The Saints are 3-and-2, tied with Atlanta for second place in the NFC South. Tampa Bay had Sunday off and they lead the division with a 3-and-1 mark. New Orleans is at two and three Houston this Sunday. The Falcons kicked a game winning field on the final play to beat the Texans yesterday.

After beating Missouri 49-39 on Saturday night, LSU moved up one spot to number 22 in the latest A-P poll. It didn’t look good early on for the Bayou Bengals as they trailed 22-7, but they played better in the second half, allowing just two touchdowns. Elsewhere…the Ragin Cajuns rallied from a nine-point deficit to beat Texas State 34-30 on Saturday. South Alabama thumped ULM 55-7. Nicholls is 2-0 in the Southland. Grambling and Southern both lost on Saturday and Louisiana Tech is at Middle Tennessee tomorrow night.

U-L-M hosts South Alabama on Saturday night. The Warhawks are looking to bounce back after a walk off loss to Appalachian state. This is the fifth meeting between the two teams in Malone Stadium, and ULM has won the last four meetings.

Louisiana Tech lost last Thursday night 35-28 to Western Kentucky and have a will play Middle Tennessee on Tuesday.

LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese has two more years of eligibility left, but Reese says she’s treating this season as her last. The national champs tip off the season on November sixth against Colorado in Las Vegas.

Louisiana Tech found themselves down 35-7 at halftime to Western Kentucky last the night. The Bulldogs rallied in the second half but came up short and lost to the Hilltoppers 35-28. Tech had trouble containing Malachi Corley who had eight catches for 207 yards and three touchdowns.

There’s more college football in north Louisiana tomorrow as ULM hosts South Alabama. Both teams are 0-1 in the Sun Belt. The Warhawks suffered a heart breaking loss to Appalachian State last week.

Big game for the Ragin Cajuns tomorrow as U-L Lafayette hosts Texas State. The Bobcats are 5-and-1 and led by former LSU Quarterback T-J Finley who has thrown ten touchdown passes and has just one interception.

After winning in Lake Charles last Saturday, Nicholls will host Houston Christian at 3 PM. McNeese is at Texas A-and-M Commerce, Southeastern Louisiana visits UIW and Northwestern state travels to Lamar.

Grambling looks to go 3-0 in the SWAC as they visit Alcorn state.

Brooks’ speech and ability to communicate have been impacted by the extensive surgery to remove the tumor that was located on the cerebellum and brainstem.

LSU announced today safety Greg Brooks has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer called medulloblastoma. Brooks underwent surgery last month to remove a large tumor after complaining about dizzy spells. Doctors say the surgery was successful in removing the tumor and there is no evidence the cancer spread. But Brooks faces months of intensive rehabilitation. To help with his medical costs the Tiger Athletic Foundation has launched the Greg Brooks Victory Fund.

Six Saints players did not practice today as the team is getting ready to visit the New England Patriots on Sunday. Defensive tackle Bryan Bresee missed the practice because of an illness. Cornerback Lonnie Johnson has a hamstring injury and Andrus Peat is suffering from a concussion. Cesar Ruiz was a full participant for a first time since suffering a concussion against the Packers and cornerback Paulson Adebo, who has missed the last two weeks was limited.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association is keeping the playoff format they had last year after high school principals voted not to change the definition of a select school. Todd Black is the co-host of the Louisiana Prep Scoreboard Show and believes the vote was correct and that any school that takes students out of their traditional attendance zones should be considered select…

So football postseason will once again have eight brackets, four select and four nonselect. There will be ten playoff brackets in basketball, baseball and softball and split equally between select and nonselect schools.

The Saints return to practice today as they get for Sunday’s game at New England. Coach Dennis Allen is expecting starters Cesar Ruiz and Paulson Adebo back from injuries.

385 high school principals showed up in Baton Rouge today and 68-percent of them voted to keep the definition of a select school as it was used last year. Nine public schools upset they were shifted from non-select to select filed a lawsuit seeking a vote on the issue. Todd Black, co-host of the Louisiana Prep Scoreboard Show, says it’s likely the nine schools who were upset will drop their legal challenge…

Kelly says one major reason why LSU’s defense has struggled is the number of young players on the field…

At 1 PM, high school principals will hold a special meeting in Baton Rouge to vote on the definition of a select school. A yes vote would keep the select definition the LHSAA used last year that resulted in several public schools being defined as select schools, which prompted a lawsuit.

Louisiana Tech’s Smoke Harris has been named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week. Harris had a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown in Friday night’s 24-10 win over UTEP. Tech hosts Western Kentucky on Thursday.

Nicholls Safety Tyler Morton was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Morton had an interception and a forced fumble in the Colonels 31 to 10 win at McNeese to open Southland play. Nicholls hosts Houston Christian and McNeese is at Texas A-and-M Commerce.

The Major League Baseball playoffs start today…former LSU pitcher Kevin Gausman gets the start as the Blue Jays begin a best of three series at Minnesota.
