Speaking of the legislative session, a bill has been filed that would forbid anyone under 21 from entering a bar. Period. St. Tammany state Senator Beth Mizell brings the measure and says it’s the best way to assure persons under 21 aren’t served; accidentally or otherwise. Violations could get bar owners fines of up to $15-thousand.

For the past seven months investigations from the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Hammond Fire Department have resulted in nine arrests in seven arson cases. Several cases had been closed and recently re-opened. Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says one case – involving three suspects – is allegedly linked to two Hammond house fires and more…:

Funeral services are this morning for Sergeant Nicholas Pepper, a Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s deputy who was killed during a police chase early Sunday morning. A funeral procession will take in Thibodaux, starting around 11 AM. Pepper leaves behind a wife and three children.

In an interview on ESPN, Iowa superstar guard Caitlin Clark said she has no ill feelings toward LSU’s Angel Reese and believes she doesn’t deserve criticism for any actions from Sunday’s game. Reese was called a poor sport among other things for giving the “You Can’t See Me Hand Gesture” and pointing to her ring finger in the final moments of the national championship game.

Louisiana Oil & Gas Association founder and President-Emiritus Don Briggs – who died in his home Monday – will be laid to rest tomorrow. Current President Mike Moncla says Briggs fought for Louisiana’s oil and gas industry for more than 50 years.

Briggs founded the association in 1992 and served as the President for 26 years.

Grant Parish Representative Gabe Firment filed a measure that would ban gender reassignment surgery and transition procedures for minors in Louisiana. Firment filed a similar bill last year to ban gender-affirming healthcare for minors, but withdrew it and filed a study resolution instead. Firment says there are many complications and dangers associated with those procedures that children should not go through.

There’s a big celebration planned on the LSU campus tonight to honor the Lady Tigers basketball team that won a national championship on Sunday. Boyce Police arrested two brothers in the death of their elderly mother – who was under their care. 66-year-old James McCoy and 56-year-old Kevin Glynn, 56, were the primary caregivers of the victim, 88-year-old Ethel Glynn who died on March 21. Assistant Chief of Police, Linwood Banks says his office was contacted by the Rapides Parish Coroner’s office on March 22 to investigate her death.

Two siblings have been arrested in the death of their elderly mother in Rapides Parish. 88-year-old Ethel Glynn who died on March 21 lived with her sons – 66-year-old James McCoy and 56-year-old Kevin Glynn at a home on Galway Street in Boyce. Assistant Chief of Police, Linwood Banks says this is an unfortunate situation for the family.

Representative Barry Ivey has filed legislation that would require high school students to receive instruction on the importance of being an organ donor. Ivey says his bill would require public and charter school students to get at least 30 minutes of classroom instruction. The Republican lawmaker says the instruction would be done with the cooperation of private organ donation entities, like the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency…:

Ivey says the bill was requested by a constituent, who lost her daughter, Allie Raines, in a fatal car accident in 2021.

Congressman Troy Carter supports the LSU Lady Tigers are the indisputable winners of the championship and Iowa should not have to accompany them on their visit.  First Lady Jill Biden stated she would tell President Biden to invite the Iowa women’s team because they played a good game. Carter says her remark was an unintentional slight to the ladies of LSU.

Biden later retracted her statement but President Biden said in a tweet that he looks forward to seeing LSU and UCONN men’s basketball champion at the White House.

A bill that would allow public schools to have armed protection officers on site has been filed by an Ascension lawmaker. The bill is in response to the number of mass shootings nationwide. Gonzales Senator Eddie Lambert says this is not a mandate.

Lambert’s bill will come up when the legislature convenes next week. He says he sees no good reason to oppose it.

Lambert says the bill would allow for off-duty officers to serve as school protection officers, but also would permit school faculty and staff to conceal provided they get the proper Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) certification …:
