The Louisiana National Guard has mobilized over 500 soldiers to Florida in anticipation of major damage from Hurricane Milton.

Milton is the reason why gas prices increased overnight. AAA’s Don Redman says the statewide average for regular gasoline is up five-cents over yesterday to $2.82 a gallon. Redman says it shouldn’t be too long until gas prices come back down.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s office says an 86-year-old mother and her 64-year-old daughter were found dead in a home in the Hornbeck area yesterday afternoon. Sheriff Sam Craft says his deputies are doing what they can to apprehend the killer…

Craft stated that there is currently no perceived danger to the public, and encourages anyone with information to contact the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office.

LSU wide receiver Chris Hilton could make his season debut on Saturday night when the Tigers take on Ole Miss. Hilton suffered a bone bruise in preseason camp and has not played in a game this year. Coach Brian Kelly says the healing process has taken longer than they originally thought…

Drivers filling up their tanks today had quite the sticker shock. Don Redman with Triple-A Louisiana says gas prices spiked by about five cents overnight. Redman says you can blame the upcoming landfall of Hurricane Milton on the Florida Gulf Coast for this price spike.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Anacoco Police Department were called for a welfare check at a home in the Hornbeck area. Upon arrival, investigators discovered the bodies of two women, 86-year-old Ruth Holt, and 64-year-old Fredda Pierce.  Authorities say there is currently no perceived danger to the public. The investigation is ongoing, with detectives processing the scene for evidence. As of now, no additional information is available for release.

Over 500 Louisiana National Guard soldiers have been mobilized to support Florida in anticipation of Hurricane Milton, which is expected to make landfall near Tampa Bay late this evening. Two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and eight Guardsmen are in staging areas near Tallahassee. Lt. Col. Noel Collins says these helicopters are pre-positioned for rapid aerial search and rescue.

A ten-year-old Webster Parish girl who went viral for sleepwalking from home late one night last month disappeared from her home again Monday night. Pat Culverhouse with the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office says like the last time, the girl was found safe in the woods.

The girl was checked by medical personnel at the scene and appears to be okay. Culverhouse says it’s unclear what will happen now that this has happened twice.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s office has put a 24-year-old year-old man behind bars for raping a 17-year-old girl in June and a week later a 16-year-old. The crimes reportedly occurred at a home in Loranger, where one of the victims’ lives. The victims are friends. Dakota Anderson faces two counts of second-degree rape. He was a friend of one of the victims’ relatives.

Multiple media reports say an MRI shows that Saints quarterback Derek Carr has an oblique injury and will miss several weeks. Carr sustained the injury in the fourth quarter in Monday night’s loss to Kansas City. The Saints will either start 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener or 2024 fifth round pick Spencer Rattler at quarterback this Sunday against the Buccaneers.

GOHSEP is pitching to help states impacted by severe storms. Nearly 100 personnel have been deployed to Virginia and the Carolinas following Hurricane Helene, and another 77 are headed to Florida as Milton bears down on that state. Mike Steele with GOHSEP says states often turn to Louisiana to help out in the wake of severe weather.
