Over 15,000 fans packed the P-Mac last night to watch the third-ranked Lady Tigers remain undefeated last night. The LSU women’s basketball team defeated Tennessee 76-68 in front of the largest recorded crowd at the P-MAC since the 2005 renovation. Coach Kim Mulkey said the atmosphere was electric.

The Lady Tigers improve to 21-0 on the season. They’ll host Georgia Thursday.

The Pelicans will visit the Nuggets tonight. Denver leads the Western Conference while the Pelicans are the coldest team in the NBA. They’ve gone 3-13 since early January and lost their last 8 straight even after the return of forward Brandon Ingram. New Orleans sits at 8th in the west after being first earlier this season and will look to get back on track tonight. Ingram and CJ McCollum will make their return tonight while rookie guard Dyson Daniels remains out. Tip-off is at 9:00.

The top-ranked LSU baseball team has started full-squad practices. With one of the most loaded rosters in the nation, expectations are high for the tigers this year. LSU had the top-ranked recruiting and transfer classes in the country this offseason, and one of the big additions is third baseman Tommy White. White hit 27 home runs last season with NC State and says LSU could have a high-powered offense this year…

Pelicans sophomores Trey Murphy and Jose Alvarado were named 2023 Jordan Rising Stars for NBA All-Star weekend. A pool of 28 rookies, sophomores, and G-League players is selected to participate in a three-game mini-tournament. Murphy, who was drafted 17th overall last year, was also invited to participate in the NBA Dunk Contest. Murphy is one of the best young shooters in the league, shooting almost 40% from deep, but has emerged as one of the NBA’s most electric dunkers this season. Zion Williamson was also named an All-Star Starter this year but may not be able to participate due to injury.

Four LSU Tigers have been named to the Baseball America’s preseason All-Americans teams. Center fielder Dylan Crews and right-hander and utility player Paul Skenes are first-team selections. First baseman Tre Morgan and third baseman Tommy White are second team selections.

The expectation is that LSU will win its first national championship since 2009. Center fielder Dylan Crews says what others are expecting from this team is not added pressure…

Former Saints coach Sean Payton says we should know a lot more this week on whether he’ll return to coaching. The Texans, Cardinals and the Broncos are the three teams that have expressed interest in Payton.

The Pelicans losing streak is up to eight eight games after losing to Milwaukee 135 to 110 last night. New Orleans played without C-J McCollum and Brandon Ingram. The Pels have dropped to eighth place in the Western Conference and they’ll visit Denver on Tuesday. The Nuggets have the best record in the West.

Tonight in the Cajundome, the Ragin Cajuns look to extend their winning streak to eight games as they host Georgia Southern, who is 5-and-4 in the Sun Belt. U-L Lafayette is tied for first in the conference with Southern Miss.

ULM is one game back and the Warhawks wrap up a four-game road trip by visiting James Madison. Tip off is at 4 PM.

La Tech is at UTSA, who is 1-and-10 in Conference USA.

Ryan Nielson who served as a co-defensive coordinator for the Saints has left the Black and Gold for divisional rival the Atlanta Falcons to be the Dirty Birds new defensive coordinator. Nielsen has been with the Saints for the last six seasons. He started as the team’s defensive line coach in 2017.

LSU Heisman-winning quarterback Joe Burrow and the Bengals visit the Chiefs in the AFC Championship tomorrow. The two teams met earlier this year in a 27-24 Cincinnati win. Burrow says the team needs to be prepared to face a familiar opponent…

The LHSAA Convention ended in Baton Rouge today with a decision by high school principals to hold another meeting in June to discuss the definititon of select and non -select schools. The playoff formats for basketball, baseball and softball will go on as planned, which means for basketball there will be five divisions for select schools and five for non-select schools.

The Pelicans Zion Williamson has been named a starter in the NBA All-Star game even though he has not played since January second because of a right hamstring injury. Williamson is expected to be evaluated again on February 7th, 12 days before the All-Star Game in Salt Lake City. The Pels will try to snap a six-game losing streak tomorrow against Washington.

LSU men’s basketball will try to snap a seven game losing streak tomorrow when they host Texas Tech, while the Ragin Cajuns go after their eighth straight win as they host Georgia Southern at 7 PM in the Cajundome.

U-L Lafayette is tied for first place in the Sun Belt with Southern Miss. ULM is one game back after beating Marshall 86-82 in double overtime. Jamari Blackmon had a big game with 35 points.

Scoring points has been a problem for the LSU Tigers. They only had 40 in a loss at Arkansas on Tuesday. First-year coach Matt McMahon knew their would be some growing pains…

Louisiana Tech will visit UAB tonight. The Bulldogs are 11-9 at the halfway point on the season and both teams are 4-5 in a four-way tie for fifth in the Conference USA. LA Tech lost to UAB earlier this month in Ruston 81-74, giving up 21 rebounds in the meeting. Coach Talvin Hester says they can do better…

ULM has named John Hartwell as the new Director of Athletics. Hartwell served as A-D at Utah State and Troy University, and the hiring shows the rest of the Sun-Belt ULM is serious about competing. The hiring is subject to approval by the University Of Louisiana System Board of Directors at its next meeting.

The Carolina Panthers announced they will be hiring former Colts Head Coach Frank Reich to fill their head coaching vacancy. Carolina had been one of the teams to interview former Saints coach Sean Payton, but ultimately the decision came down to Reich and interim head coach Steve Wilks. Reich, who was fired from the Colts in November of last year, was the starting quarterback for the first game in Panthers history and is now the franchise’s first ever offensive-minded head coach.

Brandon Ingram shook off some rust in the Pelican’s 111-102 loss to the Timberwolves last night. New Orleans led for much of the first half but were outscored by 18 points in the third. Ingram, who hasn’t played since November, went 4 of 18 from the floor on his way to a 13-point performance. Coach Willie Green said the poor performance is to be expected as B-I gets back into game shape and isn’t worried going forward. The Pels have now lost 11 of their last 14 games, and frustrations boiled over for Coach Green who was ejected for the first time in his coaching career with two technical fouls.
