The Destrehan High School teacher who was allegedly involved in a sex scandal with a 16-year-old student pleaded not guilty in court today. 34-year-old Shelley Dufresne was also granted more freedom on the conditions of her bail which means she can help her husband out with their young children. She is prohibited from having contact with the student in any way.

Local tensions abound in Louisiana amidst the riots in Ferguson last night after the decision by a grand jury not to indict officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown. There are at least three vigils or rallies planned for tonight in Louisiana in response to the grand jury’s decision not to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown.

The American Automobile Association says more than 46 million Americans will be hitting the road to celebrate Thanksgiving which is the most since 2007. The travel days are defined as tomorrow through Sunday. 90% of vacationers will be taking their car and enjoying the lowest gas prices in over 4 years.

A Moreauville family is fighting the town that is trying to enact a ban on “so-called” vicious dogs. This story is making national news. Joanna Armand, whose family owns a pit bull named Zeus, is fighting to lift that ban. Armand began an online petition and it has already generated over 245,000 signatures. She’s also reaching out to dog owners in Moreauville and Avoyelles Parish…:

The ban was to go into effect December 1, but that date has been put on hold likely do to the amount of backlash against the town.

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s office says a woman from Jonesboro is under arrest for the weekend murder of a 58-year-old man. They say 51-year-old Veronica Denice Jackson is accused of shooting and killing Grover Brown. She is booked with second degree murder.

Louisiana continues to shatter employment records. The Louisiana Workforce Commission Executive Director Curt Eysink says the number of private employment jobs has grown by 31-thousand over the last year. He says two industry sectors have set employment records…:

Total non-farm employment in Louisiana reached over 1.9 million in October, which is a new record high.

Early voting continues today for the December 6th runoff elections. West Monroe Representative Marcus Hunter is suing because he wants the early voting period extended since we’re losing the two days for Thanksgiving and Acadian Day. But Secretary of State Tom Scheduler says polls are closed on state holidays and that’s the law…:

The study shows the cost of prediabetes and undiagnosed diabetes grew as much as 82-percent since 2007. A Pennsylvania man has pleaded guilty in federal court of trying to entice a Lake Charles child to engage in sexual activity. Evidence shows that 40-year-old Timothy Kelly sent explicit images of himself to her, asked her to have sex with him, and talked of traveling to Louisiana for that purpose. Kelly faces 10 years to life in prison.

Former Governor Edwin Edwards took part in a 6th Congressional District race debate yesterday where his opponent, Garret Graves, did not show up. A GoFundMe account has been set up for the Hardman Family who lost five in a crash in Ouachita Parish while on their way to their dream Disney World vacation last week. According to the site, the money, now reaching almost $30,000, will be used for the five funeral expenses. Trudi and Michael Hardman died in a crash along with three juveniles age 15, 7 and 4.

The famous Natchitoches Christmas Festival of Lights is officially underway. The 300,000+ lights were turned on for the first time on Saturday and will twinkle every night at dusk through January 6th of next year. Madi Ackel is this year’s Miss Merry Christmas. She says Natchitoches is always special, but this is the highlight of the year…:
