The state reports a decline in applications from people looking to be a state worker. According to the Advocate newspaper, the percentage of applicants for state jobs has dropped 52 percent over the last two years. Louisiana’s Director of State Civil Service says the pandemic has changed people’s views of work.

After firing shots at a marked Monroe Police vehicle, four men are now behind bars. Police Chief Vic Zordan says while no one was injured early Sunday morning shooting, it does have their full attention and the four men are no strangers to law enforcement.

The driver Xavian Bilton faces attempted first-degree murder charges and along with the remaining passengers they all face illegal possession of a firearm and controlled substance charges.

Louisiana is losing population in MOST of its parishes. U.S. Census Bureau data shows our state lost over 27-thousand residents between July 2020 and July 2021.  Dr. Allison Plyer is chief demographer with The Data Center in New Orleans. House GOP Caucus chairman Blake Miguez has yet to decide on how he would vote on a veto overturn because he doesn’t support the Congressional map approved. His reasoning is it splits St. Martin and St. Mary parishes between two congressional districts.

Baton Rouge Representative Barbara Carpenter wants parents convicted of killing their minor children to be added to the list of first-degree murder thus making them eligible for the death penalty.

Carpenter says the murder of a two-year-old in Baton Rouge last fall whose body was taken to Mississippi to be buried inspired the legislation.

Baton Rouge Representative Barbara Carpenter wants parents convicted of killing their minor children added to the list of first-degree murder, making them eligible for the death penalty. Baton Rouge Representative Denise Marcelle spoke in opposition and says many adults who kill their children suffer from mental illness. She also opposes the death penalty in its entirety.

The Louisiana Supreme Court issued a six to one opinion that the Louisiana police officer who was injured when violence over the police killing of Alton Sterling broke out in 2016 can sue Black Lives Matter protest organizer DeRay Mckesson. The officer suffered serious head and facial injuries when he was hit by an object thrown at him as protestors blocked a highway.
