Bob Dean has filed paperwork in order to get his seven nursing home licenses back that were revoked by the state health department. Dean evacuated 800 nursing home patients to a warehouse in Tangipahoa Parish, where conditions deteriorated in the days after Hurricane Ida. Dean’s attorney John McLindon says what happened afterward happened in other hurricane-impacted areas…

The state Health Department says 12 people who were evacuated to the warehouse died, five of the deaths have been ruled storm-related.

The field of contenders for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican John Kennedy is expected to get a little more crowded. LA Politics-dot-com publisher Jeremy Alford says there’s talk that Democrat Gary Chambers could announce his intentions.

The suspected gunman is 31-year-old Matthew Mire, who is also accused of killing Pamela Adair in a separate shooting in Ascension. Authorities also believe Mire shot a man and woman inside their Livingston Parish home. A motive for Mire’s shooting rampage is not known.

The Associated Press reports 224-thousand doses of COVID vaccines have been thrown out in Louisiana, because hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and other providers could not find someone to take the vaccine. Two-point-one million Louisiana residents have completed the vaccine series. That’s 46-percent of the state’s population.

Jameis Winston threw four touchdown passes and the defense forced two turnovers as New Orleans defeated the Washington Football Team 33-22. Alvin Kamara also had a big day, 122 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.

Punter Blake Gillikin received the game ball as he averaged 54 yards a punt. The Saints suffered a couple of big injuries. Taysom Hill left with a concussion and Deonte Harris suffered a hamstring injury. New Orleans is off this Sunday.

The Black and Gold are now tied with the Panthers for second place in the NFC South with a 3-and-2 record. Carolina lost to the Eagles 23-18. Tampa Bay won again as they downed the Dolphins 45-17. The Bucs are 4-and-1.

The owner of the seven nursing homes that evacuated more than 800 residents to a Tangipahoa Parish warehouse before Hurricane Ida is trying to get his nursing home licenses back. Bob Dean’s attorney John McLindon says they’ve filed an appeal with the Division of Administrative Law trying to have the licenses restored.

At least 12 people who were evacuated to the warehouse later died, five of them have been ruled storm-related. The Louisiana Department of Health cited cruelty or indifference for why the licenses were revoked.

The LSU football team was outplayed badly in a 42-21 Saturday night loss to Kentucky and Coach Ed Orgeron’s days as head coach could be numbered. Orgeron admits it’s tough times, but still has confidence that he can turn things around…

The Tigers are coming off a heart breaking loss to Auburn. LSU is 15-and-1 after a defeat with Orgeron as their head coach. Kick-off is at 6:30.

In other action on Saturday, ULM is at Georgia State. Even though the Panthers are 1-and-4, they are a 16-point favorite.

In the Southland, 25th ranked Nicholls hosts 14th ranked Southeastern Louisiana. It will be the 31st meeting between these two teams and each squad has won 15 games. Northwestern State seeks its first win as they visit Houston Baptist. Grambling is at Alcorn, while Southern visits winless Texas Southern.

The Saints are at the Washington Football Team on Sunday. In four games this season, Quarterback Jameis Winston has thrown for just 613 yards. There’s talk that Coach Sean Payton doesn’t trust Winston enough to let him throw more passes. Winston says it’s his job to fit in…

LSU heads to the Bluegrass State today where they’ll face 16th ranked Kentucky tomorrow night in Lexington at 6:30. The Tigers will not have three starters on the defensive side of the ball. Cornerback Derek Stingley Junior had foot surgery this week, safety Major Burns also has a foot injury and Coach Ed Orgeron said last night that defensive tackle Joseph Evans is also out for this game.

Last night, Tulane fell to 1-and-5 on the season as the Green Wave lost to Houston 40-22.

Tomorrow at noon, 14th ranked Southeastern Louisiana will visit 25th ranked Nicholls. A good matchup of quarterbacks, Cole Kelley for the Lions and Lindsey Scott for the Colonels. S-L-U Coach Frank Scelfo says they need to keep Scott in the pocket because he’s dangerous with his legs…

After responding to a residence for a medical emergency Wednesday night police in Lafayette found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Lafayette P.D. Corporal Bridgette Dugas says they are now investigating a homicide at an Essie Street home.

The gunshot victim was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead and police say she was only shot once.

Dugas says the shooting happened shortly after 9 pm Wednesday night in the 100 block of Essie Street. She says the area is not known for high crime and they are asking anyone who might have seen something out of the ordinary to contact them.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A disturbing viral Tik Tok video of an 18-year old Covington High School student and teacher is making the rounds. Covington Police Sgt. Edwin Masters says they got involved after the Wednesday afternoon altercation in which the female student attacked a 64-year old disabled teacher which caused her to go to the hospital.

In the video, you can see the teacher sitting at her desk when a student who has been identified as Larrianna Jackson approaches. There is a brief discussion, you can’t hear them, but you can hear students who are filming say they are going to run if she goes through with it. Moments later the students scream as Jackson punches the teacher repeatedly.

Masters says during the investigation they learned of the video challenge and because of recent legislation which can also hold a person who knowingly films a crime responsible, the female student directly involved in the altercation might not be the only one charged.

Masters gives a stark warning for residents in Covington even thinking about participating in such a challenge that involves violence and/or destruction of property.

Jackson is charged with felony Battery of a School Teacher and is being held at the St. Tammany Parish Jail. The school teacher has been released from the hospital.

The Louisiana Coastal Protection Restoration Authority says it has completed a multi-million-dollar project to enhance the presence of the Brown Pelican on Rabbit Island in Southwest Louisiana. Project Manager Todd Baker tells us the effort has been much more successful than expected.

The Brown Pelican is Louisiana’s state bird and Baker says of the nests observed on the island, there are 11-hundred-50 Brown Pelican nests on the island. A total of 12 species have been observed on the island, ten of them listed as “species of greatest conservation need.

CPRA Project Manager Todd Baker tells us how important the restoration project, paid for with Deepwater Horizon oil spill money, is to preserve the Brown Pelican in the state.

A nine-year-old boy in southeast Louisiana suffered serious injuries after he was hit yesterday by a dump truck after getting off the school bus in Belle Chasse. State Police Trooper Ross Brennan says 61-year-old Gregory Valentine of Donaldsonville approached the rear of a school bus that had its stop signs extended and flashing lights activated
