A team of government and university experts published a report that concluded climate change contributed to the weather event that produced more than 30 inches of rain in south Louisiana. But state climatologist Barry Keim says what happened last month is not enough to tell us anything about climate change.

PJ’s Coffee is expanding internationally into Vietnam. Chief Development Officer for Ballard Brands, PJ’s parent company, David Mesa, says they are on the heels of launching a coffee house in Malaysia as well, and are excited to give other countries the chance to taste Louisiana coffee.

Mandeville Police have made another arrest in connection with the rape of a female resident at a memory care facility. Last week 58-year-old Jerry Kan was arrested for first degree rape of a 78-year-old resident at Beau Provence, and Officer Becky White says 55-year-old Julie Henry had evidence of the incident.

White says Henry also failed to report the rape after she was informed about it by the staff.

LSU football fans will not see Mike the Tiger out on the field during home games this season. Ginger Guttner with the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine says Mike will stay in his habitat on game days because of health concerns after he was treated for cancer in June. But she says fans will still be able to see the live mascot.

Detectives have released surveillance pictures of three men who stole thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise from a store during the historic floods in August. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the group looted the Walmart on O’Neal Lane on August 14. They added the thieves got away with more than $34,000 in items. Anyone with information about the break-in or the identities of the suspects is urged to call Crime Stoppers.

LSU’s live tiger mascot will stay in his habitat during home games this season. Mike VI has never been forced to be part of pre-game events, and in light of his recent cancer diagnosis, officials will not attempt to load Mike into his trailer during the current football season. Researchers say the 1,000-year flood that devastated south Louisiana last month may have been intensified by climate change. State climatologist Barry Keim did not participate in this report, but says there are some consistencies between the massive rain event and climate change. He says in a warmer world, the atmosphere would be able to produce bigger storms.:

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office says they are looking for three black males who looted the Wal Mart on O’Neal Lane in Baton Rouge while wading through waste deep flood water. They say the subjects entered the store where they forced entry into several locked cases within the jewelry and electronics departments stealing multiple items. Total theft during this incident is in excess of $34,000.00. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact authorities.

A second arrest has been made in the case of the elderly woman who was allegedly raped at a nursing home in Metairie. Police spokeswoman Becky White says 55-year-old Julie Henry was the Associate Program Director at Beau Provence and is accused of knowing about the incident…:

Henry was arrested for failure to report abuse of adults and obstruction of justice. 58-year-old Jerry Kan allegedly raped a 78-year-old resident.

An Albertson’s in Bossier City is coming under fire over a social media post indicating the bakery there refused to write “Trump 2016” on a birthday cake. McKenzie Gill told KSLA that the theme for her 18th birthday party is Donald Trump for President and she was surprised the Albertson’s employee said she wouldn’t put the candidate’s name on the cake. A spokesperson for the chain apologized and said the staff was confused about copyrighted phrases.

Governor John Bel Edwards announced the new developments at the Baton Rouge Community College, Central Louisiana Technical Community College in Alexandria and Delgado in New Orleans. He says these new facilities will provide training in various areas like welding, automotive technology, construction, manufacturing, and information technology. Today Edwards will visit BRCC to highlight the state-of-the-art collision repair training and technology center.

The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine says they are not going to try to put Mike the Tiger in his trailer for home games in the upcoming season. They say they have never forced Mike VI to go to Tiger Stadium, and due to his recent cancer diagnosis they are just going to keep him in his habitat for fans to enjoy on game day.

The delivery came on the students’ first day back in the classroom since the flood. In every classroom, Morstead was greeted by cheering students, one of them even sporting a #6 jersey. Morstead says it’s a small thing to do for each child, but he hopes it motivates the students to have a good school year.

Morstead says 50 volunteers rode on the bus from New Orleans to Baton Rouge to hand out the supplies. A total of 6,000 backpacks will be distributed to students throughout East Baton Rouge parish. The veteran NFL player says he’s glad to help the students, but he was most moved by seeing the number of volunteers who turned out to help deliver the backpacks.
