The governor’s communications director Lauren Leist says the state has created nearly 200-thousand jobs since the worst of the pandemic and many people filling those jobs are recent college grads. The Caddo Parish Sherriff’s Office says a substitute PE teacher has been arrested for allegedly encouraging students to commit battery and bully a classmate. They say it happened at North Caddo Elementary when 24-year-old Aadrina Smith is reported to have offered to pay 5 different students 5 dollars to tackle their classmate, then sat back and watched while it happened. Smith is booked on five counts of contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and malfeasance in office.

The meeting is the result of a resolution passed this spring by Mandeville Republican Rep. Richard Nelson. He says he hopes lawmakers can get to “the root of some fundamental problems” within the tax structure…:

A fired State Trooper charged with shooting a 19 year old in the back during a traffic stop in 2018 has pleaded guilty to a charge of obstruction of justice, a misdemeanor which keeps her out of prison in a plea deal. Kasha Domingue was indicted on charges of illegal use of a weapon and aggravated second-degree battery. A federal lawsuit alleged Domingue shot Clifton Dilley in the back leaving him paralyzed.

LSU football coach Brian Kelly says the Tigers need a better week of preparation to defeat Mississippi State this Saturday in Baton Rouge. The Bulldogs are 2-0, with wins over Memphis and Arizona and State’s air raid offense is averaging 385 passing yards, fifth best in the nation. Kelly says his defensive players will need to execute their assignments…:

This will be Kelly’s first SEC game, but he doesn’t feel like he’s behind the other coaches in the league when it comes to familiarity.

LSU officials say they are working on issues that spawned the massive traffic backup before and after Saturday’s game versus Southern. They say it was difficult to prepare for two fan bases from the same city coming onto campus at one time to watch the historic matchup, but, while you can still expect traffic, things should be better moving forward.

There are plenty of corrections to be made following the Saints come from behind 27-26 win over the Atlanta Falcons. New Orleans Coach Dennis Allen is not happy that the Dirty Birds rushed for 201 yards. Allen says that’s not the Black and Gold standard…:

ESPN reports the New Orleans Pelicans signed Izaiah Brockington to a two way deal Monday. New Orleans’ training camp begins in two weeks and the Pels first preseason game is October 4th against the Bulls.

The U.S Marshals Office Eastern District of Louisiana New Orleans announces operation “Summer Knights” has led to the recovery of fourteen missing endangered teens. One additional child was located, and eight arrests were made. Senior inspector Brian Fair says one suspect was associated with a 16-year-old runaway…:

A new report from the Heritage Foundation ranks Louisiana among the Top Ten states for “Educational Freedom.” State Education Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley says Louisiana’s Number 9 ranking is good, but there’s more progress to be made:

They say some of the problems were related to the historic turnout where two fan bases from the same city were trying to get on campus at one time.

The Biden Administration’s student debt forgiveness plan could be challenged in court. Loyola University Law Professor Dane Ciolino says the White House’s rationale for canceling student debt is based on the 2003 Heroes Act passed by congress that granted loan forgiveness if an individual experiences a natural disaster or is off fighting a war.

The statistical peak of the hurricane season is this week, but still no tropical threats to the Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring four systems, two of them are named storms. Hurricane Danielle and Tropical Storm Earl are in the Atlantic far from land.

Usually after Labor Day, political races heat up and campaign ads start popping up on the radio, TV and social media. But political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says this year will be quiet, because there’s not a heated Congressional or US race. But he says next year will be a different story as all statewide offices are up for grabs…

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the person accused of stabbing a deputy after breaking into a bank in Moss Bluff. They say 45-year-old Angela Rachelle Bertrand of Lake Charles was booked Monday on numerous charges. The deputy involved only received minor injuries in the incident.

DCFS has recently faced criticism over issues taking place within its child welfare division, and a Senate Committee is meeting this morning to discuss what’s going on. Health and Welfare Chairman Senator Fred Mills says they’ll also review personnel to see if Secretary Marketa Garner Walters’ statements of staffing shortages are a contributing factor.

State Police say they are investigating an officer involved shooting in which a Houma cop reportedly shot one subject overnight. They say that individual was transported to a hospital with injuries. Investigators say no law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident and this is an active investigation.

State Police report they are investigating an officer involved shooting within the Houma Police Department. LSP posted on social media the shooting took place early this morning in Terrebonne Parish and one subject was transported to a hospital due to their injuries. No word on if the officer was the one injured. Troopers say this is an active investigation.

Former New Orleans Mayor Moon Landrieu has passed away at the age of 92. The political family patriarch served as the city’s 56th mayor from 1970 to 1978. Analyst Clancy Dubos says Landrieu transformed New Orleans economically…:

Landrieu had 9 children including Mitch who also served as Mayor of New Orleans, and Mary who served three terms as US Senator.

State Corrections Secretary Jimmy LeBlanc comments on the multiple escapes of juveniles from detention centers this year — and more violent crimes being committed by teenagers…:
