The Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association is hailing the Trump administration’s draft proposal for a new five-year oil and gas exploration plan. Andrew Greenstein reports.

A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board provides new details in a plane crash that killed a top corrections official near Ruston last month.  According to the report, the pilot 64-year-old Rodney Cooper, reported having problems with the plane’s auto pilot as he was trying to land.  Cooper, who was executive director of LaSalle Corrections, was flying  from Huntsville, Texas, when he crashed less than three miles from the Ruston airport.

It’s just a formality now, but the LSU Board of Supervisors is moving to authorize new President Wade Rousse to fire football coach Brian Kelly. The board made that move during a meeting in response to a lawsuit Kelly filed against the school. Board Chair Scott Ballard announced the unanimous passage of Carmouche’s motion.

Meanwhile Ole Miss athletics director Keith Carter announced Lane Kiffin is focused on winning Friday’s Egg Bowl against Mississippi State and an announcement about the coach’s future at Ole Miss will be made on Saturday.

Drew Brees will be on the call for FOX for Sunday’s Falcons and Saints game. Brees says no matter how poorly both teams are doing, the NFC South rivalry between New Orleans and Atlanta will continue to remain strong.

It’s a mere formality at this point, but the LSU Board of Supervisors is moving to authorize new President Wade Rousse to fire football coach Brian Kelly. The board made that move during a special called meeting in response to a lawsuit Kelly filed against the school. Following an executive session that lasted almost an hour, John Carmouche made the motion in open session.

Ole Miss athletics director Keith Carter says an announcement on Lane Kiffin’s future at Ole Miss will be made AFTER next Friday’s Egg Bowl against Mississippi State. On3.comis reporting that Ole Miss, LSU and Florida are all set to offer Kiffin 13-million a year. Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports is reporting that LSU’s total contract package is worth nearly 90-million dollars. The deal reportedly includes 35 million plus in roster cash.

Former Saints quarterback Drew Brees will be back in New Orleans this weekend for the Saints game against the Falcons — but not just to watch the game. Andre Champagne has more.

SEC fans’ week of waiting on the Lane Kiffin sweepstakes will continue. Ole Miss Athletics Director Keith Carter announced a decision regarding their head coach’s future will come next Saturday following the Rebels’ Egg Bowl matchup with Mississippi State Friday. Carter and Kiffin met earlier today and agreed to focus on closing out their current 10-and-1 regular season campaign. Ole Miss was previously rumored to want a decision from Kiffin before the Egg Bowl, and if he were to leave Oxford, he would not coach the sixth-ranked Rebels during their likely College Football Playoff run.

The LSU Board of supervisors authorized new University President Wade Rousse to formally fire Brian Kelly. Board Chair Scott Ballard announced the motion’s unanimous approval.

The second round of the Louisiana high school playoffs kick off tonight. In Division Two, the Franklin Parish Patriots host the Lutcher Bulldogs. Spencer Verrett of the LHSAA Network says he could see either team making a run, but he expects the Patriots to come out on top.

Last year the Patriots’ season ended in the quarterfinals, losing 42-28 to Iowa.

Louisiana Tech is down to two quarterbacks after sophomore Evan Bullock exited last week’s game with an upper-body injury in the 28-3 loss to Washington State. Junior Trey Kukuk (Q-kuhk) will be the starter for this week’s game against Liberty, and head coach Sonny Cumbie says the entire offense will have to elevate its play.

The Pet Overpopulation Advisory Council has raised over $24,000 to divide among 26 vet clinics and spay-neuter providers across the state. They’ve done so through the sale of special Animal Friendly license plates designed, manufactured, and sold by the DMV. The plates cost about $50 more than a standard one, but Council chairman Jeff Dorson says that surcharge goes directly to their cause.

Saints Legend Drew Brees will return to the Superdome Sunday with a much different view than he’s used to. Brees will be in the press box calling the FOX broadcast of the matchup between the Saints and Falcons. He says he was impressed by rookie quarterback Tyler Shough in his first two starts and looks forward to seeing him face off against the Dirty Birds.

Although Stephen F Austin claimed a Southland Conference title on Saturday, the Southeastern Lions are still in the hunt for an FCS playoff spot after their 10-7 win over Incarnate Word. Coach Frank Scelfo says it was a great way to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Lamar.

The 8-and-3 Lions will host Nicholls in the River Bell Classic Thursday. The Colonels won their final home game of the season over Northwestern State Saturday behind running back Shane Lee’s career-high 134 rushing yards. First-year head coach Tommy Rybacki says they found a way to win.

ULM suffered its sixth straight loss Saturday after blowing an early 14-nothing lead over South Alabama. After a 3-and-1 start, Warhawks coach Bryant Vincent says they keep beating themselves.

The Warhawks will visit Texas St for their final Sun Belt clash Saturday.

The fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team will head to New Orleans tonight to take on Tulane at 6:00. The Green Wave have started 2-and-1 on the season, with their lone loss coming by just eight against Missouri. The Lady Tigers will look to continue their undefeated 4-and-0 start.

The Pelicans will host the defending champion Thunder tonight at 7:00. Interim Head Coach James Borrego will look to earn his first win leading the Pels after losing his debut 124-106 against the Warriors last night.

This year’s LSU roster features a secondary with four incoming four-star transfer defensive backs, along with returning corners Ashton Stamps and PJ Woodland. Add in five-star freshman corner D.J. Pickett and five returning safeties, and head coach Brian Kelly says playing time becomes the ultimate motivator.

The LSU Women’s basketball team announced its schedule today. It includes a Thanksgiving tournament in the U.S. Virgin Islands and a road trip to face Duke in the ACC/SEC challenge. The Lady Tigers will face each SEC team once, except for Texas who they face twice. LSU will play a regular-season conference Saturday game for the first time since 2005 against South Carolina on Valentine’s Day.

ULM announced head football coach Bryant Vincent will be named the interim Athletic Director following the surprise resignation of John Hartwell. Vincent was perhaps Hartwell’s most notable hire and is rebuilding the Warhawk football program. He started 5-and-1 last season before losing the last six and missing out on a bowl game.

The Saints are packing up and heading to California tomorrow. In their eleventh practice today, Spencer Rattler became the first QB to get starting reps in back-to-back practices. Tyler Shough also saw some action with the first team, but Locked On Saints podcast host Ross Jackson thinks Rattler is leading the pack.

Head coach Kellen Moore said no decision has been made on the starter for Sunday’s preseason opener versus the Chargers. He did confirm running back Alvin Kamara won’t take the field, and rookie running back Devin Neal will be sidelined a couple weeks with a hamstring injury.

South Florida transfer defensive lineman Bernard Gooden has been one of the early standouts of LSU’s fall camp. Gooden received All-AAC honors after totaling 35 tackles, 10 TFL’s and one and a half sacks in 13 games last season. Kelly says his performance has elevated the defense.

Southern quarterback Jalen Woods is the Jaguars’ lone returning quarterback, but the coaching staff says he still doesn’t have the job locked up. Woods won his two starts as a redshirt freshman last season, but he’s in a QB battle with Jackson State transfer Cam’Ron McCoy and freshman Dillon Compton. Woods is the favorite to earn the starting spot but head coach Terrence Graves says he has to earn it.

The Louisiana Tech defense is coming together under new coordinator Luke Olson. Olson led a Jacksonville State defense that was second in the conference in takeaways last season, and cornerback Cedric Woods says he’s brought that same mentality to Ruston.

ULM Athletic Director John Hartwell announced a shocking resignation yesterday after just 18 months in Monroe. Sports Talk West Monroe Sports Director Sean Fox says it’s unknown whether he and new university president Dr. Carrie Castille had a falling out.

West Carroll is representing Louisiana at this year’s Diamond Youth Baseball Division One Majors World Series in Lexington, South Carolina. West Carroll has a quarterfinal game against South Carolina tonight.

LSU was ranked ninth in the US LBM preseason Coaches Poll. Head coach Brian Kelly has seen a motivated group of players, especially in the trenches. He says ongoing position battles and a competitive culture make for great practices.

Clemson, the Tigers’ week one opponent, ranked sixth. Texas took home the top-ranked spot, while Georgia at four and Alabama at eight joined LSU as the four SEC schools in the top ten.

Wide Receiver Aaron Anderson has missed most of fall camp with nagging knee inflammation stemming from his time at Alabama. Kelly said he felt good today and should return to the practice field Wednesday.

Ju’Juan Johnson was a record-breaking quarterback at Lafayette Christian. He started at LSU as a defensive back, but moved to running back during his freshman season. He took snaps at quarterback in the spring but has seen reps at running back and even wide receiver in fall camp. Offensive tackle Tyree Adams believes Johnson can be a playmaker for the offense…

The Louisiana Tech defense is picking up the pieces of one of the nation’s best units from a season ago. Coordinator Jermiah Johnson was lured to Coastal Carolina, and the Bulldogs are finding a new identity under former Jax State defensive coordinator Luke Olson. Returning cornerback Cedric Woods says they’re focused on 2025.

ULM Athletic Director John Hartwell announced his resignation today after just 18 months on the job. Rumors swirled that the Alabama-native had his eyes set on the vacant AD position at the University of Troy, but AL.com reports that narrative is unfounded, and his resignation was due to budgetary concerns.

Bankrate has found Louisiana is home to some of the coldest housing markets in the nation. Shreveport and New Orleans are among the frostiest for the size of their markets. Bankrate data analyst Alex Gailey credits high homeowners’ insurance rates as one reason why selling a home in the Bayou State is no easy task.

The Gulf of America dead zone is roughly the size of Connecticut this year. While only slightly above the typical average, LSU Oceanography Professor Nancy Rabalais says that’s still large. She says the zone is an area of low to no oxygen, unable to support marine life, caused by excess nutrients making their way off land and into the Gulf.

LSU is less than a month away from its season opener against Clemson. The Tigers are looking for their first win in week one since the Joe Burrow-led 2019 Tigers. Defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory has been at LSU since 2020 and wants to start 1-0….

ESPN currently has Clemson as a 3-and-a-half-point favorite at home.

LSU received another top defensive line commitment from four-star Deuce Geralds. The Collins Hill product is a top ten-ranked prospect in the state of Georgia but says he grew up in Baton Rouge and dreamed of playing for the Tigers.

After a 126-play game simulation scrimmage yesterday, the Saints will have a well-deserved day off from practice today. While quarterbacks Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough both showed flashes in reps with the first team, it was the defense that won the day with two interceptions, multiple sacks and a turnover on downs. New Orleans will return for their final practice on Airline tomorrow before flying out to California ahead of their first preseason game against the Chargers Sunday.

As UL-Lafayette prepares for the 2025 season, the Cajuns will rely on a dynamic running back duo of sophomore Bill Davis and junior Zylon Perry. The tandem posted nearly 800 and 700 rushing yards last year, respectively, and head coach Michael Desormeaux says he expects improvement this season.
