The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans have received permission from the Saints to interview Sean Payton, who remains under contract with the Black and Gold. The Denver Broncos are also set to talk to Payton about their head coaching vacancy. A franchise that wants to hire Payton has to work out a trade with the Saints in order to get him.

The LSU gymnastics team is increasing their security after a large group of teenage boys swarmed to see 20-year-old junior and social media star Olivia Dunne at a meet in Utah Friday night. Gymnastics coach Jay Clark fears the situation will only get worse after a reporter covering the competition posted a video of the incident.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is stocking 17 sites across the state with adult-size Rainbow Trout as part of the department’s Get Out & Fish Program. LSU football finishes the 2022 season ranked 16th in the A-P Poll. Tulane is ranked ninth. Florida State is ranked 11th. The Tigers and Seminoles kick-off the 2023 campaign in Orlando during Labor Day Weekend.

Louisiana Tech has released its 2023 schedule. The Bulldogs will kick-off the season with a week zero matchup against FIU on August 26th at Joe Aillet Stadium. The non-conference games are against SMU, Northwestern State, North Texas and Nebraska on September 23rd.

The 2022 college football season has officially come to a close after Georgia’s 65-7 national championship victory over TCU. The final AP Poll of the 2022 season was released, and LSU finished ranked 16th in the nation. Tulane moved up 5 spots to finish their season ranked 9th overall.

The Saints season is officially over, and players will be watching the playoffs at home this year after a 7-10 season. The Saints miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season and have their first losing season since 2016. New Orleans lost their 10th overall pick in this year’s draft in a trade to the Eagles, but Head Coach Dennis Allen says the team is looking to get back to contending next year…

The Pelicans snapped a two-game losing streak last night in a 132-112 win over the Wizards. After a tight first quarter, New Orleans pulled away in the second, outscoring the Wizards 33-19. The Pels were still without stars Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, but guard CJ McCollum led the team with 34 points. The win marks the first time the Pelicans have won in Washington D.C. since 2011. New Orleans returns to action tomorrow night in Boston against the league-leading Celtics.

Despite the team’s 7-and-10 finish to the 2022 campaign, Saints Coach Dennis Allen says he plans to be back next season. Allen says he understands 7-and-10 is not where they want to be, but they are not as far off as some might think. But Allen says no decisions have been made on offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael or anyone else on the staff…

Allen says no decisions have also been made on wide receiver Michael Thomas’ future. The Saints have reworked his contract to make it easier financially to release the former All pro wide out. He’s only played in 12 games over the last three seasons and appeared in three games in 2022.

LSU needs help at the cornerback position and it looks like they are getting it from the transfer portal. The Tigers have received a commitment from Darian “Duce” Chestnut, who started the last two seasons at Syracuse. The former three-star recruit from New Jersey recorded 83 tackles and four interceptions in his two seasons for the Orange and has two more years of eligibility left.

Also former four-star recruit J-K Johnson also plans to play for the Tigers after playing every game this past season for Ohio State. He also started five games for the Buckeyes and allowed just 12 receptions according to Pro Football Focus.

In basketball, the Pelicans are in Washington looking to snap a two-game losing streak as they face Wizards. C-J McCollum and Larry Nance Junior did not play in the team’s loss at Dallas on Saturday, but they are expected to play tonight.

And tonight’s the College Football Playoff national championship game between Georgia and TCU.

The seventh ranked LSU women’s basketball team improved to 16-0 yesterday, the school’s best start to a season, by beating Kentucky 67-48 at Rupp Arena in Lexington. LSU has now won 24 straight regular season games dating back to last year.

C-J McCollum had 28 points to lead New Orleans and Naji (Nah-G) Marshall had a career high 23 points and nine rebounds. The Nets got 33 points from Kevin Durant. The Pels begin a five-game road trip tonight in Dallas.

LSU is in Bryan-College Station today to take on Texas A-and-M. The Tigers have won ten straight over the Aggies. LSU is 1-1 in SEC play, A-and-M is 1-0. Tip time is 5 PM.

LSU offensive lineman Anthony Bradford has declared for the NFL draft. The former four-star recruit out of Michigan started the final games of this season. He’s six-foot-five, 345 pounds. Despite Bradford’s departure, LSU is still expected to return a majority of its starting offensive line next season.

The Saints will look to close out the regular season on a four-game winning streak when they host Carolina tomorrow. Offensive guard Andrus Peat and Paulson Adebo (Uh-dee-bo) have been ruled out because of injuries. Kick-off is at noon.

Back to college basketball, here are some other games on the schedule today…ULM, who is 3-and-0 in the Sun Belt, hosts Southern Miss, the Cajuns take on Georgia State, La Tech hosts UTEP and Nicholls is at Northwestern State.
