After Houma police say a woman threw her infant son off a bridge Friday. She’s now being held on attempted murder charges. Lt. Travis Theriot says when officers arrived at the Liberty Street Bridge around 5 PM they learned that 30-year Asha Randolph threw her 18-month-old child off the bridge into Bayou Terrebonne.

A federal judge will not block Louisiana’s plan to move about two-dozen troubled juvenile offenders from Bridge City Center for Youth in Jefferson Parish to the State Penitentiary at Angola. Earlier this morning, Ian strengthened into a hurricane and it could be a major hurricane before hitting the western side of Cuba. Once it reaches the Gulf, Ian is expected to strengthen into a Category Four hurricane before making a second landfall north of Tampa Thursday night or Friday morning.

To help students who are not reading on grade level a proposal for required summer school is up for consideration.

The Bridge City Center for Youth has seen numerous escapes and fights and the state says in order to make the facility safer, they need to send some of the young offenders to Angola.

Lucille Fremin Babineaux, the mother of former Governor Kathleen Blanco, will be laid to rest today in New Iberia. Babineaux died last week at the age of 102. She was the matriarch of 105 people as she and her late husband, Louis, had seven children. One of her granddaughters, Monique Boulet, says she was with the former governor all the time in her final days as she battled cancer in 2019…

Louisiana Tech is preparing for an aviation partnership with United Airlines for qualified pilots.  Dean of the College of Liberal Arts Karl Puljak (pull-yak) the partnership helps united fill job vacancies and it also opens the door for students who are underrepresented in the industry.

Louisiana has officially surpassed 18,000 COVID-19 deaths since the state recorded its first Covid- 19 death on march 14^th. LDH reported that 18,009 people have died in its Friday Covid-19 data update. In Louisiana Covid 19 is the third leading cause of death since 2020 behind heart disease and cancer.

Tropical Storm Ian formed last night in the Caribbean Sea. State Climatologist Barry Keim says Ian is heading towards Cuba and it’s expected to reach the southeastern Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday morning as a hurricane. A U-S landfall is expected mid-week near Tampa, Florida. Keim says Louisiana is NOT in the cone of uncertainty…

The Houma police department arrested 30 year old Asha Randolph for the attempted first-degree murder of her 18- month old child. Around 5pm Friday evening Randolph threw her son off the liberty street bridge into bayou Terrebonne. The toddler was taken to the hospital and expected to recover. Houma police are still investigating what led to the incident.

A federal judge in New Orleans rules the state can move juvenile offenders from a detention center in Jefferson Parish to the state penitentiary at Angola. The judge determined it does not violate federal law, but activists and attorneys plan to appeal. The Edwards administration came up with the plan for numerous riots and escapes at the Bride City Center for Youth.

In a first of its kind of collaboration at LA Tech, aviation students will have access to training from United Airlines. Brooke Thorington has more.

State Climatologist Barry Keim says the system is expected to strengthen over the weekend and enter the southeastern portion of the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday after it crosses western Cuba as a hurricane.
