Grambling released a statement on the firing of Lucas saying the move was the result of an internal investigation. Lucas issued a statement saying she’s working with an attorney to get her side of the story out there.

LSU centerfielder Dylan Crews and first baseman Tre’ Morgan have been named to the final 26-man US Collegiate National Team Roster. LSU is one of five schools with two players on the team.

LSU Football got another big commitment this week. This time for the 2024 class by Xavier Atkins, an elite 3-star linebacker out of Jonesboro, Louisiana. He’s the number 6 player in the state and had previously committed to Missouri before flipping to LSU.

Hunters will soon be able to get a better idea of Louisiana’s turkey population as the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announces a survey with an online component for the public to help get a good count. Wild Turkey Program Manager Cody Cedotal says whether you are sitting on your back porch in October, in your deer stand in December, turkey hunting in April or making a round through your property in August if you see wild turkeys, they’d like to know about it.

Attorney General Jeff Landry is petitioning the state supreme court to remove the temporary restraining order that was issued against the state’s trigger abortion laws. Loyola University Law Professor Dan Ciolino says this is unusual because a hearing is scheduled for Friday in a civil court on the restraining order…:

The restraining order filed by The Center for Reproductive Rights claims the trigger laws were vague and unconstitutional.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says around 244-thousand Louisiana workers quit their jobs in the first four months this year, 16-percent more than those who quit during the same period in 2021. But Economist Loren Scott says the numbers can be misleading:

He says that evidenced by Louisiana’s record low 4% unemployment rate.

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says new Catastrophe Reform laws will enhance protections for policyholders and help rebuild the insurance market in Louisiana. Donelon says one new law requires all insurance carriers to up their cash reserves to cover storm claims; from $3-million to $10-million….:

Several insurance carriers have quit business in the state due to insolvency. Donelon says the new laws should help homeowners with current and future damage claims and improve then state’s overall insurance environment.

Today’s check on gas prices: the statewide average for a gallon of regular fell another 2 cents overnight to $4.33; down almost a dime from the prior week. The same trend is being seen nationally and AAA says the primary reason is lower demand at the pump, but that could end with the arrival of the summer driving season.

The Lafayette Police Department is seeking information regarding the death of a Baton Rouge man who was found lying in the road unresponsive early Monday. The man is identified as 37-year-old Christopher Smith. Cause of death is not known, but if you know anything about this incident, please call Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 337-232-TIPS.

The LSU football team added three verbal commitments on the 4th of July, changing the tone of the 2023 class. Two announcements were made early in the day by four-star defensive lineman Darron Reed, and three-star cornerback Ashton Stamps. Later, 4-star defensive lineman Dashawn Womack joined the group. This moves LSU’s 2023 commits to 11 so far this cycle, and with Monday’s announcements the class now ranks 15th nationally.

The New Orleans Pelicans continue practice ahead of the 2022 NBA Las Vegas Summer League, which begins Thursday. No. 8 overall draft pick Dyson Daniels joined the Pels in their first team practice session. New Orleans opens their summer slate against the Portland Trail Blazers on July 9th.

Former LSU star Wide Receiver  Odell Beckham Jr. has made a startling tweet when reflecting on the 2021 Super Bowl champion run, indicating he played the entire back half of the season for the Rams without an ACL. Beckham remains a free agent after undergoing knee surgery in the offseason.

Service members supported community-based testing sites at multiple locations throughout the state and conducted more than 636,000 tests.

Authorities in Livingston Parish report a woman’s body was recovered after she reportedly fell off a boat into Blind River and then was hit by another boat on July 4th. Crews were out searching for the woman and reported they made the discovery of her body by using side scan sonar units. More on this as it develops.

The Secretary of State has filed a 51 page motion through the attorney general’s office asking the US Supreme Court to give lawmakers more time to create a second majority Black congressional district. The deadline is Monday. House Speaker Clay Schexnayder says the map also has to be approved by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals:

The legislature advanced one redistricting bill Friday that could comply with the court order and it heads to the Senate Floor for more discussion then it goes to the House.

Governor John Bel Edwards announces he will send Louisiana State Police troopers and Department of Corrections officers to help with a staffing shortage at the Bridge City Center for Youth and Swanson Center for Youth in Monroe Louisiana. Edwards says correctional and probation, and parole officers from the DOC and LSP will secure the perimeter of the facilities to prevent further escaping of inmates.

Tomorrow is Father’s Day and Wallethub has released a survey which shows Louisiana is the worst state in the country for working dads. Spokeswoman Jill Gonzales says Louisiana could start enacting policies more friendly to fathers…:

Nearly the entire state is under a heat advisory this weekend with forecast highs in the mid to upper 90s, and a heat index that could top 110 degrees as it did last week. Rain chances are minimal.

Governor John Bel Edwards has announced there will be increased security starting immediately at the Bridge City Juvenile Detention Center in Jefferson Parish to avoid anymore inmates escaping or overtaking those in command. The troubled facility had 5 juveniles escape last week, then SWAT had to be brought in Thursday night as guards had lost control of the center. The escaped juveniles are all back in custody. Edwards also announced the increased security by State Police at the Swanson Center for Youth in Monroe.

Lt. Col. Doug Cain has abruptly retired from State Police as the investigation into the in-custody fatal arrest of Ronald Greene sought to learn why Cain had his state issued cell phone wiped. State Police said Cain’s request for retirement was submitted but has yet to be finalized.

Lt. Col. Doug Cain, the second-in-command at Louisiana State Police, has retired amid the Ronald Greene death investigation. Cain had been questioned by a group of lawmakers charged with looking into a possible coverup into Greene’s death and why his cell phone was wiped clean. Cain had been on paid leave since April.
