Louisiana Economic Development has launched a nationwide campaign to lure former residents back to Louisiana to explore new employment opportunities. LED Secretary Stephen Moret says “Come Home, Louisiana” is a campaign targeted at natives who are living out of state…:

Moret says they’re doing this because more jobs are opening in Louisiana than can be filled by current residents.

A trial date has been set for the lawsuit which challenges the controversial law in Louisiana which requires abortion doctors to have admitting privlages at nearby hospitals. The case is scheduled to be heard on March 30th of next year but until then a temporary restraining order barring the state from penalizing doctors who are applying to have admitting privileges remains in effect.

American Horror Story: Freak Show, the FX anthology series which was shot in New Orleans, debuts tonight. This season the show is about a traveling carny sideshow troupe of “mistakes of nature” as the script says. Louisiana Entertainment Executive Director Chris Stelly expects this one will be as sucessful as American Horror Story: The Coven which was also shot in The Big Easy…:

During the SEC Media teleconference this morning, LSU coach Les Miles says he’s still not ready to name a starting quarterback for the game at Florida this weekend. Miles says both Brandon Harris and Anthony Jennings are performing well in practice and he’ll name a starter later in the week.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s office says they’ve made a second arrest in the case of the man who was shot to death over his cell phone. The latest suspect is 17-year-old Jordan Harris of Baton Rouge. 18-year-old James Mills was arrested Monday also in the death of 24-year-old Hancy Sanchez. Investigators say both suspects admitted to planning to rob the victim for his phone.

The Wesleyan Media Project is calling the US Senate race in Louisiana the most negative campaign in the country. Over a two week period, the Wall Street Journal found that 0% of the ads run by Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu and Republican Congressman Bill Cassidy were positive.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office says several deputies were injured after being involved in crashes while in pursuit of a fleeing suspect. They say the officers were assisting the Jeanerette City Marshal’s Office in capturing 19-year-old Alvin Westly of Lafayette. Westley was arrested and taken into custody. Three Iberia Parish units were reportedly involved in crashes. The extent of the injuries to the deputies is unknown.

It looks like this year’s most popular movie and television show characters will be knocking on your doors looking for candy this year. A man charged in the 2012 death and dismemberment of Bourbon Street dancer, Jaren Lockhart, has completed his federal prison term and is awaiting extradition to Louisiana. 41-year-old Terry Speaks was released from a New York federal prison yesterday on an unrelated charge. In August, Speaks and his alleged accomplice, 30-year-old Margaret Sanchez were indicted on several charges, including second degree murder, in Lockhart’s death.

The Baton Rouge Police officer who drove his patrol car into an LSU lake has resigned. Byron Boudreaux was placed on administrative leave after the September 11th incident while the department investigated. It was determined that Boudreaux was not under the influence and did not break any criminal law. Authorities say now that Boudreaux has resigned, the investigation is over.

Hydrocodone based drugs like Lortabs are now a lot harder to get after they were moved into a more restrictive category by the federal government. Under the new rules, doctors will only be able to prescribe a 30-day supply with no automatic refills. LSU Health’s Emergency Medicine Chairman, Dr. Tom Arnold, says they are trying to get control of abuse of these drugs:

The man accused in the dismemberment case of the Bourbon Street strip club dancer has completed a federal prison term on an unrelated sex offense out of North Carolina. Officials say 41-year-old Terry Speaks is now in the Orange County, New York jail and is awaiting extradition to Louisiana where he’ll be tried in the brutal murder of Jaren Lockhart.

Several camp burglaries in the Chauvin/Cocodrie area have been reported recently and now a couple of arrests have been made by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office. Twenty-seven year-old Simon Pelligrin and 21 year-old Catelyn Trahan were each booked on 40 counts of simple burglary involving an estimated total of $40 thousand dollars worth of items from camps. Investigators say the suspects admitted to stealing to fund their heroin addiction.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are looking for the killer of a black bear in Concordia Parish. Spokesman Adam Einck says this animal was part of their Black Bear Restoration Program and its movements were being tracked with a radio collar. He says the bear was normally tracked in the Turnbull Island area…:
