A Baton Rouge Judge sides against an effort by Attorney General Jeff Landry to block Governor Edwards from issuing new public health restrictions that are set to expire on Friday. Instead the AG and Edwards will have their cases heard in court next Thursday, lawsuits stemming from a Legislative petition that attempted to end the statewide public health emergency declaration.

It’ll be an intra-party battle for the open 5^th congressional district seat that stretches from the northeast to Cenla and over to the Florida Parishes. The seat was vacated after Congressman Ralph Abraham announced his retirement but had an early favorite in Abraham’s hand-picked successor and former chief of staff Luke Letlow. Letlow raised about half a million dollars, an impressive haul for the 5^th and secured 33 percent of the vote Tuesday.

Letlow laid out some of his priorities should he win December 5^th…

His opponent is Alexandria lawmaker Lance Harris who secured just under 17 percent of the vote. Harris served as the State House Republican Majority Caucus Chair and says while he and Letlow may share similar conservative views he’s the candidate with the record of getting them into law.

Two-point one million Louisiana voters turned out the vote for the 2020 Presidential election. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin is proud of his staff for their timely work. A key factor for prompt results in Louisiana was the ability to begin prepping a record number of absentee ballots in advance.

Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin is very pleased with how the process went despite the challenges of a pandemic and three hurricanes.

It was a late night for election officials in Louisiana but compared to other states somewhat early, staff finished counting at 1 am this morning.

Campbell a democrat won re-election to the commission in a majority red area of the state, defeating Republican challenger Shane Smiley. Campbell says he’ll also work to provide affordable internet service for constituents in North Louisiana.

Nationally results continue to trickle in with former VP Joe Biden with a very small lead across a number of swing states in the northern Midwest and Arizona and Nevada. The Trump campaign filed lawsuits in Pennsylvania and Michigan seeking a temporary halt in the vote-counting process in the two crucial swing states. The suits also seek greater access for campaign poll watchers into the locations where ballots are being counted. The campaign also wants to be given access to verify the legitimacy of already counted ballots. A recount will also be sought in Wisconsin, a state that went to former VP Joe Biden by a narrow 20,000 vote margin.

Letlow, secured 33 percent of the vote Tuesday. His opponent Alexandria State Representative Lance Harris nabbed just under 17 percent of the vote, 456 more votes than the third-place candidate, and Democrat Sandra Christophe.

Harris will be a formidable challenger. He’s the former Republican Majority leader in the State House and a businessman. He says voters will connect with his life experience and conservative record.

Louisiana voters turned out the vote in record numbers for the 2020 Presidential election. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin is very pleased with how the process went despite the challenges a pandemic presented and voter turnout was 69.4-percent.

Senator Bill Cassidy cruises to reelection winning 1.2 million votes, good for 59 percent and easily dodges a potential December runoff. His primary Democratic opponent Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins only got 19 percent of the vote. Perkins thanked his supporters saying over four months ago running for Congress was not on his radar.

The Secretary of State’s Office says two-point-one million ballots were cast in Louisiana for the November 3rd election, one-point-one million people voted yesterday, 817-thousand early voted and 167-thousand voters cast an absentee ballot. President Trump received 58-percent of the Louisiana vote and Senator Bill Cassidy won re-election to a second term.

Five of the seven constitutional amendments on the ballot passed. Amendment one, an anti-abortion measure, received the most support at 64-percent. But La-Politics-dot-com publisher Jeremy Alford says amendment four which would create a new state budget spending limit failed…
