The SEC portion of the schedule for the LSU men’s basketball team was released today. The midway point of the league schedule looks particularly tough….at Alabama on January 27th, home to Arkansas on February third, at Tennessee on February seventh and home to Bama on February 10th.

Saints’ rookie quarterback Jake Haener has been suspended six games following an announcement from the league Wednesday he violated the performance enhancing drug policy. The 4th round pick out of Fresno State will be eligible to return to the Saints’ active roster on October 16th. Haener wasn’t likely to see much playing time this season slotted behind Carr, Jameis Winston and possibly Taysom Hill on the depth chart.

Bengals Quarterback Joe Burrow says he’s on track to play in Sunday’s opener at Cleveland after a calf injury sidelined him for most of the preseason.

LSU Women’s Basketball Coach Kim Mulkey has reportedly agreed to a 10-year, $32 million dollar contract extension that will make her the highest paid coach in women’s basketball. The deal is pending final approval from the LSU Board of Supervisors which meets Friday. Mulkey has yet to see a win for her Tigers over South Carolina. They’ll take a third shot on January 25th as the SEC released next season’s schedule Wednesday afternoon.

LSU Coach Brian Kelly is “giddy” about the return of defensive tackle Maason Smith on Saturday night when the Tigers host Grambling. Smith was suspended for the season opener for getting paid for autographs before NIL took effect. Kelly says Smith hasn’t played in over a year:

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow said today he plans to play in week one despite missing nearly the entire preseason with a calf injury.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have shut down former LSU pitcher Paul Skenes for the rest of 2023 as the major league team says they will now get him ready for the 2024 season.

The LSU women’s basketball SEC Schedule is out. The Lady Tigers will host South Carolina on January 25th.

After getting beat 45-24 on Sunday night in Orlando, Coach Brian Kelly says they are re-assessing everything and that includes the use of linebacker Harold Perkins. Perkins was an all-American as an outside linebacker last year, but he’s playing middle linebacker this season and only had five sacks on Sunday. Kelly says they want to do what’s best for Perkins and the team….

Up and coming Pelicans guard Trey Murphy reportedly suffered a meniscus injury to his left knee during a workout and will undergo further testing to see if he’ll need surgery. Murphy averaged 15 points and four rebounds a game last year and made 41-percent of his three-point shots. Murphy’s injury could mean more playing time for first round pick Jordan Hawkins.

LSU hosts Grambling in Tiger Stadium this Saturday night at 6:30.

An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting that took place at the Brusly-Port Allen high school football game on Friday night. The West Baton Rouge Parish Sherriff’s Office says 18-year-old Jarrettin Jackson the Second is charged with second degree murder and attempted second degree murder. Shot and killed in the incident was 16-year-old Ja’Kobe Queen only a few feet away from a concession stand.

Game week has arrived for the Saints as they will host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. New Orleans only has two home games in the first six weeks of the season, so getting a win on Sunday is important. Coach Dennis Allen…:

The Titans went 7-and-10 last season. They started 7-3 but finished the season on a seven-game losing streak. The game on Sunday kicks off at noon.

Cornerback Marshon Lattimore and offensive lineman Landon Young were back on the practice field Monday. Lattimore tweaked his knee during joint practices with the Chargers, leaving the August 18th practice early. Coach Dennis Allen called it “precautionary” at the time.

ULM rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Army 17-13 on Saturday. Down 13-3 in the fourth quarter, Coach Terry Bowden turned to sophomore quarterback Hunter Herring who threw the winning touchdown pass. Bowden says Herring was what the Warhawks needed…

Herring was 4-of-9 for 22 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 13 yards. Senior Jiya Wright started and was 10-of-21 for 70 yards and two interceptions.

Ben Wooldridge threw three touchdowns passes and ran for another as the Ragin Cajuns defeated Northwestern State 38-13.

24th ranked Tulane trounced South Alabama 37-17 as Michael Pratt threw four touchdown passes.

Louisiana Tech had a rough first half in Dallas and lost to SMU 38-14.
