team. McMahon and his staff put together an impressive recruiting class of both transfers and incoming freshmen in a short time in hopes of avoiding a full rebuild. McMahon still has yet to name the starters for tonight but has emphasized the importance of guys earning their spots…:

The LSU football team climbed three spots to No. 7 in the latest College Football Playoff Rankings. The Tigers are coming off a thrilling 32-31 overtime win over Alabama on Saturday in Tiger Stadium. ESPN says that game was watched by 7.6 million viewers.

LA Tech beat Middle Tennessee 40-24 this week to improve to 3-6 on the season. Bulldogs quarterback Parker McNeil had an effective outing in his return from injury with 285 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. McNeil has struggled with injuries this season, but Head Coach Sonny Cumbie says he’s one of the toughest players he’s ever coached…:

The Bulldogs will travel to San Antonio Saturday to face defending Conference USA Champs, UTSA.

The New Orleans Pelicans are back in action tonight taking on The Bulls on the road. The Pels are 5-5 after 10 games.

The Saints fell to 3-6 on the season yesterday after a 27-13 loss at home to the Ravens. The Saints defense allowed over 300 yards to Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense almost 200 of which was on the ground. The defense struggled to contain Jackson who rushed for 82 yards of his own, and Head Coach Dennis Allen says his athleticism helped open opportunities for his entire team…

LSU’s win Saturday was the Tigers’ first home victory over Alabama since 2010 and kept the Tiger’s SEC Championship and playoff hopes alive. Now 5-1 in SEC play, the Tigers are in the driver’s seat to win the SEC West with just three games remaining, but LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly says that this win isn’t the biggest of his career…

Voting concludes today on the UNO campus as the university is asking students if they would want to raise student fees in order to start a football program, two new women’s sports, golf and soccer, a marching band, and additional extra activities. Fees would be raised to $300 a semester for part-time and $400 a semester for full-time students. If the student experience fee passes, a stadium would be built with private funds and hopes to play games in the Southland Conference in 2025. UNO’s enrollment has fallen from 17-thousand pre-Katrina to over seven thousand this year. Athletic Director Tim Duncan says football could bring more students to the school…

The Pelicans fell to 5-5 last night after a 122-129 loss to the Pacers. All-Stars Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson scored 29 and 26 points apiece, but veteran guard CJ McCollum struggled shooting 3 for 11 from the field. The Pels return to action tomorrow night in Chicago.

The Saints offense struggled mightily last night as the Black and Gold fell to the Baltimore Ravens 27-13. New Orleans didn’t score a touchdown until the fourth quarter and the game was decided by then. Quarterback Andy Dalton threw for 210 yards and a touchdown. It was also a bad night for the defense as they had a hard time trying to contain Baltimore Quarterback and former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, who threw for 133 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another 82 yards. Also the Ravens were 9 of 15 on third down. New Orleans is now 3-and-6 and at Pittsburgh on Sunday.

After beating Alabama, the Tigers now must focus on getting a win at Arkansas. The forecast calls for a high in the mid-40s in Fayetteville on Saturday. Brian Kelly says his team is prepared for the early kick-off and the cold weather…

At one-time, Arkansas was ranked as high as 10th in the country by the Associated Press. The Razorbacks defense has faltered, allowing 37 touchdowns, which ranks 108th in the F-B-S. They are 5-4 on the season after losing to Liberty last Saturday at home.

Last night the college basketball season tipped off, The Ragin Cajuns routed Centenary 106-55. Jordan Brown had 26 points and nine rebounds. Texas A-and-M took down ULM 87-54. Louisiana Tech defeated Mississippi college 78-61. Texas Tech over Northwestern State 73-49 and Nicholls lost to Arizona 117 to 75.

A rough performance by the Saints on Monday Night Football last night as New Orleans lost to the Baltimore Ravens 27-13. The offense did not find the end zone until the fourth quarter and they were held to 243 total yards. The Saints were just three for 11 on third down and running back Alvin Kamara was held to 30 yards rushing. Coach Dennis Allen says it was a bad day at the office…

The Pelicans lost in Indianapolis last night as the Pacers defeated New Orleans 129 to 122 despite a 26 point performance from Zion Williamson. Indiana was led by center Myles Turner who had 37 points and 12 boards.

Three LSU players earned SEC Player of the Week honors for their performance in the OT win over Alabama. Quarterback Jayden Daniels earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors, tight end Mason Taylor was named freshman of the week and linebacker Harold Perkins picked up defensive player of the week honors. Perkins had a career-high eight tackles and a sack. Kelly says the true freshman is impressive

Louisiana Tech defensive back Myles Brooks was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week. He intercepted two passes in the 40-24 win over Middle Tennessee. Tech is at first-place UTSA this Saturday.

Tonight the New Orleans Saints host the Baltimore Ravens. A win for the Black and Gold and they’ll be tied for first place in the NFC South with a four and five record.

The Pelicans are also in action tonight as they visit the Indiana Pacers. New Orleans is coming off an overtime loss in Atlanta. The Pels are now 0-3 in overtime games, 5-and-4 overall. The Pacers are 4-and-5.

The Ragin Cajuns suffered a gut-punching defeat at the hands of the Troy Trojans on Saturday as Troy scored 16 points in the fourth quarter to beat U-L Lafayette 23-17. Coach Michael Desomeaux’s team falls to 4-and-5 on the season…

U-L Lafayette’s next game is Thursday when they host Georgia Southern.

What a come back by ULM on Saturday! The Warhawks rallied from 21-point deficit in the first quarter to beat Texas State 31-30. Chandler Rogers threw for 310 yards and Tyrone Howell caught 12 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns. ULM is now 3-and-6 and will visit Georgia State this Saturday.

A new college basketball season tips off today. ULM is at Texas A-and-M, the Cajuns host Centenary and Louisiana Tech hosts Mississippi College.

Saturday night’s game in Death Valley will go down as one of the greatest games ever played in Tiger Stadium as LSU defeated Alabama in overtime 32-31. Every time the Crimson Tide scored, LSU had an answer, and it happened in front of 102-thousand fans. LSU fans rushed the field again after the win and the SEC has fined the school another 250-thousand dollars. LSU was also fined 250-thousand dollars after students came onto the field following the win against Ole Miss.

The Tigers are now ranked seventh in the AP poll and will travel to Arkansas for an 11 AM kick-off this Saturday in Fayetteville. Alabama dropped four spots in the AP poll to tenth.
After suffering back-to-back overtime losses, Louisiana Tech trounced Middle Tennessee 40-24 on Saturday in Ruston. Junior defensive back Myles Brooks had two interceptions and says the team was determined to win this one…

For the first time since 1990, Ruston High School defeated West Monroe in football as the Bearkats beat the Rebels 35-17. St. Thomas More won another district title as the Cougars downed Lafayette Christian 41-34. Northwood Shreveport knocked off North Desoto 20-19. The playoffs begin next week.

Besides the LSU Bama game, there are other football games in the state today, in Lincoln Parish as Louisiana Tech hosts Middle Tennessee and Grambling faces Arkansas PIne-Bluff.

Can’t Guard Mike has turned into Can’t Stay on the Field. The Saints are putting wide receiver Michael Thomas on injured reserve and it’s likely he’ll miss the rest of the season as he needs surgery on a dislocated toe. Thomas got hurt in week 3 and if he doesn’t play again this season that means he’ll only have played ten games over the last three seasons.

There is some good injury news for the Saints as there’s a chance wide receiver Jarvis Landry could return Monday. He has not played since week four and Quarterback Andy Dalton says he’s feeling more comfortable with the offense…
