Employment numbers released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission find the state has added nearly 15-thousand non-farm jobs over the last last year. And the state’s unemployment rate has dropped slightly to five-point-one percent. The leisure and hospitality sector continues to gain jobs.

A federal lawsuit has been filed to stop the removal of a Confederate monument at the Caddo Parish Courthouse. The legal action comes after the Caddo Parish Commission voted to remove the statue from where it currently stands. Commissioner Louis Johnson voted for the monument’s removal and he says he can’t control what the courts will do…

The lawsuit was filed by the Shreveport Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, which owns the monument and they claim the statute is on private property.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s office announces the arrest of 46-year-old David Foreman of Prairieville. He’s accused of killing 61-year-old Byron Hayes and leaving a 70-year-old man in critical condition as a result of a shooting at a home on Tillotson Road. Chief Deputy Bobby Webre says the case is still under investigation….

Webre says there’s a possibility the shooting was drug related.

Eight people were arrested in Acadiana on multiple charges of Medicaid welfare fraud. Attorney General Jeff Landry says there is a tremendous amount of abuse in Louisiana and his office will continue to fight to root out welfare fraud. He says Louisiana spends 14 billion dollars a year under the Medicaid expansion.

State Attorney General Jeff Landry announces the arrest of eight people in the Acadiana area on Medicaid welfare fraud charges. Landry says Medicaid fraud occurs when providers use the Medicaid program to obtain money they are not entitled to. He encourages residents to report Medicaid fraud or abuse to his office.

The Caddo Parish Commission has voted seven to five to remove a Confederate monument that has stood in front of the courthouse for 111 years.  A motion was made to put the issue up for a public vote, but that recommendation was voted down.  Gulf Coast Patriot Network’s Rex Dukes is upset the public is not being allowed to make the decision on keeping or removing the statue.

A Prairieville man has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of one man and critically injuring another on Wednesday in Ascension Parish. Chief Deputy Bobby Webre says detectives arrested 46-year-old David Foreman Jr. last night. He says more arrests are possible.

LSU fraternities will not be allowed to have alcohol on campus until early next year.  LSU President F. King Alexander says students have not understood the seriousness of the recent death of student Maxwell Gruver.  A school task force is evaluating current frat policies and procedures and will report their findings in January.

It was a violent night in Baton Rouge. Police say a 56-year-old woman was fatally shot when a black male suspect walked up to a vehicle stopped at an intersection and fired his weapon. The gunman fled. And a teenager, possibly wearing his school uniform, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in a park. In Monroe, police are investigating a fatal hit and run on Ruffin Drive.

There are 49 confirmed cases of salmonella in Caldwell Parish and 31 people were hospitalized after eating jambalaya at a charity softball game. State Office of Public Health’s Dr. David Holcombe says the symptoms of the gastrointestinal illness are abdominal cramping, fever and diarrhea. He says make sure you cook chicken thoroughly and don’t let it sit out.

Caddo Parish commissioners voted to remove a Confederate monument outside the courthouse.  An earlier motion to allow the public to vote whether to keep the monument or not didn’t pass.  Commissioners heard public comments that revealed over three-quarters of those spoke in favor of removing it.  The monument has stood at the courthouse since 1906.  A new location for the monument will be decided later.

Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise is hopeful that President Trump’s tax reform package will be passed, giving relief to millions of American’s pocketbooks and corporations.  The House Majority Whip says the Republicans reform proposal will simplify the tax code bringing a couple of benefits…

Dr. Paul Harch has been studying the effects of the therapy on 30 veterans since 2008.  He knew some symptoms would be reduced, but was surprised at the final results…

President Donald Trump is promising massive tax cuts for the American people.

The US Coast Guard reports 672-thousand gallons of oil has been dumped into the Gulf of Mexico from a damaged pipeline about 40 miles south of Venice. That’s nearly twice as much as the original estimate last Friday. The Coast Guard says the oil is drifting away from the coast, but none of its recoverable at the surface, because of the depth of the leak and the high pressure at which the oil was released.
