21 years ago Glenn Mistich introduced John Madden, and by extension the country, to a Louisiana original, the Turducken. Mitstich, who runs Gourmet Butcher Block in Gretna with his wife, was summoned before the December 7^th Rams game by WWL’s Bob Delgiorno to bring the voice of football the frankenbird. Madden immediately fell in love.

Governor Edwards, on Ask the Governor, said minimum wage increase successes in other southern states have galvanized his administration to push for a Louisiana minimum wage increase from 7.25 an hour to 8.50. But a legislative leader on minimum wage issues says 8.50 an hour may not cut it this time around. New Orleans Senator Troy Carter says after three years of zero progress, he’s looking at a more ambitious plan than what the Governor is proposing.

A Lake Charles man was rescued by Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in Cameron Parish.  According to the man, he was duck hunting on a kayak when he got lost trying to find his way back to the launch.  Authorities received the report when he was overdue to return and located the man the next morning.  The man claims he had no cellular service to call for help.  He was taken to a hospital to be treated for mild hypothermia.

A federal judge in Mississippi has ruled that an abortion ban after 15 weeks is unconstitutional. That means a similar law passed in Louisiana this year will not go into effect anytime soon. Louisiana’s 15-week abortion ban only goes into effect if the federal court upholds the law in Mississippi. It’s unclear if the Mississippi governor will appeal the decision.

Shreveport police have arrested a 13-year-old who is accused of shooting a pizza delivery driver earlier this month. 28-year-old Lester McGee was gunned down two days after starting with Domino’s. A 105-year prison sentence has been handed down against 56-year-old Douglas Holley, who was convicted of a crime in which detonated a homemade bomb in an effort to kill a veterinarian and his wife. The bomb did not hurt Bobby Hewlett and their wife of Bossier Parish. Holley worked as a horse farm handyman and prospectors say he was upset they couldn’t save his horse from dying.

Both suspects are facing Second Degree Murder charges.

Representative Mike Johnson has been elected as the chairman of the Republican Study Committee for the 116^th Congress.  Johnson appeared on Talk Louisiana with Jim Engster to discuss his new role.  With 159 members, it’s the largest caucus of conservatives in Congress.  Johnson says the caucus has been around for 45 years with the goal of leading influence in the legislative agenda.

It’s less than three days from Thanksgiving, and if you’re roasting a bird you’ll want to make sure your guests don’t end up regretting it on black Friday. LSU AgCenter food safety expert Wenqing Xu says check the temperature in all potential cold spots, like under the wings.  And while you’re at it, you might want to get a head start on putting that turkey in the fridge so you don’t get defrosted turkey juice all over the counter because you’re trying to get the bird de-iced on short notice.

The Vermilion Parish School board has had their infamous January meeting voided by the courts. That’s the one where a teacher was dragged out of the room by a guard while questioning a Superintendent raise that was ultimately passed. Attorney General Jeff Landry says Landry says it’s a win for justice and the rule of law, and this one was one of the most clear-cut violations of Open Meeting Laws he’s seen.

The educator, Deyshia Hargrave, was questioning Superintendent Jerome Puyau’s 30,000 dollar raise.
