The sales tax holiday in Louisiana is underway, today and tomorrow, the first 25-hundred on most purchases are exempted from the 4.45-percent state sales tax. NFIB State Director Dawn Starns says the legislature’s decision to bring the holiday back to assist residents and business owners recovering from hurricanes and the pandemic is vital.

Starns says with the holidays approaching and a tough year for Louisiana businesses the sales tax holiday the weekend before traditional Black Friday, could not have come at a better time.

When you combine both state and local sales tax Louisiana ranks among some of the highest taxes in the country. Starns says the legislature acting to revive the sales tax holiday this year is a win-win for consumers and businesses.

The exemption applies to in-store as well online and by phone purchases. Meals, rentals, and vehicles are excluded from the sales tax holiday.

The White House Coronavirus Task Force is calling on Louisiana to increase its mitigation efforts as the state is seeing a rise in test positivity, the number of new cases and hospitalizations. Edwards says if everyone followed the rules in the current Phase 3 order, the state’s COVID-19 situation would improve…

Over the last three weeks, the parishes with the highest number of new cases over the last three weeks are Caddo, Ouachita, and East Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge Physician Chris Thomas urges citizens to take COVID seriously and follow mitigation measures. Thomas, an ICU physician at Our Lady of the Lakes hospital has not only been treating patients he contracted the virus as well. Thomas says after surges in the spring and summer we need to avoid a third.

As case numbers and hospitalization rates climb daily and some parishes faced with closing bars again, Thomas says everyone must heed the warnings and practice social distancing and wear a mask…

Saints tight end Jared Cook says he wants to contribute more to victories. Cook averaged 16 yards a catch last season and had nine touchdown receptions. This year, he only has 13 yards a catch four touchdown grabs. He knows he’s not having as good of a season as last year

Here we go again with the possibility an LSU football game will not be played because of COVID-19. The Tigers are set to play at Arkansas tomorrow, but there have been positive cases within the Razorback football program, and with contact tracing Coach Sam Pittman’s team is running low on available players. He says they are waiting on Thursday’s test results to find out if they can play…

If the LSU-Arkansas game can be played, a struggling Tigers defense will face a quarterback that’s playing with a lot of confidence.
