Reese still got a double-double, 20 points and 12 rebounds and Alexis Morris came off the bench to score a season-high 24 points. LSU looks to stay perfect on the season when they host Auburn on Sunday.

In men’s college basketball last night, the Ragin Cajuns won their third straight as they defeated ULM 86-73 in Monroe. Southeastern Louisiana is now tied for first place in the Southland after rallying to beat Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi 85-82 in overtime. Freshman guard Jalen Hampton had 22 points as Northwestern State dribbled past McNeese 89-75. Lamar hit a three-pointer with one second left as the Cardinals stunned Nicholls 69-66.

The fifth ranked LSU women’s basketball team improved to 17-0 last night with a 20-point win at Missouri, 77-57. The Lady Tigers hit ten-three-pointers, five of them came from Alexis Morris, who scored a season-high 24 points. Angel Reese had her 17th double-double, 20 points and 12 boards.

The Ragin Cajuns raced out to a 21-4 lead and went on to beat ULM 86-73 in Monroe. U-L Lafayette was led by Jordan Brown who had 21 points, Langston Powell had 19 points for the Warhawks. Both teams are 3-and-2 in the Sun Belt.

The Lafayette native led St. Thomas Moore to a state championship in 2020 and appeared in two games for the Tigers this season but was still third on the depth chart behind Jayden Daniels and Garret Nussmeier.  Tiger Rag Assistant Editor William Weathers says that Daniels’ decision to return delayed Howard’s chance to get real playing time…

There are five NFL teams searching for a new head coach and Saints analyst Nick Underhill believes all five of them have contacted former Saints coach Sean Payton. Of the five, the Saints have allowed the Broncos, Cardinals, and Texans to meet with Payton. The NFL is not allowing any interviews until the 17th,  Payton’s first interview has been scheduled with the Broncos for next Tuesday. New Orleans still owns the rights to Payton’s contract, meaning if he were to seek a new team, the Saints have said they’d require at least first-round pick compensation.

ULM hosts the Ragin’ Cajuns tonight as both teams look for a crucial Sun-Belt win. The 12-4 Cajuns were preseason favorites to win the conference but lost their first two Sun-Belt games on the road before bouncing back to win their last two. ULL coach Bob Marlin wants to keep his team’s momentum

The Lafayette native guided St. Thomas More to a state championship in 2020 and this past season appeared in two games for the Tigers. His father, Jamie Howard, played for the Tigers in the 1990s and his late mother was also a graduate of LSU.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Broncos will interview former Saints Coach Sean Payton on Tuesday in Los Angeles as they look to fill their head coaching vacancy. The Houston Texans and the Arizona Cardinals have also received permission to talk to Payton who is still under contract with the Saints.

The short-handed Pelicans could not keep up with the Boston Celtics last night as New Orleans lost 125 to 114. The Celtics were led by Jalen Brown who had 41 points and Jayson Tatum had 31 points. New Orleans was without Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Herb Jones.

Louisiana Tech rallied back from an 18-point deficit only to lose in the final seconds to North Texas 67-65. Isaiah Crawford had 25 points in a losing effort.

Tonight, ULM hosts the Ragin Cajuns. It’s the 2,000th game in Warhawks men’s basketball history. ULM is 3-and-1 in the Sun Belt and Coach Keith Richard says the team has found its identity…

LSU men’s basketball is on a three-game losing streak after failing to defend its home floor in a 67-56 loss to Florida. The Tigers shot a season-low 32-percent from the floor and turned it over 16 times, which led to 23 points for the Gators. Coach Matt McMahon not happy with the turnovers…

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans have received permission from the Saints to interview Sean Payton, who remains under contract with the Black and Gold. The Denver Broncos are also set to talk to Payton about their head coaching vacancy. A franchise that wants to hire Payton has to work out a trade with the Saints in order to get him.

The LSU gymnastics team is increasing their security after a large group of teenage boys swarmed to see 20-year-old junior and social media star Olivia Dunne at a meet in Utah Friday night. Gymnastics coach Jay Clark fears the situation will only get worse after a reporter covering the competition posted a video of the incident.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is stocking 17 sites across the state with adult-size Rainbow Trout as part of the department’s Get Out & Fish Program. LSU football finishes the 2022 season ranked 16th in the A-P Poll. Tulane is ranked ninth. Florida State is ranked 11th. The Tigers and Seminoles kick-off the 2023 campaign in Orlando during Labor Day Weekend.

Louisiana Tech has released its 2023 schedule. The Bulldogs will kick-off the season with a week zero matchup against FIU on August 26th at Joe Aillet Stadium. The non-conference games are against SMU, Northwestern State, North Texas and Nebraska on September 23rd.

The 2022 college football season has officially come to a close after Georgia’s 65-7 national championship victory over TCU. The final AP Poll of the 2022 season was released, and LSU finished ranked 16th in the nation. Tulane moved up 5 spots to finish their season ranked 9th overall.

The Saints season is officially over, and players will be watching the playoffs at home this year after a 7-10 season. The Saints miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season and have their first losing season since 2016. New Orleans lost their 10th overall pick in this year’s draft in a trade to the Eagles, but Head Coach Dennis Allen says the team is looking to get back to contending next year…

The Pelicans snapped a two-game losing streak last night in a 132-112 win over the Wizards. After a tight first quarter, New Orleans pulled away in the second, outscoring the Wizards 33-19. The Pels were still without stars Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, but guard CJ McCollum led the team with 34 points. The win marks the first time the Pelicans have won in Washington D.C. since 2011. New Orleans returns to action tomorrow night in Boston against the league-leading Celtics.

Despite the team’s 7-and-10 finish to the 2022 campaign, Saints Coach Dennis Allen says he plans to be back next season. Allen says he understands 7-and-10 is not where they want to be, but they are not as far off as some might think. But Allen says no decisions have been made on offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael or anyone else on the staff…

Allen says no decisions have also been made on wide receiver Michael Thomas’ future. The Saints have reworked his contract to make it easier financially to release the former All pro wide out. He’s only played in 12 games over the last three seasons and appeared in three games in 2022.

The Pelicans won in Washington D-C last night for the first time since 2011 as New Orleans defeated the Wizards 132 to 112 at Capital One arena. C-J McCollum looked fresh after sitting out Saturday’s loss at Dallas. McCollum had 34 points as the Pels improved to 8-and-11 on the road. They are at Boston tomorrow.
