New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has reinstituted a mask mandate for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals when indoors.

The 300-dollar weekly enhanced federal unemployment benefits will come to an at the end of the month. That’s the result of legislation approved by lawmakers during the session. Louisiana Workforce Commission Secretary Ava Cates says in exchange for the premature end of the federally boosted payments, starting next year weekly state unemployment benefits will increase 28 dollars to a 275 dollar weekly maximum.

S-E-C Media Days in Birmingham received a charge of energy with the Houston Chronicle’s report that Texas and Oklahoma have reached out to the Southeastern Conference about joining the S-E-C. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey would not confirm or deny the report. Texas and Oklahoma officials are also not saying anything. Texas A-and-M athletics director Ross Bjork says they want to be the only SEC program in Texas.

Vaccinations, N-I-L, and college football playoff expansion have been big topics at S-E-C Media Days. Mississippi State Coach Mike Leach supports a proposed 12-team playoff and supports even more teams than that…

The Houston Chronicle Reports Texas and Oklahoma have reportedly reached out to the Southeastern Conference about leaving the Big 12 for the SEC. The newspaper says an announcement could come within a couple of weeks. Texas A-and-M athletic director Ross Bjork told Sports Illustrated they want to be the only school from Texas in the SEC.

Senior offensive tackle Austin Deculus has been at LSU for quite some time and is adjusting to new O-line coach Brad Davis after playing under James Cregg for the past few seasons. Deculus thinks coach Davis is a great fit in Baton Rouge

A 17-year-old drown Tuesday after he was thrown from a horse in a retention pond. St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says Jacory Levier (Leave-ee-a) was on the horse when he led the horse into the pond.

Guidroz says they received a call shortly before six last night about a possible drowning at the retention pond near Beau Chene High School in the Grand Coteau area.

Six Louisianans have been arrested by the Attorney General’s Office for allegedly defrauding California out of a million dollars in unemployment benefits.

Louisiana Bureau of Investigations Special Agent Ernest Green says the scheme was based around filing fraudulent online claims with the nation’s largest state during the early days of the pandemic.

Green says the six suspects, who live across Southeast Louisiana, were stealing money and wasting precious resources at a time when people needed them most.

UL-Lafayette has launched their ‘Don’t Wait. Vaccinate!” incentive program in an effort to make a return to campus as safe as possible for students and staff. Dean of Students Dr. Margarita Perez says they will hold a drawing and give away 10 prizes to fully vaccinated students.

Prizes include iPhones, MacBook Airs, and free campus parking. Perez says they have put a lot of thought into the campaign and wanted to offer incentives that appealed to students.

Perez says UL-Lafayette is one of eight schools in the state taking part in the White House and CDC’s COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge to educate staff and students about COVID, vaccines, and offer access to vaccinations.

There is not enough support in the Louisiana Senate to override Governor Edwarsds’ veto of a bill that would allow for adults to conceal carry a gun without a permit. The effort needed 26 votes and 23 Senators voted for the override. Norco’s Gary Smith was the lone Democratic Senator to vote in favor during the regular session, but he says he changed his mind after thinking about his own experience as an avid gun collector.

While lawmakers are poised to override Governor Edwards’s veto of a transgender sports bill, an effort to override his veto of a permitless conceal carry bill has failed in the Senate after several lawmakers voted against the override effort, after voting for the legislation during the regular session.
