State Climatologist Barry Keim says Louisiana is dangerously dry. Shreveport has gone 23 straight days without any rainfall, Baton Rouge for 24, and New Orleans has had just a sprinkle in the past 26 days.

Keim says those hardest hit are farmers, and there’s no relief in sight.

October is usually a dry month and a welcome break from summer temperatures, but Keim says if we don’t get rain soon it could spell trouble for your lawn.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Casey Tingle says the theme of this year’s month is “See Yourself in Cyber,” and they want to drive home the point that all of us have a role to play when it comes to cybersecurity.

He says to make sure your own data is secure and backed up and that your operating system and virus protection programs are also up to date.

When it comes to social media, Tingle says you want to be careful about identifying when you’ll be out of town, because it can be an open invitation for burglars.

Tingle says to be suspicious about links sent to you in emails or texts, especially from someone you don’t recognize along with attachments before you click on them. Always protect your personal identification information like your social security number, birth date, and financial account numbers. Tingle says if you believe you’ve been a victim of a cybercrime…

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, under fire for spending tens of thousands of taxpayer money to travel first class, has relented and says she will reimburse the city nearly $30-thousand in flight upgrades. She insists though, that as a city employee, she was doing city business…:

Cantrell originally refused to absorb the cost of first class airfare upgrades; saying it was for her “safety and security.” The New Orleans city attorney says city policy requires all city employees to seek the lowest fares available, OR reimburse the city for deluxe accommodations. Some argue her recent “sister city” trip to France will not benefit New Orleans in any substantial way. Cantrell is also under scrutiny for supporting a teen carjacker and for using a city-owned French Quarter apartment as her own.

LSU Football Coach Brian Kelly says Jayden Daniels will start at quarterback this Saturday after leaving the Auburn game with a knee injury. The coach says it’s great that Daniels has yet to throw an interception this season, but wants to see him more aggressive in order to spark more big plays in the passing game…

LSU fans would like to see wide receiver Kayshon Boutte get the ball more. He was only targeted twice in the victory over Auburn. Kelly says part of the issue is building trust with a new quarterback. He says they would absolutely like to get him the ball more and Boutte has handled himself the right way as he continues to work for the team. The Tigers host eighth ranked Tennessee this Saturday.

The Saints continue to recover today from their trip to London that ended with a loss to Minnesota. Coach Dennis Allens ays he wants to eliminate the mistakes that have led to a three-game losing streak…

The Saints lead the NFL in offensive turnovers with eleven and the defense has only forced four turners. New Orleans hosts Seattle this Sunday.

In the latest high school football polls. Destrehan remains the number one ranked team in Class Five-A according to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Undefeated Parkway and St. Augustine have moved into the Top 10. The Panthers are coming off a win over Captain Shreve and they are ranked eighth, while the Purple Knights are ranked ninth.

The Pelicans tip-off their preseason schedule tonight as they are in Chicago to face the Bulls. It will be the first time we’ve seen Zion Williamson on the court since May of 2021. New Orleans has also announced they’ve signed Larry Nance Junior to a contract extension.

Mandeville Republican Representative Richard Nelson went before the Baton Rouge Press Club to discuss his proposal to eliminate the state’s income tax. He says any plan to do away with the state income tax will need to be “revenue neutral” or it will not pass the legislature, so alternate revenue sources need to be decided. Rescues continue in Hurricane Ian stricken Florida. United Cajun Navy spokesperson Brian Trascher says they finally made it to Capitva Island. Trascher says while most residents have evacuated there are some who don’t want to leave their homes….

Low water levels on the Mississippi River is hampering barge traffic on the major transportation route for crops. Barges are unable to carry as much as they normally do. Ag Commissioner Mike Strain says it’s not good news for lower food prices…

Here’s some good news. A Japanese drug manufacturer says they’ve seen good results in slowing down the cognitive and functional decline in early-stage Azheimer’s. The drug is called lecanemab. (LAH-CAN-EH-MAB). Doctor Jeffrey Keller at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center, says since there are no existing drugs that actually slow down Alzheimer’s, he is hoping that efforts to fast-track it for patient use will be effective.

An assistant football coach at Terrebonne High School is facing two-counts of molestation of a juvenile female. Deputies say 24-year-old Bobby Sewire of Gray admitted involement with the juvenile victim that took place at locations within Terrebonne. After he was booked, Sewire was released on a 15-thousand dollar bond.

There’s a positive development in the fight against Alzheimer’s. A Japenese drug maunfacturer says it’s experimental drug reduced cognitive and functional decline by 27-percent in patients with early-stage Alzheimer’s. Doctor Jeffrey Keller at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center says based on the trial’s data, the drug’s side effects include brain swelling and bleeding, but the patients were rarely symptomatic…

The U-S Supreme Court hears oral arguments today over Alabama’s congressional district map. Alabama has seven congressional districts and 27-percent of its population is black and the ACLU argues Alabama should have two majority-minority districts. This case is similar to the legal challenges against Louisiana’s Congressional district map.

Low water levels are limiting the amount of grain that can be shipped via barges on the Mississippi River. Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says 99% of the water in the Mississippi River comes from northern states and after little to no rain its hindering agriculture shipments.

Strain says it’s another supply chain issue that could lead to higher food prices.

Kelly says cornerback Sevyn Banks suffered a spinal-cord bruise and will be out five to six weeks. Banks was carted off the field after the opening kick-off and transported to a local hospital. He returned to the stadium by halftime and was seen wearing a neck brace and had movement in his extremities.

The Ragin Cajuns do not have a game until October 13th against Marshall, but Coach Michael Desormeaux is not sure at this point if quarterback Chandler Fields and running back Chris Smith will play because of his injuries.

The Saints are 1-and-3 and it’s easy to see why. They’ve turned it over an NFL high 11 times and have committed 34 penalties, second most in the league behind Denver. The NFL Network reports the Saints have lost running back Latavius Murray to the Denver Broncos. Murray was elevated off the practice squad for Sunday’s game in London and performed well, rushing for a team-high 57 yards on 11 carries. But the Broncos had the opportunity to sign Murray off the Saints practice squad after they lost Javonte Williams to a season ending injury.

LSU’s B-J Ojulari has been named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in the comeback 21-17 win over Auburn. Ojulari led the Tigers with four tackles, including a pair of sacks and his strip sack of Auburn quarterback Robby Ashford led to Jay Ward’s 23-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Chambers says it’s a racist message because it’s directed at a certain subset of the population. He says crack cocaine users are not the only ones responsible for the state’s high crime rate…

In the ad Kennedy says, “If you hate cops just because they’re cops, the next time you get in trouble call a crackhead.” Chambers says it’s another classic one liner from Kennedy that doesn’t help Louisiana…

Louisiana football legend Terry Bradshaw has revealed he battled two forms of cancer over the past year. Bradshaw says he had bladder cancer and then a rare skin cancer. The Shreveport native, former Louisiana Tech star, and NFL Hall of Famer shared his story on Fox NFL Sunday.

On the September 27th pre-game show, Bradshaw appeared to be in pain and struggling to breathe. Viewers noticed and started asking questions on social media. The 74-year-old Bradshaw says he decided it was time to share his medical info.

But four months later, in March Bradshaw says he noticed neck pain.

Bradshaw says surgery to remove that tumor was also successful. Bradshaw won four Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He retired from football in 1984 and began his television career as an NFL analyst. He has been with Fox NFL Sunday since 1994

As part of the Safe Schools Initiative Louisiana Superintendent of Education, Dr. Cade Brumley announces the launch of the “Say It Here” app. Brumley says the app allows middle and high school students the ability to anonymously report crime and in many cases be proactive.

The app is in partnership with Greater New Orleans Crimestoppers, Louisiana State Police,  and the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.  The app also provides mental health resources like a hotline for students who are bullied or victims of crime. Brumley explains how tips are handled once they are submitted on the app.

He says it follows the best practices and procedures for operating national anonymous student hotlines like the Sandy Hook Promise. Presently 40 Louisiana school systems are already participating which equates to some 500 middle and high schools. Brumley says it’s important to give students the ability to say something when they see something.

For schools to participate Brumley says it can be done in as easily as two weeks. An initial memorandum of understanding must be executed and then training for school staff and students.

Crowley state Representative John Stefanski announce he will run for Attorney General of Louisiana in 2023. The 38-year-old Republican lawmaker is  chairman of the House & Governmental Affairs Committee, which oversaw redistricting earlier this year. Stefanski says he expects the A.G.’s office to be an “open seat” next fall…:

Jeff Landry is expected to run for Governor next year. Stefanski says, if elected, he would work to make Louisiana safer and more secure…:

State Police reports 16-year-old Robert Lewis of Natchitoches died yesterday in a Utility Terrain Vehicle crash. Authorities say a 14-year-old was operating the U-T-V and Lewis was a passenger when the driver lost control and it overturned. Lewis was ejected and died at a local hospital from his injuries. The juvenile driver sustained minor injuries.
