After getting some backing from Britney Spears mom, Lynne, gubernatorial candidate John Bel Edwards is offering a rather entertaining incentive for people to contribute $50 to his campaign. By doing that, supporters are entered to win a trip for two to Las Vegas for the Britney Spears concert at Planet Hollywood; including airfare, hotel and backstage passes. The winner will be announced September 8.

In Grant Parish, a Justice of the Peace has resigned because she does not believe same-sex couples should be married, based on her faith. Patricia Gunter-who took the position in February- is the wife of a Baptist pastor. She says her beliefs come from the Bible and she doesn’t want to go against what it says.

Patricia Gunter took the position in February, knowing she would resign if this came into law. She says her beliefs come from the Bible and doesn’t have the right to go against what it says…:

Gunter is the wife of a Baptist pastor.

The Shreveport Police Department says a crash in west Shreveport killed two men and left two others recovering from serious injuries. They say it appears a vehicle left the roadway and flipped several times claiming the life of the 20-year-old driver and a 17 year old passenger. Two others were taken to a hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.

A new CNN survey, conducted between June 26 and June 28, shows Governor Bobby Jindal at 2% in the Republican Presidential poll which is up from 1%. ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockely says, right now, it will only take a few percentage points for the governor to make the cut to the top 10 to be in the debate…:

Star forward Anthony Davis has verbally agreed to accept the New Orleans Pelicans’ maximum extension deal that will reportedly pay him $145 million over five years. Davis took to social media to make the announcement last night. Jake Madison, with Bourbon Street Shots, says this deal will keep Davis in New Orleans until, at least, 2020…

Two more performers have decided not to come to Baton Rouge for the Miss USA pageant due to ties with Donald Trump who’s getting backlash over racially charged statements. Rapper Flo-Rida and singer Natalie LaRose have cancelled their performances for pageant July 12th at the Baton Rouge River Center.

The American Automobile Association says almost 42 million Americans will hit the road for the Fourth of July holiday, which is the most in eight years. They say the statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.55.

A search is underway for at least two suspects involved in an altercation with a State trooper in which one fired at the cop and injured him then fled the scene about five miles south of Alexandria.. The trooper returned fire. Troopers have updated the description of the vehicle they are looking for. It’s an ’80s Cheveolet Caprice, grey in color, red tape over the right tail light and a marijuana leaf hanging car freshener.

In response to the Louisiana ACLU and others challenging a religious liberty executive order, Governor Bobby Jindal says he’s not backing down. The order prohibits state agencies from taking adverse action on someone if they make a decision because their religion doesn’t believe in same sex marriage. Bossier City Representative Mike Johnson calls the lawsuit frivolous..:

The Louisiana ACLU says this order goes beyond the scope of a governor’s constitutional power.

Authorities report two people are dead and two more are injured following a one car crash in Shreveport overnight involving teenagers. Police report the wreck occurred just before 2am in the southern part of the city and there were 5 people in the car, all not wearing seatbelts. One died at the scene, one later at a hospital. No identifications have been made at this time.

AAA expects 42 million people traveling for Independence Day, the most since 2007. Scott Carwile has more….:

Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis will be staying in New Orleans for a while. Davis and the Pels have reportedly come to an agreement on the team’s maximum extension deal that will pay the star forward more $140 million over five years. The reported deal will keep Davis from entering free agency until 2020. Davis still has one year left on his rookie contract that will pay him $7 million next season.

A Louisiana justice of the peace has resigned due to the Supreme Court’s ruling legalizing same-sex marriages. Patricia Gunter of Pollock, a justice of the peace in Grant Parish, turned in her resignation Tuesday. Gunter, who is the wife of a church pastor, says she believes in the Bible’s definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman. She says because of the Court’s ruling, she feels she could no longer uphold the oath she swore to uphold the laws of the state and the country.

During a debate at the Farm Bureau Convention, the four major gubernatorial candidates were asked what is the biggest challenge they’ve ever faced in their personal life. Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle says the biggest challenge in his life was telling his mother he’d witnessed his sister die in a fatal crash as he was following her home from school…

State Police say a trooper conducting a traffic stop in Rapides Parish was injured and shot at during an altercation with the driver. Authorities say the trooper was hit in the head with an unknown object and they are looking for the individuals who were involved. State Police say the suspects were in a 90s model Chevrolet Caprice with a gray paint job or primer color.

A pack of cigarettes will cost you an extra 50 cents today as the state’s new tax of cigarettes goes into effect. Bill Bailey, owner of Smoker’s Paradise in Pineville, says the legislature also increased taxes on e-cigarettes and vapor products…

The state legislature approved a law that raises the tax on a pack of cigarettes from 36 cents to 86 cents.
