The US Senator was in Lafayette today announcing endorsements of a group that represents Louisiana’s oil and gas industry and also several politicians from the Acadiana region, many of of whom supported Republican Scott Angelle in the primary. The endorsements for Vitter include Congressman Charles Boustany and Lafayette Mayor Joey Durel. Vitter will be in Baton Rouge tomorrow holding a “Together, Louisiana Strong” rally with other Republicans.

The Shreveport Police department says two people have been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting that claimed the life of one woman and injured two others. 36-year-old Verdina Crichlow was killed. Cpl. Breck Scott says 29-year-old Elbert Fredieu was arrested in the shooting and 24-year-old Scarlett Groce as an accomplice. He says the surviving victims, 43-year-old Tammy Harris and 15-year-old Tranautica Webber, remain hospitalized…:

The New Orleans branch of the NAACP is calling on Vitter to remove the words “dangerous thugs” from one of his campaign commercials to describe people who get out of prison. The ad compares Edwards to President Obaama saying they have plans to release 5,500 inmates. Vitter’s spokesman Luke Bolar says they’re not about to take the ad down.

The Louisiana Department of Education is releasing the report cards for high schools with only grades 9-12 for the 2014-2015 school year. They say schools made progress in every measure the state uses to assess high school quality including ACT, graduation rate and end of course tests.

State Police Col Mike Edmonson announces the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles collected just over $2 million dollars in car insurance lapse fines since they sent out 1.2 million warning letters to drivers. He said that as of Wednesday, the agency was able to clear the driving records of about 30,000 people since the notices went out October 13th…:

A new report from the Louisiana Board of Regents shows that fewer college students are losing the TOPS scholarship than a decade ago. It says during the 2004-2005 school year, 41 percent of TOPS students lost their scholarships, but in the last school year, only 8 percent lost their award. TOPS students can only attend school tuition free if they enroll full time and maintain a C- average.

Meanwhile, Louisiana’s public colleges will ask the new governor and legislature for a significant increase in state funding. The Board of Regents currently receives 769-million in state dollars and its allocated to universities and colleges. Higher education commissioner Joe Rallo says the board is requesting an additional 636-million dollars next fiscal year to help meet the state’s workforce demands…:

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Plaquemine man, accused of selling methadone to a man who later died of an overdose, is now charged with second degree murder. They say investigators determined that 30-year-old Jeremy Doiron sold the drugs which caused Nicholas LeBlanc’s overdose death in August. Under Louisiana law, drug dealers can be charged with second degree murder in drug overdose deaths.

AARP of Louisiana has released a video featuring the two gubernatorial candidates discussing their views on policies which impact older voters. Spokesman Andrew Muhl says, on November 21st, voters will be setting the course for the future of our state, which faces major budgeting challenges especially around heath care financing. He hopes the video will help their members prepare…
