44-year-old Tom Brady looked as good as ever last night as he led Tampa Bay to a 31-29 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Brady threw for four touchdown passes and 379 yards. Former Haughton standout Dak Prescott also played well in his return from a dislocated ankle in 2020. The Cowboys quarterback threw for 403 yards and a touchdown.

The LSU Board of Supervisors will vote today on whether the court inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center should be named after former LSU coach Dale Brown.

Don’t forget you’ll need to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours before kick-off in order to get into Tiger Stadium tomorrow night for the LSU-McNeese game. LSU will have 12 pre-verification sites on campus to help ease congestion into the stadium. Islamic extremists crashed two planes into the World Trade Center in New York, and one jet into the Pentagon in Washington, DC. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting the Saints are sending a 2022 third-round pick and a conditional pick in 2023 to Houston in a deal that will bring cornerback Bradley Roby to New Orleans. Roby is a seven-year NFL vet with ten career interceptions and he’s entering the second year of a three-year contract. He’ll miss Sunday’s season opener against Green Bay as he’s finishing a multi-game suspension for taking a banned substance.

The Saints will soon make their way to Jacksonville, the host site for their season opener. Wide receiver Marquez Callaway believes the re-location to Fort Worth, Texas has helped the team…

Running back Tre Bradford is back with the Tigers. He left LSU this summer and transferred to Oklahoma, but re-entered the transfer portal two weeks ago and now he’s back in Baton Rouge.

The Ragin Cajuns Athletics Department has received a seven-figure gift from MacLaff Incorporated that will go towards the renovation of Cajun field. The gift also secures the naming rights for the Victory Bell Tower in the south end zone. Maclaff Inc owns several McDonald’s in south Louisiana.

Southeastern Louisiana’s home game on September 25th versus Northwestern State has been moved to November 13th because of hurricane damage to Strawberry Stadium

The American Red Cross is aiding with hurricane recovery. Brooke Thorington has more from the leader of the humanitarian organization.

Entergy is reporting more progress in restoring power to the tens of thousands who lost it during Hurricane Ida.  Here’s Dave Brannen with an update.

The American Red Cross is aiding in areas of the state that were heavily impacted by Hurricane Ida. President and CEO Gail McGovern has visited southeast Louisiana herself and seen the widespread devastation. She says they are providing a number of services.

McGovern says at the height of providing shelter, the Red Cross assisted up to forty thousand people.

The Red Cross is also distributing cleaning supplies to help those who are able to return to their homes and she says more than ninety-five thousand supplies have been given out. The Red Cross also has 80 feeding trucks in the state and they serve approximately sixty-thousand meals a day.

McGovern says they are even providing counseling for residents to meet their mental needs also.

Despite the fact that the country has been impacted by numerous disasters during the ongoing pandemic from wildfires, floods, and hurricanes McGovern says they are fortunate the public is still engaged with donations to assist, and ninety percent of their workforce consist of volunteers.

McGovern says shelters will remain open until everyone is situated.

Congressman Steve Scalise says Louisiana’s congressional delegation is on board with likely getting a separate funding package passed to help Ida-ravaged Southeast and Southwest Louisiana.  He says the money needed to effect a massive repair effort will require billions of federal dollars due to the damage.

Scalise says it’s highly likely that funding for hurricane repairs shouldn’t be coupled with other infrastructure items under consideration.

Congressman Scalise, who’s had a first-hand look at the damage doled out by Ida, says he believes Ida packed 190-mile-per-hour winds when it initially came ashore in the Port Fourchon area.

Entergy Louisiana President Phillip May says the lights are back on for more of the utility’s customers.  He says power has now been restored to more than 90-percent of those who can take it in the greater New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas.

May says so far 682-thousand customers have had their power restored post-Ida of 902-thousand who were left in the dark.  The bad news is that more than 90-percent of Entergy’s customers in Lafourche, St. Charles and Terrebonne parishes still have no power.

May says that Entergy and crews from across the nation will not be resting on their successes to date in getting the power back on for nearly 700-thousand customers over the past 10 days.

Some 26-thousand linemen who converged on the state to get the power restored after Ida hit are drawing praise from Entergy New Orleans CEO Deanna Rodriquez.

Crews have restored 98-percent of the power in Orleans Parish as of today.  Customers in heavily damaged areas that include Venetian Isle, Irish Bayou and the Lake Catherine area that can accept power could have it restored by this Sunday.

A juvenile was found fatally shot outside of a home in Natchitoches this morning. Natchitoches Police Corporal John Greely says officers responded to the scene on Highland Park Drive just after six o’clock this morning

State Farm is balking at an order issued by Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon that requires them to pay Hurricane Ida evacuation expenses whether a mandatory evacuation was issued or not…

The number of Louisiana customers still without power is 315-thousand. That’s according to the Louisiana Public Service Commission, Over 90-percent of homes and businesses in St. Charles, Lafourche, and Terrebonne Parishes are without electricity.

FEMA says they’ve approved 171-thousand households for disaster assistance and the federal agency has been able to distribute 194 million dollars to storm survivors. By law, FEMA cannot provide duplicate assistance so spokesperson John Mills says to contact your insurance carrier before you file for assistance. If you have any questions, he encourages you to call 1-800-621-FEMA

Louisiana will get its first taste of fall over the next few days as a cold front has lowered humidity levels…

The number of Hurricane-Ida-related deaths has jumped to 26. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s office has confirmed eleven additional storm-related deaths that occurred from August 30th to September 6th. Most of these latest fatalities were the result of excessive heat during an extended power outage.

FEMA is helping those impacted by Hurricane Ida with critical needs and transitional housing. Brooke Thorington has more.

Louisiana is ordering insurance providers to pay evacuation expenses, but Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says the state’s largest insurer of homes, State Farm, does not plan on complying with the order if the parish did not formally announce a mandatory evacuation order…

Sad news from the Baton Rouge Zoo. A 20-month old giraffe named after LSU’s Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback has died. Zoo officials say Burreaux had a severe cough and overall agitation on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning he passed away. Zoo veterinarian Doctor Michael Warshaw was asked if Burreaux may have died from COVID…

LSU sent a text message to students reminding them the deadline is tomorrow to get vaccinated against the coronavirus and if they do not, they will be unenrolled. The school gives students five options on how they can comply with the school’s pandemic protocol. Last week, the university reported 68-percent of its students are vaccinated.

LSU guard Ed Ingram provided candid comments on what went wrong last Saturday when the Tigers lost their season opener to UCLA. Ingram and the rest of the offensive line had trouble protecting quarterback Max Johnson and couldn’t establish a running game….

Ingram also says they got tired and were out of shape because of the numerous injuries that occurred during fall camp. Center Liam Shananan says UCLA did some stuff they were not prepared for.

The Tigers enter Saturday’s game without their two starting tackles. Austin Deculus and Cam Wire have been ruled out. Charles Turner and Marlon Martinez are potential replacements.

The Cajuns have ruled wide receiver Errol Rogers Junior and linebacker Ferrod Gardner out for Saturday’s home opener against Nicholls.

Nothing official from the Saints, but they have reportedly traded for Houston Texans cornerback Bradly Roby. The former first-round draft pick has 10 interceptions during his seven-year NFL career. He’s also started 35 games over the past three seasons for the Texans and Broncos.

The Saints will face Green Bay in the season opener on Sunday. The Packers have reached the NFC championship game the last two seasons and they are expected to get back there again this year. New Orleans Coach Sean Payton says Green Bay does a lot of the little things well…

The Saints have also reportedly pulled off a trade for Houston Texans cornerback Bradley Roby. He’s 29-years-old and will be suspended for Sunday’s game against Green Bay as he finishes a multi-game suspension that started last year when he was busted for a positive test for a banned substance. Roby was selected in the first round of the 2014 draft by the Broncos and in 99 career games, he has ten interceptions. He was set to enter the season as a starter for the Texans despite the suspension.

Ed Orgeron has said his starting offensive tackles, Austin Deculus and Cam Wire, will not be available for Saturday’s game because of undisclosed injuries. Orgeron says Charles Turner and Anthony Bradford are a couple of guys who will have to step it up.

ULM has announced baseball coach Michael Frederico has received a three-year contract extension and his base salary went up to 126-thousand dollars. The Warhawks went 26 and 26 this past season, the program’s first non-losing season since 2012.
