Governor Edwards and Eddie Rispone will face off in what is likely to be the only gubernatorial debate of the run-off October 30^th on Louisiana Public Broadcasting.

LPB partnered with Council for a Better Louisiana to host the debate, and CABL President Barry Erwin says the discussion will be broken into seven sections over the course of the hour.

The program will begin at 7 PM and is stream-able on LPB.org.

The questions will be posed by a panel of journalists, but Erwin says they’ll give plenty of opportunities for the candidates to interrogate each other.

This follows a national trend in debate formats that set aside more time for candidate to candidate questions.

With less than a month until voters hit the polls there were growing concerns that a run-off debate would not happen. Erwin says in this case they just had a lot of coordinating work to do.

Could LSU take top ranking in college football next week?  A victory over ninth-ranked Auburn would be the third win over top-ten opponents for the Bayou Bengals this season.  Alabama has zero but is currently ranked number one.  AP Top 25 voter and Advocate writer Brooks Kubena says if LSU impressively handles their opponent, it could happen.

Kubena says of the three top-ten opponents LSU has faced this year, Auburn is the only one with a previous loss, which could add a bit of urgency in their need to pick up a win.

All eyes will be on Joe Burrow as the buzz for a Heisman Trophy continues to grow around the QB.  Kubena also participated in Heisman Trophy voting last year and says his performance over the next few games may only intensify his odds of being selected.

Connor Croll, the 19-year-old Alabama freshman accused of calling in a bomb threat to Tiger Stadium during the LSU-Florida game because a friend was on the verge of losing a large bet, pleads not guilty.  East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore says a prank of this magnitude is not being taken lightly.

Croll faces up to 20 years for the felony charge.

Moore says while some may dismiss Croll’s alleged actions as childish, the evacuation of thousands of possibly inebriated fans from Tiger Stadium could have been chaotic.

Baton Rouge Attorney James Rothkamm is representing Croll and calls him a good kid and says they are waiting until all information comes back before determining how to proceed.

Police claim Croll confessed to making the threat in an attempt to stop the game.

Rothkamm says Croll has the support of his family and community as the proceedings move forward.

The Pelicans open the regular season tonight against the defending champs in Toronto sans superstar rookie sensation, forward Zion Williamson.

Williamson suffered a knee injury in preseason that required surgery that is set to keep him out for the next six to eight weeks. Locked on Pelicans publisher Jake Madison says it’s a noticeable setback for the franchise…

The 555-thousand dollar project calls for the installation of nearly 40 new street lighting poles on U-S Highway 165 South from Century Bouelvard to Winnsboro Road. State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened last night in Ferriday. Authorities say a Concordia Parish Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a vehicle pursuit and the deputy shot at the subject, 19-year-old Tyler Conner. Conner was transported to a Baton Rouge hospital for treatment and no deputies were injured.

Lake Charles police find a car stuck inside of Oak Park Elementary cafeteria after responding to reports of a vehicle crash at the school. Police have cited the driver of the vehicle with reckless operation after interviewing them. They say the driver was there to drop off a kid at school and thought the vehicle was in reverse when they pumped the pedal, and went flying through the building.  

Governor Edwards may be itching for a gubernatorial debate but Matt Doyle spoke to one political analyst who says don’t expect Eddie Rispone to take the risk…

New Orleans officials are calling Sunday afternoon’s attempt to demolish the crane towers at the Hard Rock Hotel collapse a success. Following the detonation, there are still remnants of the cranes over Canal Street and on the ground on Rampart Street, but officials are saying the building is now safer than it has been in days.

The state’s latest tally of hepatitis A cases is up to just shy of 600, the highest case count in twenty years.  It’s part of a larger nationwide outbreak.  Louisiana Department of Health immunization director Dr. Frank Welch says the ailment, which is a highly contagious liver infection, can be spread easily through close contact, adding it is nothing to take lightly.

The average number of cases each year in the state is 10 to 15 cases.

Second ranked LSU started slow, but eventually cruised to another SEC road victory as the Bayou Bengals scored 27 unanswered points on their way to a 36-13 win over Mississippi State on Saturday.
