LSU ranked 105th in the nation in total defense giving up 417 yards a game. LSU also allowed 28 points a contest, third worst in the SEC.

Despite an eight and eight record, the Saints playoff hopes are alive. For New Orleans to win the NFC South, they will have to beat Atlanta and Carolina needs to defeat the Buccaneers. A wild card berth for the Saints can occur if they win on Sunday and the Cardinals beat the Seahawks and the Bears defeat Green Bay. Coach Dennis Allen says their focus needs to be on Atlanta…

The Saints have reportedly restructured the contract of cornerback Marshon Lattimore to save a reported eleven million dollars towards the 2024 salary cap. Lattimore hasn’t played since week ten because of an ankle injury.

In basketball…the Pelicans try to win their fourth in a row as they visit Minnesota tonight. Louisiana Tech has its final non-conference game as its Dallas Christian, who is 3-and-10 on the year. Grambling State women’s basketball defated College of Biblical Studies 159 to 18. The 141 points is the biggest margin of victory in Division one women’s basketball history.

LSU football coach Brian Kelly has fired most of his defensive coaches, including defensive coordinator Matt House, after a historically bad season on defense. The Tigers were ranked among the worst in the country in several categories, including total defense where they were ranked 105th in the nation for giving up 417 yards a game. LSU also allowed 28 points a game, third worst in the SEC.

Defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey and safeties coach Kerry Cooks, cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples were also let go today.

The Pelicans won their third straight last night as they defeated Brooklyn 112 to 85 in the Smoothie King Center. The 85 points were fewest allowed by an opponent this season. New Orleans went 3-and-2 on the homestand, they are 20-14 overall and will visit the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight. The Wolves have the best record in the West at 24-8 and the Pels are in sixth place in the West.

The Pelicans won their third straight last night as they blew out Brooklyn 112 to 85. Seven players scored in double figures led by C-J McCollum who had 16 points. He made four three-pointers. Herb Jones had 14 points and Jose Alvardo had 13 points. The Pels are at Minnesota tonight.

The Saints will conclude the regular season by hosting the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. New Orleans needs to win and they need some help from other teams to get in the postseason. The Dirty Birds beat the Saints 24-15 in Atlanta on Thanksgiving weekend. Atlanta rushed for 228 yards in that game. Coach Dennis Allen says they can’t let the Falcons run all over them…

The nation’s number one running back in the country for the Class of 2025, Harlem Berry from St. Martin’s High School in New Orleans, announces his commitment today. It’s expected to be LSU.

Today he announced he’s forgoing his final year and entering the NFL draft. And offensive tackle Lance Heard has entered the transfer portal as he looks to move on after one season at LSU.

The Pelicans wrap up a five-game homestand tonight by hosting Brooklyn. New Orleans is 2-and-2 during this five game homestand.

The 2023 season is officially in the books for the LSU Tigers as they defeated Wisconsin 35-31 in the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa. Garrett Nussmeier was named the game’s MVP as he led the Tigers back from two 14-point deficits. In his first collegiate start, Nussmeier threw for 395 yards, three TDs, and one interception. He capped off the day with an eight-play, 98-yard drive for the winning touchdown with just over three minutes left.

LSU’s defense struggled giving up 508 yards, but back-to-back sacks on the Badgers final drive sealed the victory. Now we wait to see if Coach Brian Kelly makes any changes with the defensive coaches on his staff. He also needs to name a new offensive coordinator.

The matchup for the college football national championship game is set as Michigan will play Washington on Monday night in Houston. The Wolverines defeated Alabama in overtime in the Rose Bowl and last night in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Washington outscored Texas 37-31. Huskies quarterback Michael Penix threw for 430 yards and two scores…

LSU Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw for 395 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Tigers to a 35-31 win over Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa. LSU also got a big commitment from a recruit on New Year’s Day as five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley from Acadiana flipped his verbal pledge from Texas A-and-M to LSU.

It will be Michigan and Washington in the college football national championship game. The Wolverines defeated Alabama in overtime 27-20, while the Huskies held on for a 37-31 win over Texas. The Saints will host Atlanta this Sunday and New Orleans still has a chance to make the playoffs. They can win the division if they beat the Falcons and Tampa Bay loses to Carolina. A wild card berth is also possible if the Saints win Sunday and the Bears beat the Packers in Green Bay and the Cardinals take down the Seahawks in Phoenix.

The LSU Tigers completed their mission of achieving a ten-win season as LSU rallied in the final minutes to beat Wisconsin 35-31 in the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa.

Garrett Nussmeier was named the game’s MVP. In his first collegiate start, Nussmeier threw for 395 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Nussmeier led LSU on an eight-play, 98-yards drive for the winning touchdown with just over three minutes left.

Two of Nussmeier’s three touchdown passes went to Brian Thomas, who finished with eight catches for 98 yards.

Malik Nabers played the first half and caught three passes for 23 yards and that was enough to set the all-time record at LSU for receiving yards.

The defense struggled giving up 508 yards, but back-to-back sacks on the Badgers final drive put the game away.
LSU wins ten games for a second consecutive season and for Coach Brian Kelly it’s his seventh straight ten win season.

Quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan will call the plays as he’ll audition to be the offensive coordinator for the Tigers in 2024.

The seventh-ranked LSU women’s basketball team ended 2023 on a 13-game winning streak as the Lady Tigers trounced Jacksonville 110 to 68 on Saturday. Angel Reese had 17 points and 20 rebounds. LSU will tip off SEC play on Thursday night at home against Missouri.

U-L Lafayette and ULM lost their Sun Belt openers on Saturday. Louisiana Tech lost its third straight on Saturday, falling to Grand Canyon 73-70. The Bulldogs host Dallas Christian College on Wednesday.

Will Wade and the McNeese Cowboys pulled off an impressive victory last night in Ann Arbor as the Pokes took down the Michigan Wolverines 87-76. It’s McNeese’s first win over a Big 10 opponent. Shahada Wells had 30 points and 10 rebounds. McNeese is now 11-2 as it gets ready for Southland play.

The LSU Tigers won easily over Northwestern State last night. Will Baker had 17 points as the LSU downed the Demons 96-55. LSU will open up SEC play a week from tonight against Texas A-and-M.

Sun Belt play begins today. The 7-and-5 Ragin Cajuns are at Marshall, who is 5-and-8, while the Warhawks are at Appalachian State. The Mountaineers are 9-3 while ULM is 4-6. Tip-off for that game is at noon.

The seventh-ranked Lady Tigers get one last tune-up before SEC play as LSU hosts Jacksonville at 7 PM.

The Pelicans continue their five-game homestand by hosting Lebron James and the Lakers tomorrow night.

LSU Coach Brian Kelly provided an update on freshman offensive tackle Lance Heard. Heard is not with the team in Tampa, the site of the Tigers bowl game. Kelly said today that Heard is looking at his role at LSU and evaluating it.

Kelly also said that quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan will be the one calling the plays and will be in the press box. Garrett Nussmeier will make his first collegiate start and is looking forward to playing a Wisconsin defense that only allowed 19 points a game in the regular season…

LSU men’s basketball returns from Christmas break to host the Northwestern State Demons tonight. It’s the final non-conference game for the Tigers as they will tip-off SEC play on January 6th at Texas A-and-M. The Demons are two and ten and this is there final non-conference game too.

McNeese is at Michigan tonight. The Pokes have won five in a row and they are 10-2 on the season. The Wolverines are 6-and-6.
