The Biden administration has tightened requirements for debt forgiveness. The US Department of Education now says borrowers with privately held federal student loans can’t apply for the relief. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has reconsidered her trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina for a World Mayors Conference. Her Honor says she will not fly to South America, but will instead attend virtually. Cantrell has been ordered to repay the city the cost of upgrading plane fares for three trips abroad in the past four months to first class. She is also under an active recall petition.

Police in Shreveport say man kidnapped two small children, shot them both and then turned the gun on himself. The victims were both toddlers. Shreveport PD’s Sgt. Chris Bordelon says investigators have been piecing together what led to the tragedy…:

More federal bucks coming to Louisiana, which will mean new jobs. Vidalia’s Syrah Technologies will get about $220-million to manufacture electric vehicle batteries for Tesla. Senator Bill Cassidy says the money will help Louisiana build an economy for 2050, not just 2023…:

$100-million will flow to Kloura chemical in St. Gabriel, in Iberville Parish, will be the first U.S. manufacturing plant for lithium hexafluorophosphate; a battery component.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a murder suicide Tuesday morning in Mandeville. Officers say 43-year-old Tara Brook called 9-1-1 and told them she’d just shot her daughter and was about to shoot herself. They then heard a gunshot. Responding officers found Brooks and the daughter, 23-year-old Brittany Buras, dead.

Tragedy in Shreveport last night. Police say a man killed two young children and then himself in west Shreveport. Public information officer Sgt. Chris Bordelon:

Bordelon says the man took the children from a mobile home park on Pines Road to a public park and shot them there. He says the infant was found dead at the scene and the older child died later at a hospital. Police say the children were kidnapped.

And for example, if your friend shares their password with you, Davis says Netflix will know that your IP address which is also the billing address, is not associated with your friend’s IP address.

Davis says an issue Netflix will have to address is if you have an account and you use it on your phone, tablet, or even log in at the office on your lunch hour will you be forced to pay extra for a subaccount?

Davis says Netflix has been testing their password credentials in South America and they are expected to roll out in the US next year.

Henderson says Louisiana’s debt load is lower than other states because of the TOPS scholarship program. Individuals who make less than $125,000 per year or married couples who make less than $250,000 per year are eligible for up to $10,000 in forgiveness. Borrowers who meet those requirements plus went to school with Pell Grants—loans for income students—are eligible for up to $20,000 dollars in forgiveness.

He says the relief is especially needed by people who were not able to complete their degrees.

Work has begun in Kenner on converting the 30-year-old Treasure Chest riverboat casino on Lake Ponchartrain into a land-based operation. The $100-million project is expected to be ready to open in 2024. In the meantime the riverboat will remain open.

In its final report on the SEACOR Power liftboat disaster, the National Transportation and Safety Board puts most of the blame on a faulty weather alert system for what happened in the Gulf of Mexico in April of 2021 when the vessel capsized killing 13 people. The NTSB says a 10 to 15 minute warning about the approaching bad weather could have prevented the tragedy.

Ten juvenile offenders have been moved from the Bridge City Center for Youth to the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. The juvenile detention center in Jefferson Parish has seen several escapes and reports of violence.
