FEMA announces an extended deadline for Louisiana National Flood insurance Program policyholders affected by the August floods to file proof-of-loss claims. You now have 120 days from the date of your loss to file a flood insurance claim if you’re a Louisiana NFIP policyholder.

LSU Football Coach Les Miles is not ready to say to the public who will start at quarterback this Saturday against Mississippi State. He did say that they’ll need both quarterbacks, Brandon Harris and Danny Etling, to play in every game.

The team will be wearing throwback “Gridiron Gold” uniforms for Saturday’s game against The Bulldogs in Tiger Stadium. Miles said Monday that the new unis are part of LSU’s annual Gold Game, and they will feature the Old Gold jerseys with the same color LSU wore in the 1940s. The throwback uniforms will also include a vintage block “L” logo on right hip of the pants.

In the Louisiana Sports Writers Association honors, The Offensive Player of the Week is Louisiana Tech wide receiver Trent Taylor. He caught 11 passes for a career-high 178 yards and three touchdowns in a win over South Carolina State.

The LSWA Defensive Player of the Week honor goes to Nicholls State lineman Kenny Dotson. He forced a fumble that led to The Colonels first touchdown in a near win for Nicholls at Georgia.

The Special Teams Player of the Week is LSU’s Tre’Davious White. He had a winding, 60 yard punt return for a touchdown in the Tigers’ win over Jacksonville State.

Saints Coach Sean Payton told WWL-Radio in New Orleans that he felt the team did all the things they needed to in the first half of the disappointing loss to the Raiders, but fell apart in the 3rd and 4th quarters…:

Edwards says the extra money will go towards flood control projects, instead of requiring flood victims to elevate their homes:

Fayard is one of two well-known Democrats in the 24-person race. The other is Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell, who has the endorsement of Governor John Bel Edwards. Political analyst Clancy Dubos says splitting big name endorsements will make it harder for one of these candidates to make it in the runoff.

Republican Congressman Ralph Abraham of Richland Parish met with White House officials in an attempt to get more federal support for the March flooding recovery efforts in north Louisiana.

President Obama has only agreed to increase the feds’ cost-share for the August flood. Abraham says between the two floods, 22 of the 24 parishes in his district were declared federal disaster areas. He says he sent a personal letter to the president explaining that the road to recovery is long in both north and south Louisiana, and the state needs more assistance from the federal government.

Governor John Bel Edwards will be in Washington tomorrow. The governor’s total request for both floods is two-point-eight billion dollars. Abraham says that request includes assistance for March flood victims who are rebuilding their homes and he’s talking with Congressional leaders about that need.

Delta Regional Authority announces they will invest $72 million in Louisiana to strengthen infrastructure, prepare for disasters, build the workforce, and support small businesses. Federal Co-chairman Chris Masingill says they are investing $275-thousand for two water pumps in Assumption parish. He says the water pump near Paincourtville was damaged by the tornado in February, leaving many residents without clean water.

Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden is facing scrutiny after being in Taiwan last week instead of speaking before Congress alongside the mayors of the flood ravaged cities of Central, Denham Springs and Walker. Holden says some candidates for Baton Rouge mayor are attacking his lack of presence during this difficult time. But he says Baton Rouge isn’t going to fall apart because there is communication between his staffers and everyone is working together.

A Baton Rouge woman has been arrested after accidentally killing her boyfriend during an argument. Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Don Coppola says 25-year-old Larriana Hughes shot her boyfriend, 27-year-old Christopher Payne, while trying to put a gun away. He says Huges sustained minor injuries during the dispute before she was arrested.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating a fatal boat crash in St. Mary Parish which took the life of a 7-year-old. LDWF Spokesperson Adam Einck says yesterday a bass boat collided with an aluminum vessel in Bayou Cheramie causing Jaidyn Montet to hit her head. He says this is devastating.

The driver of the aluminum boat has taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating a boat crash in St. Mary Parish that claimed the life of a 7-year-old girl. LDWF Spokesman Adam Einck says the collision was between two boats and they are going to try to recreate the incident to determine if anyone was at fault:

Governor John Bel Edwards will be heading back to Washington, DC this week where he is scheduled to meet with more congressional leaders and others regarding getting more money to Louisiana for flood recovery. He sent another letter to the White House asking for an additional $800 million dollars, on top of the $2 billion he was originally seeking. He says the new amount is for infrastructure projects and mental health support for flood victims.

AAA says the switch to winter blend gasoline has caused gas prices to fall nationwide for 12 straight days. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular in Louisiana is now $2.00, down about 4 cents from the prior week.

A Baton Rouge woman is behind bars after she allegedly accidentally shot and killed her boyfriend during an argument. That’s according to Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Don Coppola, who says 25-year-old Larriana Hughes came home to 27-year-old Christopher Payne, after receiving a text from him. Coppola says they began to argue, and the woman reported her boyfriend began slapping Hughes in the face…:

The Coast Guard continues to respond to the oil spill near Bay Long, as more than 6,000 gallons of oily-water mixture have been recovered.

The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Ian has formed in the Atlantic Ocean, but it is not projected to threaten land at all at this time. They are watching another disturbance near the Bahamas that is not expected to develop into a tropical system.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating a boat crash in St. Mary Parish that claimed the life of a 7-year-old girl. LDWF Spokesperson Adam Einck says at around 2 p.m. yesterday a bass boat with one passenger, collided with an aluminum vessel carrying four people in Bayou Cheramie. He says the collision caused Jaidyn Montet (Mon-tay) to hit her head:

Students in Livingston Parish are back in school today after being out for nearly a month while flood damage was being addressed. Superintendent Rick Wentzel says some schools were a total loss and students at those locations are sharing time with other while construction continues…:

He says some schools are platooning, which means students at the home school attend classes in the morning, while kids from a flood damaged school go in the afternoon.

Oyster harvesting remains closed in several areas. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is hoping the oysters grow more which is why they delayed sacking until November 15th. John Tesvich is on the Oyster Task Force. He says high water levels in the rivers are bringing more nutrient rich water into the harvesting areas and killing the oysters…:

Businesses in Louisiana suffered losses due to the historic floods to the tune of over $2 billion dollars. That’s according to Don Pierson, the Secretary of Louisiana Economic Development. He says FEMA has surpassed $1 billion dollars in total federal assistance to Louisiana disaster survivors…:

Pierson says it’s vital that employers take advantage of the assistance being provided by FEMA and the Small Business Administration, and get their case in prior to October 13th.

The Saints had a heartbreaking loss to Oakland on Sunday. The Black and Gold couldn’t hang on to a two touchdown lead and fell to the Raiders 35-34. New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees threw for 423 yards and 4 touchdowns, but the defense gave up numerous big plays in the 4th quarter to allow Oakland to score 22 points near the end of the game.

Students in Livingston Parish are headed back to school today, some this morning and some head out this afternoon. 6 schools were unable to open due to flood damage and are sharing space at other locations. He says a timeline on when the closed schools will reopen is unknown at this time, but the goal is as soon as possible.

Governor John Bel Edwards along with the Delta Regional Authority are set this morning to unveil a series of new economic investments coming to Louisiana, according to a release from the DRA. The group is a federal-state partnership created by Congress in 2000 to help create jobs, build communities, and improve lives through strategic investments in economic development in 252 counties and parishes across eight states.
