The LSU men’s basketball team holds its first practice today under first year coach Matt McMahon. It’s a completely different team this year with 10 new scholarship players. The Tigers will have 28 practices before the season opener against Missouri-Kansas City on November ninth.

Hurricane Ian is bearing down on Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers are scheduled to host the Chiefs on Sunday night. Caesars Superdome spokesperson Doug Thornton says they’ve told the NFL that the Dome could host the game, if Tampa is unable to host.

Governor John Bel Edwards leaves for London today in what his office is calling an economic development mission. The governor’s spokesperson Shauna Sanford says Edwards will meet with executives of major energy firms and tomorrow he’ll meet with the world’s leading insurance underwriter, Lloyd’s of London to discuss the state’s serious insurance issues…

Since LSU student Allie Rice was killed inside her car on September 16th, her aunt and godmother Susie Rice says family members have received an overwhelming amount of support. She says the support is both emotional and financial with donations for reward money and funeral expenses.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for southeast Louisiana urging people to avoid open burning due to dry and breezy conditions. State Fire Marshal’s spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue asks residents to take it seriously. She says between January and March, four people died from out-of-control piles and another person died yesterday in northwest Louisiana

Rodrigue says the State Fire Marshal is urging the public not to do any outdoor burns for the next week.

The National Security Agency has designated LSU as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations. Director of the LSU Applied Cybersecurity Lab, Golden Richard, says the designation puts LSU at the forefront for advances in cybersecurity and allows the school to apply for N-S-A—specific grants…

The vehicle of a sixth grade teacher reported missing in the Houston-area has been found in New Orleans. The husband of 48-year-old Michelle Reynolds reported his wife missing last Thursday. Sergeant Danny Lares, with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office in Texas says they do not know what she was doing when she went missing

A new report released today by Trust For America’ s Health has the state’s obesity rate at 39-percent. Louisiana is one of the 19 state that has an obesity rate above 35-percent. A decade ago, no state has had a rate above 35-percent.

28 different firms – including one partly owned by Saints legend Steve Gleason – are vying for Louisiana’s 10th and last available medical cannabis pharmacy license. Speaking to state lawmakers last year, Steve Gleason, an ALS patient, says medical marijuana greatly benefited him…:

A ninth insurance company with thousands of policyholders in Louisiana has gone under. Fednat Insurance Corporation has been directed into insolvency by Florida regulators, because it does not have enough money to pay existing claims. Records show Fednat has 13-thousand Louisiana policyholders and 15-hundred claims open.

A blood test is now available that can detect cancer without the person showing any symptoms. The test costs $950. A physician must order it and its currently not covered by insurance, but Doctor David Meyers of Metairie says it’s still a fantastic development towards the fight against cancer…

LSU football coach Brian Kelly says starting quarterback Jayden Daniels is experiencing no residual effects from the hard hit he took in the third quarter during Saturday’s shutout win over New Mexico. Daniels left the game with what was called a lower back strain.

Senior Safety Joe Foucha will make his debut in Saturday’s Auburn game. The transfer from Arkansas was suspended the first four games due to academic issues. Kelly says Foucha has been practicing with the team during his suspension and should fit in well…
