The National Transportation Safety Board puts much of the blame on a faulty weather system for what happened in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2021 when the Seacor Power boat capsized killing 13 people eight miles south of Port Fourchon. The NTSB says a 10 to 15 minute warning about the approaching bad weather could have possibly prevented the tragedy.

In addition to animal safety, H-S-L President Jeff Dorson says Louisiana is missing out on a revenue stream to fund the breeder oversite. He says the state of Georgia collects $800 thousand annually from licenses and penalties and Louisiana should do the same.
