Nicholas actually reached hurricane strength before making landfall during the overnight hours in Matagorda Peninsula, Texas. Because Nicholas’ track has shifted south, the potential impacts for north Louisiana have lessened.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office believes they have found the 504-pound alligator that killed 71-year-old Timothy Satterlee Senior of Slidell. Satterlee encountered the alligator in Hurricane Ida floodwaters while checking on something in his shed. His 68-year-old wife tried to assist her husband, but the gator go to him before she could get help. Captain Lance Vitter with the St. Tammany Sheriff’s office…

The alligator has been killed and an autopsy will be conducted to see if Satterlee’s remains are inside the alligator’s stomach.

The Louisiana Department of Revenue is taking steps to provide state tax relief following Hurricane Ida. LDR Secretary Kimberly Lewis says the department is granting automatic filing extensions to both individual and business taxpayers in the 25 parishes placed under a disaster declaration by the governor.

The automatic extended due date to file is now January 3, 2022. However, Lewis says it is not an extension to pay any taxes due.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff deputies have captured the 12-foot alligator believed to have killed 71-year-old Timothy Satterlee of Slidell. Satterlee was attacked outside his home which was surrounded by floodwaters in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Ida. Captain Lance Vitter says Satterlee went outside to check on something in his shed when he encountered the alligator…

Satterlee was known for his volunteer work in the community along with disaster response by cooking meals for storm victims.

Fuel shortages continue to hamper areas hit hard by Ida. Revenue Secretary Kimberly Lewis says the state is waiving Louisiana’s diesel fuel penalty for selling or using tax-exempt dyed diesel fuel. Lewis says the relief will remain in effect through at least tomorrow…

The LSU football program is mourning the death of Kevione Faulk, the 19-year-old daughter of running backs coach Kevin Faulk. Kevione, who was a student worker on the football staff, died Monday morning. A cause of death was not known.

LSU running back John Emery Junior has been ruled academically ineligible for the season. Coach Ed Orgeron did not provide any other information. There are reports Emery has hired a lawyer to challenge the decision for Emery to sit this season.

This Saturday, the Tigers host Central Michigan. The Chippewas lost by ten points to Missouri two weeks ago and through two games this season they are averaging 239 rushing yards a game. Orgeron on C-M-U’s running attack

According to the National Hurricane Center, the center of what’s left of Nicholas will be over Lafayette on Thursday.

The 504-pound alligator suspected of killing a 71-year-old Slidell man the day after Ida made landfall has been captured. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Captain Lance Vitter says they promised the family of Timothy Satterlee, Sr. that they would do all they can to locate his body.

The alligator was located on Monday, two weeks after Satterlee was last seen. It was the victim’s 68-year-old wife that last saw him being attacked by the gator. She tried to assist but was unable and then traveled to a nearby highway for assistance because 9-1-1 was not operational.

The Saints began the Jameis Winston era with a big “W” as New Orleans completely dominated Green Bay 38 to 3 yesterday. Winston played error free football as he threw for 148 yards and five touchdowns. Winston gives credit to the defense for holding Aaron Rodgers to 133 yards passing…

Marshon Lattimore has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Saints. The 97-million dollar deal would make Lattimore the second highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. And Lattimore reportedly needs surgery on his thumb. He played in the second half with a protective cast.

LSU beat McNeese in its home opener, but the offense still had trouble producing a consistent running attack and providing adequate protection for Quarterback Max Johnson. Coach Ed Orgeron says he’s a little surprised to see his offense struggle after the first two games of the season…

And Orgeron delivered more bad news regarding his offense and that is running back John Emery has been ruled ineligible for the rest of the season because of academic issues. The former five-star prospect was expected to be a big part of the offense this season.

Louisiana Tech defensive back BeeJay Williamson was named Conference USA defensive player of the week after intercepting two passes in the Bulldogs 45-42 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.

Southwest Louisiana is under a Flash Flood Watch as Tropical Storm Nicholas heads up the southeast Texas coast.  Donovan Landreneau with the National Weather Service says the amount of rain the Bayou State could see could climb as high as 20 inches.  And, the storm surge could be an additional problem dished out by Nicholas.

Landreneau says rain bands will likely tell the story of how much rain areas of the state will receive from Nicholas.

Landreneau says it’s too early to say which areas of the state will be subjected to the heaviest rainfall as the official forecast track shows Nicholas twisting to the northeast as it exits Texas moving into central Louisiana.

In Tangipahoa Parish, a Loranger man is charged with aggravated assault of a utility worker after branding a gun and threatening a lineman. TPSO Chief Jimmy Travis says it happened Friday evening on Highway 445 after 35-year-old Kendrick James refused to yield to a utility crew restoring power.

The charge carries a penalty of a fine of not less than $2,000 and/or imprisoned for not less than one year nor more than three years.

Travis says this is not the first incident involving harassment of utility workers they’ve encountered. He says one man even threatened the power company on the phone.

While Travis admits it’s frustrating waiting to get power restored but harassing a utility worker is not the answer, he says it’s a complicated and lengthy process to restore power safely and he urges residents to be patient due to the outages.

Baton Rouge attorney Ron Haley has filed a lawsuit on behalf of one of the more than 800 nursing home residents that were evacuated to a warehouse in Tangipahoa Parish during hurricane Ida. The suit names nursing homeowner Bob Dean and the Louisiana Department of Health as defendants. Haley says nursing homes in southern parts of the state are required to file an evacuation plan with the state.

Haley’s client is Darlene Franklin, who is currently in a nursing home in New Roads, was not only a resident in a Bob Dean facility but also a former employee.

Inspectors with the health department visited the warehouse after they received reports of deteriorating conditions but were thrown off the property then returned the next day to relocate the more than 800 residents to properly equipped facilities across the state.

Seven residents have since died from the original evacuation to the warehouse.

Haley says Franklin told him not only were evacuees crowed into the warehouse and left on mattresses on the floor but they also weren’t given food or medication for two days.

This is the second lawsuit filed against Dean, the first was a class action suit filed out of New Orleans. The state has since revoked the licenses of seven nursing homes owned by Dean that were evacuated to the warehouse.

Despite spending the last couple of weeks displaced from New Orleans, because of Hurricane Ida, the Saints were ready for the start of the regular and it showed in yesterday’s 38 to 3 beat down of the Green Bay Packers. Saints Quarterback Jameis Winston threw five touchdown passes and zero interceptions, while Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers was picked off twice and only threw for 133 yards. Linebacker Demario Davis says they wanted to win this one for Who Dat nation…

The Saints are at Carolina this Sunday. The Panthers won their regular-season opener as they grounded the New York Jets 19-14.

The LSU Tigers beat McNeese 34-7 on Saturday night, but the Bayou Bengals offense did not look good in the victory. LSU had just 306 yards of total offense and they were just 4-of-16 on third down. Orgeron says he’s a little surprised the offense has struggled through the first two games of the season. The Tigers host Central Michigan this Saturday and then they’ll open SEC play on September 25th at Mississippi State. The league announced today that game will kick-off at 11 AM.

State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says when you look at COVID hospitalizations in the state it appears as if they peaked in mid-August but since a major hurricane has hit the state, he fears things could change.

On Friday 1,755 people were hospitalized with COVID-19, down more than 40-percent since the governor issued his latest indoor mask mandate.

The executive director of the Bayou Community Foundation has raised millions of dollars to help residents in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes who need fuel, food and other items following Hurricane Ida. Jennifer Armand says schools in those two parishes suffered significant damage and they are going to figure out how this money can help…

The second of three planned SWEPCO wind farms is up and running in Oklahoma. The Maverick wind farm is expected to generate 287-megawatts of power for the SWEPCO grid in Louisiana and elsewhere. Governor Edwards has declared a state of emergency in advance of Tropical Storm Nicholas which has the potential of bringing heavy rains and flash flooding to Louisiana after it makes landfall in Texas, north of Corpus Christi later today. Southwest Louisiana is under a flash flood watch.
