The Louisiana Dental Association opposes Fesi’s efforts to remove fluoride from public drinking water systems. New Orleans dentist Suzanne Fournier says Fesi’s legislation would result in tooth decay and it’s also costly for the taxpayer…

After an amendment, the legislation heading to the Senate floor now allows voters without fluoride in their drinking water to have a public vote to add it and communities with fluoride in their drinking water, can petition to have an election to remove it.

 

Debate on a bill that would name a proposed new Mississippi River Bridge in Baton Rouge after Donald Trump is expected on the House floor this afternoon. Many have strong feelings about the president, but Monroe Representative Michael Echols says if the new bridge is named after the president that will increase the chances the federal government will pay for its construction and tolls will not be needed.…

LSU is heading to the Sweet 16 for a fifth consecutive season and they will play Duke on Friday in Sacramento. The Lady Tigers beat the Blue Devils by 16 points earlier this season.

The 25th ranked Ragin Cajuns baseball team will likely fall out of the rankings as U-L Lafayette was swept in San Marcos. Texas State beat the Cajuns 16 to 6 in seven innings yesterday.

ULM and La Tech lost their series two games to one.

Two weeks into SEC play, LSU is 2-and-4 and their team batting average is .277. That’s near the bottom in conference play. LSU had 19 hits during the three-game set against the Sooners and only five extra-base hits. The only two doubles they hit, came in Thursday’s series-opening win. Coach Jay Johnson would like to see his team hit more doubles…

Grambling swept its series against Alabama A-and-M. McNeese won its series over S-L-U, Northwestern State won its series over UNO and Nicholls took two of three from UIW.

Another lackluster game for LSU’s offense as they lost to eighth ranked Oklahoma four to two last night. The only offense the Tigers generated was a home run by John Pearson and an RBI single from Omar Serna. Cooper Moore suffered the loss and he left in the fifth inning with an apparent arm injury. Moore will be evaluated this morning after complaining that his triceps muscle was bothering him. The rubber game of the series is today at 2 PM.

Just five hits for the 25th ranked Ragin Cajuns as they lost four to one to Texas State. ULM battled back from an early three-run deficit and lost to South Alabama five to four to end the Warhawks five game winning streak.

Louisiana Tech won its 5th straight game with a 13 to eight victory over New Mexico State. Third baseman Colby Lunsford drove in seven runs as he hit a three-run homer in the second inning and a grand slam in the third inning.

The LSU women’s basketball team scored the first 14 points and went on to easily beat Jacksonville 116 to 58 in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Mikayla Williams had 18 points and ten assists and says it was great to be back on the court after not playing in two weeks…

Flau’jae Johnson led the way with 20 points. LSU will next play Texas Tech on Sunday. The Red Raiders beat Villanova in a low-scoring affair 57-52.

The Southern women’s basketball team will face top-seeded South Carolina today. That game is at 1 PM.

Back to baseball from last night…Simon Larranaga and Bryce Fontenot each homered as McNeese defeated Southeastern eight to two. Northwestern State fell to UNO three to two and Nicholls doubled up UIW eight to four. Caston Thompson had four hits and drove in three runs.

KTBS-TV in Shreveport is reporting State Police along with the Bossier and DeSoto Parish Sheriff offices are assisting with the federal investigation into drone activity at Barksdale. Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington says they will provide updates if additional information becomes available.

 

Congresswoman Julia Letlow has agreed to participate in a Republican Senate Primary debate, but incumbent Bill Cassidy does not like the setting. Letlow says she will participate in a debate on the Moon Griffon radio show on April 28th.  Political reporter for the Advocate and Nola.com, Tyler Bridges, says Griffon is an outspoken critic of Cassidy…

Crawfish prices have dropped 50-cents per pound as the supply of mudbugs continues to go up. That’s according to the Crawfish App co-founder Laney King, who says recent rain and warmer temperatures have increased crawfish activity…

The LSU baseball team can clinch a series victory over the eighth ranked Oklahoma Sooners tonight. The Tigers beat O-U seven to one last night behind a brilliant pitching performance from Casan Evans, who struck out a career-high 15 over 7.2 innings. Game two is tonight at Alex Box Stadium at 6:30.

Elsewhere…the 25th ranked Ragin Cajuns are looking for their fourth straight win as they begin a series tonight at Texas State. The Bobcats have lost five in a row.

ULM has won five in a row and they are in Mobile to take on South Alabama.

Louisiana Tech has won four straight and they begin a Conference USA Series tonight at New Mexico State.  Tonight’s game begins at 7 PM central.

In the Southland Conference this weekend. Southeastern is at McNeese and  Northwestern State hosts UNO.

NFL news…the Saints have re-signed back-up defensive end Chris Rumph, who played in all 17 games last year and had 35 total tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

 

The LSU women’s basketball team looks to make another deep run in the NCAA Tournament as they host Jacksonville today. If LSU wins, they will play again on Sunday in the PMAC against the winner of tonight’s game between Texas Tech and Villanova. These will be the last two games at home for four-year starter Flau’jae Johnson. Coach Kim Mulkey encourages LSU fans to show their appreciation for everything Johnson has meant to the program.

Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson has a net worth of seven-point-nine billion dollars and the chair of the Sazerac Company, William Goldring, is worth six billion dollars.

 

A Shreveport lawmaker proposes a Domestic Violence registry that would require a person convicted of a domestic violence related offense to register.  The registration fee would be 250-dollars, with 100 dollars going to the governor’s office on women’s policy for domestic abuse intervention programming and services. State representative Joy Walters says that money would help fulfill the ultimate goal of this registry.

Bill Cassidy and Julia Letlow can’t get on the same page when it comes to setting up a Republican Senate Primary debate. Cassidy is asking for three televised debates. Letlow so far is only committing to debate hosted by conservative radio talk show host Moon Griffon. The Advocate’s political reporter Tyler Bridges says debates have become tactical…

The second-seeded LSU women’s basketball team begins its national title run tonight as the Lady Tigers face 15th-seeded Jacksonville at 5 p.m. In each of LSU’s last four deep NCAA Tournament runs, the Tigers received consistent production from their post players. While this year’s team may not have an Angel Reese or an Aneesah Morrow, senior Flau’jae Johnson says the bigs are embracing the challenge of elevating their play in the postseason.

The Southern women’s basketball team has officially booked their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Jags secured a 65-53 win over Samford last night in the “First Four” match and will advance to play top-seeded South Carolina on Saturday at noon.

The LSU baseball team picked up a 7–1 win over No. 8 Oklahoma on Thursday night. Sophomore pitcher Casan Evans delivered a dominant performance, striking out a career-high 15 batters while allowing just one walk over 7.2 innings. Evans became the first LSU pitcher to record 15 strikeouts in an SEC game since Paul Skenes accomplished the feat against Auburn in 2023. Evans says his big night was a result of strong preparation.

A Master Sergeant at the Louisiana State Penitentiary died this week in a car crash on the Angola grounds. Twenty-seven-year-old Tyler Grezaffi’s vehicle ran off the road and into a ditch full of water. She previously worked as a sheriff’s deputy with Pointe Coupee and Iberville parishes.

Mandeville Senator Patrick McMath is seeking to increase state funding of the state’s high-dosage tutoring program from 30 to 45 million dollars. This would  allow for state funded high-dosage tutoring for students up to the eighth grade. McMath says high-dosage tutoring program helped the state lead the nation in learning loss recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.
