The honorary procession for Officer Thomas LaValley left from Shreveport, with a scheduled arrival in his home this afternoon. Baton Rouge Police announce they will be lining I-10 with their vehicle lights on and officers standing outside those vehicles to pay their respects around 2 pm. Visitation for LaValley will be Sunday night, with the funeral on Monday.

According to a recent poll commissioned by a group of Baton Rouge and New Orleans business leaders, the gubernatorial candidate who once had a commanding lead in the race, has slipped. The survey, which reveals various scenarios, has one with Republican Scott Angelle in the lead over US Senator David Vitter. Adding in voting history puts Democrat John Bel Edwards is in first place. Vitter’s campaign is skeptical of the numbers.

The man accused of killing a Shreveport Police Officer this week is set to appear before a Caddo Parish grand jury on October 13th. 27-year-old Grover Cannon is the suspect in the shooting death of Officer Thomas LaValley who succumbed to his injuries while in the line of duty. An arrest has been made in connection to a double homicide which happened in January near Donaldsonville in Ascension Parish. Deputies have charged 26-year-old Quinton Jackson of New Orleans with two counts of first degree murder. 37-year-old Chad Nichols and 29-year-old Benny Booker were found fatally shot at a home in what officials believe was a drug-related crime with the possible motive of robbery. Jackson was arrested with the help of New Orleans cops. Ascension Sheriff Wiley emphasized that this investigation is far from over.
