The latest campaign finance report on the governor’s race shows Democrat John Bel Edwards’ fundraising efforts picking up considerable steam. Since November 2nd, Edwards has raised approximately $1.5 million, with half of that amount being received Sunday and Monday. Republican David Vitter reported $130,000 raised in the same time frame.

Dr. Frank Welch, with the Department of Health and Hospitals, says this year’s flu season is getting off to a slow start and now is the time to get a flu shot. He says temperatures will be cooler this weekend, forcing more people inside and that’s how the flu bug gets around…

One of the Marksville officers involved in the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy and injuring of his father, is reportedly set to be released on a million dollars bond tomorrow. Apparently 23-year-old Norris Greenhouse Jr.s’ dad is securing property to come up with the bond. Greenhouse and Derrick Stafford are each charged with second degree murder in the fatal shooting of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis.

You’ve probably noticed we’re dealing with a major mosquito problem in Louisiana right now, even this far into November. Colby Colona, President of the Louisiana Mosquito Control Association, says blame the weather..:

During the LBP debate last night, things got heated toward the end with Democrat John Bel Edwards calling Republican opponent David Vitter a liar and a cheater, and Vitter accusing the West Point graduate of not living by the Honor Code. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan doesn’t feel there was a “winner” of the debate, but this bickering will continue..:

They are split on many matters including the direction they believe healthcare should be headed in the state. Democrat John Bel Edwards says he would immediately expand the traditional Medicaid program as governor, and it should have already been done…:

But Vitter says that would cripple the state financially and the US Senator would only consider Medicaid expansion on Louisiana’s terms.

Voters finally seem to be paying more attention to this race as Secretary of State Tom Schedler says early voting numbers for the November 21st runoff are higher than they were for the primary. Polls are closed today in observance of Veterans Day, but will reopen tomorrow morning between 8:30-6 through Saturday.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office says a man is dead and another is behind bars after a fight escalated between the two over a dog. They believe the suspect, 38-year-old Danny Breaux of Raceland, arranged to buy the dog from 39-year-old Duong Tran, but ended up not paying for it. Cops say during a fight over the matter, Breaux beat Tran to death in a street. He will be booked on a charge of second-degree murder.
