They say 28-year-old John William Hope brought the baby to the hospital last week with life threatening injuries and told doctors she fell off the changing table. After further investiation of the injuries, Hope was charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile at the time and East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hilar Moore says he faces possible murder charges.

Deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office say a man has been arrested and charged with murder after his estranged wife was found dead Sunday night. They say 38-year-old David Johnson is charged with first degree murder, violations of protective orders and aggravated burglary with a weapon. Court documents show the victim had a restraining order against Johnson.

The Monroe Police Department continues the investigation today into the death of a ULM student whose body was discovered inside her apartment over the weekend. Cops are not identifying the woman at this time except to say she is an Asian ULM international student. Investigators say there was no sign of forcecd entry into the apartment, but the death is being treating as a homicide until it has been determined otherwise.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say this brutally hot weather could reach its highest point today then mild relief will settle in by Tuesday. Excessive heat warnings are posted throughout the state until this at least this evening according to NWS forecaster Andrew Ansorge…:

Funeral services for the Shreveport Police officer killed in the line of duty last week will be held today in Ascension Parish. Officer Thomas Lavalley, a native of St. Amant, was gunned down while responding to a disturbance call. 27-year-old Grover Cannon is charged with first degree murder in Lavalley’s death. Services are scheduled for 11AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant.

School’s back in session and authorities are urging drivers to be more cautious on the roads. American Automobile Association spokesperson Don Redman suggests that parents talk to their teen drivers about being vigilant and watch out for children walking and riding bicycles…

Jennings Police say a teenager is dead and two others are in custody after a weekend shooting at a party. Authorities say, when they arrived at the scene, they found 17-year-old Jawon Lennett suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Lennett was transported to a local hospital where he later died. 17-year-old Kyvonte Eaglin of Welsh was arrested and booked with second degree murder, while 19-year-old Jermaine Washington, Jr., also of Welsh, is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.

Afternoon high temperatures are expected to hit in the triple digits statewide today, with heat index values in the warning area approaching 120 degrees.
