The Washington Post reports there has been 88 school shootings in the United States in the last two years.

According to The Conference Board, job satisfaction is an all-time high with 62-percent of US workers surveyed saying they are satisfied with their current job. UNO Professor Mark Rosa says the survey shows employees working remotely or sometimes at home are more satisfied

LSU Health New Orleans will graduate new members into the health care workforce on Thursday. The school reports nearly 900 students completed degree requirements this academic year. Interim Chancellor, Doctor Steve Nelson, says it’s imperative for all parts of the state to have well-trained healthcare providers because when you’re in an accident or need immediate care you’re going to be taken to the closest emergency room.

The House Appropriations Committee has rejected a bill that would have boosted the pay of state lawmakers. Legislators currently make 16,800 dollars. Critics are concerned about the optics of legislator pay going up.

The House Criminal Justice Committee is scheduled to take up a bill today to allow citizens to carry a concealed weapon without a permit. Oil City Representative Danny McCormick says his bill won approval from the full House last year, before it stalled out in the Senate in the wake of the Uvalde, TX school shooting…:

Senate Finance has approved legislation that would establish the Center for Safe Schools within the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. The legislation would require schools to hold shooting drills during high traffic or passing times in the hallways. Baton Rouge McKinley High School student Daniel Price says due to the lack of practice in school drills, he’s not confident in the school’s ability to counter active school threats…..

The Saints expect receiver Michael Thomas will be healthy for the start of training camp. The former All-Pro only played in three games last season due to a toe injury. He missed the entire 2021 campaign with an ankle injury that limited him to seven games in 2020. He has not caught more than 100 passes in a season since 2019, but G-M Mickey Loomis believes he can be a 100-catch receiver again…

And the Saints have signed former Cowboys and Steelers receiver James Washington. He only played in two games last season because of a foot injury. His best season was in 2019 when he caught 44 passes for 735 yards and three touchdowns in Pittsburgh.

Tonight is the NBA draft lottery, the Pelicans have a half a percent chance of winning the first pick. It’s expected they will end up with the 14th overall pick.

A proposal to raise legislators’ annual salary from 16,800 to 39-thousand dollars was killed in House Appropriations. Meanwhile, the Louisiana Senate approves a bill that would require libraries to create a card system that requires a minor’s parent or guardian to select whether the minor is permitted to check out sexually explicit material.

Are you happy with your job? Most people are…that’s according to a Conference Board survey that found 62-percent of US workers are satisfied, which is an all-time high. UNO Business Professor Mark Rosa says when opportunities are limited, employees tend to have lower expectations and feel more satisfied with their jobs.

Workers who voluntarily switched jobs since the pandemic began report higher satisfaction in almost all aspects of jobs.

The pandemic highlighted the importance of well-trained healthcare providers and on Thursday almost 900 students from six professional health schools will graduate from LSU Health Sciences New Orleans. Interim Chancellor Dr. Steve Nelson says the majority of the school’s graduates tend to stay in Louisiana for their residency.

LSU’s Angel Reese has been named to Team USA and will compete in the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in Mexico from July 1st to July 9th.

After signing free agent tight end Foster Moreau, the Saints are at 86 players and could still add four more. Coach Dennis Allen says they’ll keep looking at ways to improve the roster…

Moreau is expected to participate in OTAs in a couple of weeks and the Saints are also optimistic receiver Michael Thomas will be ready for training camp and they still think he’s the guy who can catch 100 passes in a season.

LSU softball will host its seventh regional in the last eight years this weekend as they were awarded one of the 16 regional sites. The U-L Lafayette Cajuns are the two seed and beat LSU in Tiger Park on February 25th. McNeese is headed to Seattle to compete in the regional hosted by Washington.

When the pandemic disrupted life as we know it, many women fell behind or missed their annual mammograms. LSU Health New Orleans Surgical Oncologist Dr. Shawn McKinney says she, like other surgeons, is seeing the repercussions with more patients who have advanced or later stages of breast cancer.

McKinney says Louisiana has always been above the national average for diagnosis of breast cancer, especially among the younger African American population presenting with more aggressive breast cancer.  Last week U.S. Preventive Services Task Force changed course and advises to begin screenings at 40 years of age instead of 50.

During the pandemic, a gap in health insurance complicated matters for many and annual mammograms fell by the wayside. McKinney says there are several programs to help women pay for mammograms and she urges patients to never let finances be an obstacle and to always tell their healthcare provider about their family history.

McKinney says at any age if you notice something different or find a lump in your breast to call your physician and be evaluated as soon as possible.

The House Appropriations Committee has stopped an effort to increase the annual salaries of state lawmakers from $16,800 to around 39-thousand dollars. The panel rejected the proposal on a 16-5 vote. New Orleans Representative Jason Hughes voted against the bill…

Hughes believes an independent commission should be established to determine the salary of legislators.

Gretna Representative Joe Marino led the effort to raise the pay of lawmakers. He says being a legislator is time consuming and a higher salary would result in a larger pool of candidates in wanting the job…

The salary for state legislators has not changed since 1980. But Prairieville Representative Tony Bacala says he ran for the job knowing the salary and it will not give lawmakers give themselves a pay raise

The raise would have started next year when a new Louisiana Legislature is sworn in.

LDWF is investigating the illegal killing of one of the state legacies – the Louisiana Black Bear – found in Lincoln Parish last week. Sgt. John Hattaway says agents and biologists responded to the call of a bear shot on Millie Road.

Black bears remain protected by state laws, which currently do not allow them to be hunted. The Louisiana black bear was listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act in 1992. Hattaway says the black bear was delisted in 2016 and their numbers are being restored.

Biologists determined the bear weighed more than 200 pounds. Hattaway says taking a bear during a closed season brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail.

Anyone found guilty of shooting this black bear may also face civil restitution for the replacement value of the illegally taken black bear totaling $10,000.

Legislation to establish a partnership with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Louisiana advances from House Appropriations. Bogalusa Representative Melinda White’s bill creates the Louisiana Imagination Library Program with dedicated funding for children up to age five to receive free books by mail.

The second ranked LSU baseball team dropped its second consecutive SEC Series as the pitching staff is coming unglued after Paul Skenes pitches on Friday night. On Saturday, LSU gave up six runs in the eighth inning in a 9-4 loss and on Sunday, the bullpen blew a nine-run lead as Mississippi State rallied for a 14-13 win in ten innings. Louisiana Hospital Association CEO Paul Salles says inflation played a role in last week’s announcement that Ochsner is laying off 770 employees at it’s facilities in Louisiana and Mississippi. Salles says more hospital systems could do the same as hospitals do not have the ability to raise prices like other industries…

The Republican controlled House did not contain funding for teacher pay raises in its budget plan. Instead, the lower chamber proposes paying down teacher retirement debt, which would free up dollars for local school systems to provide funding for higher teacher salaries.

LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center is embarking on a $2.3 million study to determine if altitude plays a role in weight loss. Lead Researcher Claire Berryman says to determine whether low oxygen levels in the air can help obese individuals lose weight , they will have participants sleep in a tent with oxygen levels equivalent to 85-hundred feet…

After winning in 16 innings on Saturday, Louisiana Tech lost in ten innings yesterday as Florida Atlantic took the series in Boca Raton.

The Ragin Cajuns swept Texas State and U-L Lafayette is three-games back of the co-leaders in the Sun Belt, Southern Miss and Coastal Carolina. ULM was swept by Southern Miss.

Saints Coach Dennis Allen confirmed reports that newly signed tight end Foster Moreau could participate in the team’s offseason training activities in two weeks. Moreau has been undergoing treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma since he was diagnosed after taking a physical with the Saints in March. Allen says they are leaning on the doctors to make that decision…

Allen says he feels good about receiver Michael Thomas’ recovery from a foot injury that limited him to three games last season. Allen says once Thomas is 100-percent, they expect he’ll be the player they had in the past.

The LSU softball team will host a regional this weekend for the 12th time in program history. And one of the teams is in from Lafayette as the Lady Cajuns are a two seed. The regional gets underway Friday at Tiger Park.
