After opening eight regional main offices on Monday, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles plans to open ten other offices today as the O-M-V continues to recover from last week’s ransomware attack. Other state government agencies are up and running.

Senator John Kennedy is working to get $10 billion for rural broadband infrastructure through the “Clearing Broad Airwaves for New Deployment, or C-Band, Act.” Kennedy filed the measure in part because there are many people in less populated areas do not have reliable internet service.

It’s a historic debut today as Mississippi residents could purchase Louisiana Lottery scratch-off tickets for the first time in their home state.

Louisiana Lottery spokesperson Kim Chopin says the Louisiana Lottery transferred more than 184-million dollars to the state treasury for K-through-12 public education. She credits their creative scratch-off games.

Louisiana State Parks will soon end its 3-night minimum requirement for weekday stays at state campgrounds and cabins. The change starts December 9th. State Parks Director Brandon Burris says they’ve heard the feedback from visitors to get rid of the minimum weeknight stay policy that has been in place for the last few years.

Burris expects an uptick in reservations due to the policy change.

Approximately 12-hundred convenience stores in the across Mississippi began selling Louisiana Lottery scratch off tickets today. It marks the first time Bayou State scratch off games were available in Mississippi. The American Farm Bureau finds that Louisiana residents can expect to pay $47.54 for a Thanksgiving dinner that caters to a party of ten. That’s $1.37 less than the national average price. Louisiana Farm Bureau federation spokesperson Avery Davidson says a 16-pound turkey is about $2 less than the national average.

Eight Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicle offices reopened today after the recent attempted ransom ware attack of state government computer systems. The list of OMV offices returning to serving the public includes locations in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Lafayette, Monroe, Alexandria, Lake Charles, and Thibodeaux. LSP notes that fingerprinting, background checks, and that concealed handgun permits offices will not be open to the public at this time.

Users of the Windows 7 Operating Systems should know that beginning on January 14^th of next year MicroSoft will no longer be offer patches or updates for Windows OS 7.

Tech Gumbo host Hagai (HAG-EE) Davis says almost a third of all computers in circulation still run Windows 7, and a lot of those folks are in serious danger of being hit by malware that’s sat dormant on their computer.

Davis says when Windows discontinued XP in 2013, users saw a massive spike in malware attacks the day after it dropped support.

If sweet potatoes are part of your Thanksgiving menu, shoppers in Louisiana can expect some savings in their holiday meal budgets. Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation spokesperson Avery Davidson says for three pounds of sweet potatoes, Louisiana residents can expect to spend about $1.43 compared to just over $3 around the rest of the country.

Oil and gas rigs receive approval from the Trump Administration to operate at reduced royalty or royalty-free rates in new shallow waters in the Gulf of Mexico. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement Director Scott Angelle says revitalizing shallow water drilling would reinvigorate coastal communities like Morgan City, Houma, New Iberia, Terrebonne, and Lafourche.

If you’re still using Windows 7 the clock is ticking, beginning January 14^th Windows will no longer offer patches and updates for their Windows 7 operating system. Tech Gumbo host Hagai Davis says that’s a concern because users can be vulnerable to attacks. However, Windows offers a free upgrade to Windows 10 for Windows 7 and 8 users. Davis says it’s something that can be taken care of pretty quickly.

Davis adds Windows 10 may not run well on older computers, so if your system is four years old or older, it’s time to look at getting an upgrade.
