When the cool front passed through the state yesterday, it made things chilly this morning. Most locations were in the 50’s; with Ruston checking in with 45 degrees this morning. The National Weather Service says we will get a warm-up, with a very nice weekend.

A lot more information has been released about the fatal shooting of a St. John Parish deputy who was killed by fellow law enforcement last week. Michelle Southern has more.

There are four announced candidates for the Louisiana Governor’s race, and all four- Senator David Vitter, Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne, Amite Representative John Bel Edwards and PSC member Scott Angelle-are all from south Louisiana. Jeremy Alford with la-politics-dot- com, says there are votes in North Louisiana to be had.

Meanwhile in the Louisiana Senate race, Senator Mary Landrieu is calling out Republican Congressman Bill Cassidy; referring to him as a a ‘debate dodger’. She made her comments Friday at Dillard University in New Orleans, which is the location of the first televised debate Thursday night. Tea Party Candidate Rob Maness will be there, but Cassidy has said he will not participate.

An estimated 40 percent of college students are losing their TOPS money resulting from their not keeping their obligations for the award. So now, the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance will send text messages to remind students of those requirements.

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Police Department says a linebacker was arrested this week on domestic abuse battery charges. Sergeant Bill Abrams says Christian Hill was arrested based on statements from the victim and video evidence. He says they are unsure of the condition of the victim at this time…

Two enlisted Louisiana Army National Guards men are being indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedy stealing $30 thousand dollars in recruiting bonuses. Forty-five year-old Pablo E. Paz of News Orleans and 29 year-old Ramon Madrid of Kenner are charged with identity theft and conspiracy to commit theft of government funds.

The former secretary of the department of health and hospitals has entered a not guilty plea on perjury charges. Bruce Greenstein was indicted by a grand jury on September 23rd. He’s accussed of lying about the alleged contact he had with his former employer Client Network Services, which was awarded a 200-million dollar state contract to process Medicaid claims.

Louisiana agriculture officials are seeking looser restrictions from the federal government on the use of drones. Farmers can use drones to make crop production more efficient, but current FAA rules make this illegal. LSU AgCenter Vice Chancellor Rogers Leonard says agriculture is probably one of the largest areas where drone use can be done safely…

He thinks Angelle faces an uphill battle when it comes to name recognition in comparison to fellow Republican candidates US Senator David Vitter and Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne.

The Louisiana Public Service Commission is encouraging motorists to use the hashtag symbol and the letter X in a text message to friends before they get behind the wheel. The hashtag-X symbol is the latest national effort to get people to stop texting and driving. PSC Chairman Erik Skrmetta is asking Louisiana residents to take this pledge…

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Shreveport say a tree fell on a mobile home in Bossier Parish and another on a car in Shreveport as a result of severe weather brought on by a cold front that’s moving through the state. There are no reports of injuries. SWEPCO says about 7,000 customers are currently without power in northwest Louisiana.
