A Lafourche Parish sheriff’s deputy was killed Sunday, during a pursuit of a suspect. State Police Trooper Tom Gossen says it started early Sunday morning in Houma with a man running from a routine traffic stop. LPSO Sgt. Nick Pepper got involved when the chase crossed into Lafourche…:

The unnamed suspect made a second getaway attempt; ramming into Pepper’s patrol unit and killing him. Once that man is out of the hospital, he faces serious charges.

Up once again go the prices of gas and diesel fuel. Regular gas is up over a dime in just one week. Louisiana AAA’s Don Redman says plan on gas going up about 30 more cents over the next month…:

By the way, a celebratory parade for the NCAA Champion Lady Tigers will take place Wednesday in Baton Rouge. The university says the parade will be at 6:30 p.m., and a celebration at the PMAC will get underway at 7 p.m. Additional details about the parade route have not yet been released. The Lady Tigers took down the Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday, April 2, 102-85, which was a championship game scoring record.

Gas prices are on the rise again, up a dime over the last week; now at a statewide average cost of $3.18 for regular. Louisiana AAA’s Don Redman says it’s because oil producers abroad are cutting production, and it will likely get worse in May. Redman says crude jumped 6-percent this morning…:

The state has a surplus of over a billion dollars as lawmakers go into regular session next week. What will they seek to do with it? The Public Affairs Research Council says it’s best to make one-time use of the money, because it’s non-recurring revenue. Some lawmakers propose doing something to fight the fentanyl crisis, and PAR President Steven Procopio says that could be a good move…:

Two people are under arrest for a fatal house fire that killed a Pineville man. 28-year-old Elizabeth Butler and 39-year-old Dorian Lewis are charged with negligent homicide and simple arson. The victim, 63-year-old Chong Daenan, leaves behind a wife and three kids.

State trooper Thomas Gossen says after the suspect fled Houma police into Lafourche Parish, Pepper’s vehicle was blocking traffic to keep the public safe as negotiations were underway.

Gas prices are on the rise again, up a dime from last week. Triple-A fuel analyst Don Redman says we normally see prices go up this time of the year as refineries switch from winter to summer-grade gasoline.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Sergeant Nick Pepper was killed in a fatal crash Sunday after a suspect rammed Pepper’s vehicle. Sheriff Craig Webre extended sympathy to Pepper’s family and praised his service with the department where Pepper’s wife Christie also works as an investigator. State police are overseeing the investigation.

Lower Energy Costs Act – authored by Congressman Steve Scalise passed the U.S. House on Thursday, and he’s hopeful it will receive support from the Senate. Scalise’s House Resolution 1 passed by a narrow 225-204 margin. Scalise says the bill is intended to help consumers financially, but he’s already spoken with some Democrats in the Senate who are interested in debating the measure.

Scalise says 60 senators (about 11 of them Democrats) will have to vote to bring the bill up for debate.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre has identified the deputy who was killed in a police pursuit Sunday morning. 44-year-old Sergeant Nicholas Pepper died after a suspect rammed into Sergeant Pepper’s unit. Pepper began his career with the Sheriff’s office in 2007. The suspect was taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.

LSU Lady Tigers are the NCAA national champions of women’s basketball. LSU scored a 102-85 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes last night. Angel Reese scored 15 points with ten rebounds, giving her an NCAA record 34th double-double for the season. Reese was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.

Requiring parental consent for children 16 and younger to use social media platforms is the foundation of a bill proposed by Covington Senator Patrick McMath. The measure would give parents a path to take companies to court who they believe were negligent in children being harmed. The Republican from St. Tammany Parish says Utah passed a similar bill but his bill is designed to protect children’s mental well-being.

Congress has so far been unable to pass national privacy laws and restrictions, leaving some states to take action.

Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers women’s Basketball team beat the Iowa Hawkeyes –  earning their first NCAA national championship. Angel Reese had 15 points and ten rebounds but found herself in foul trouble during the second quarter. Reese says the team has collectively been a great support the entire season.

Senator Patrick McMath – a father of four – has filed a bill that would require children 16 and younger to have parental consent to download social media apps.  McMath says this is a step to give parents the opportunity to safeguard their children in the social media world.

The bill would also place time restrictions on when children can participate on social media platforms that have five million or more users.

The chase ended when the suspect rammed his vehicle into a deputy’s vehicle, killing 44-year-old Detective Sergeant Nicholas Pepper. The suspect is in custody.
