President Trump warns a whole civilization could die tonight if Tehran does not meet his deadline of 7 PM central time to an agreement that includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. In a social medial post, Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins said Wipe them out and attack Iran harder than ever.

 

The Data Center, which is in New Orleans, says job growth in Louisiana since 2015 has increased by less than one-percent, well below the U.S. average of 11.5-percent. Dr. Alex Kolker helped put the report together and says Louisiana’s economy has not been the same since the oil price crash of 2014.

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says 44 million people visited the state in 2024, down from the 53-million that visited in 2019. Nungesser says his office is pushing sports tourism and that includes trying to attract the Olympic trials to Louisiana…

In 2024, U-S Olympic team trials for boxing took place in Lafayette and table tennis competitions took place in West Monroe.

Oak Grove basketball star Caroline Bradley has committed to Kim Mulkey and the LSU Lady Tigers. Bradley is a five-star prospect, who is ranked as the nation’s number one center. Bradley is six-foot-five and averaged 27 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots per game for Oak Grove in her senior season.

LSU baseball hosts Bethune Cookman tonight at 6:30. Cade Arrambide named co-SEC hitter of the week for his four home run performance on Sunday.

Spring football resumes today for the LSU football team…Safety Ty Benefield says the intensity of his new defensive coordinator, Blake Baker, has stood out.

Ragin Cajuns Coach Matt Deggs has been suspended for two games after an emotional outburst towards the James Madison dugout during Saturday’s loss that had Deggs screaming at players and coaches in the Dukes’ dugout. Deggs’ admits he could have handled the situation better, saying he lost his cool and wasn’t very professional.

In the Warhawks series loss to Georgia State, ULM coach Ford Pemberton was ejected during Game 1 of Friday night’s doubleheader after arguing with an umpire. Pemberton says he was defending one of his players following an exchange he had with an umpire…

The Chicago Sky has traded former LSU great and current two-time WNBA All-Star, Angel Reese, to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for a 2027 and 2028 first-round pick. Reese led the WNBA in rebounds last season with 12.6 boards per game. She also recorded a league-high 23 double-doubles.

LSU has hired former Miami assistant coach Fitzroy Anthony as one of Kim Mulkey’s two assistant coach additions this offseason. Anthony joins the Tigers’ coaching staff after spending 11 seasons at the University of Miami as an assistant coach since 2015. After seven successful seasons in Coral Gables, Anthony was promoted to associate head coach in 2022.

On the recruiting front, Oak Grove’s Caroline Bradley – a consensus five-star and the nation’s No. 1 center in the Class of 2027 – is set to announce her college choice during a family crawfish boil tonight. She is deciding between LSU, South Carolina, UCLA, Duke, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, Alabama, Kentucky, and Texas A&M.

Arrambide’s fourth home run of the day was a grand slam that ignited a ten-run, 12th inning.

Arramabide earned SEC Co-Player of the Week honors after his historic performance on Sunday. He batted .600 (6-for-10) in three games last week, hitting four home runs with eight RBIs, six runs scored, three walks, and a .692 on-base percentage.

With their series win, the Tigers are now ranked No. 24 by D1Baseball.com. LSU will return to action on Tuesday, hosting Bethune-Cookman at 6:30 p.m.

A Denham Springs representative is asking the LHSAA to make dance, cheer and lacrosse sanctioned high school sports under its authority. Republican Roger Wilder’s resolution passed in the House Education Committee unanimously. Wilder told the committee he was alerted to the issue by a constituent.

He says by placing those sports under LHSAA safety protocols could be put in place.

LSU has won five of its last six and in four of those victories the Tigers had to come back from huge deficits to win. Franques says it’s been exciting to watch this LSU team never give up…

New episodes of the travel series LA 64 premiere on Louisiana Public Broadcasting tonight at eight. Executive Producer Linda Midgett says tonight’s episode takes us to St. Martin Parish, where viewers will be in for a musical treat.

As the name of the series suggests, LA64 will spotlight all 64 parishes over the course of five seasons, focusing on places less traveled. Midgett says every parish has its own personality.

Midgett says the show will go to seven additional parishes between now and the end of May, when the current season wraps up.

A manhunt is on for a man who investigators say shot and killed his mother and grandmother during an argument last night. St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann says 22-year-old Lee Collins the Third shot 75-year-old Mary Major and 55-year-old Trenelle Collins.

The two women died of their injuries at a hospital. Sheriff Pohlmann says Lee Collins also shot at someone else inside the home.

Pohlmann says what’s especially baffling is that Collins has never been in trouble with the law before.

Investigators say Collins drove off in a flatbed truck, and he likely fled into Mississippi last night.

Muhl says 20-percent of long-term Medicaid dollars goes towards services so an individual can live at home, while 80-percent goes to nursing homes. He says AARP is advocating for that ratio to be more like 40-60.

Former LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese has been traded to the Atlanta Dream for two draft picks.

McNeese needs a new women’s basketball as Ayla Guzzardo has accepted the head coaching at Georgia.

Northwestern State baseball is now 13-and-5 in the Southland and in first place after sweeping UTRGV.

 

Tonight is the national championship in men’s college basketball, tomorrow the transfer portal opens as Will Wade will begin the process of rebuilding LSU men’s basketball. According to the Advocate, one player that Wade is expected to go after his Jeremiah Wilkinson, who averaged 17 points a game at Georgia last season.

LSU senior safety Ty Benefield was rated as the No. 2 safety. Benefield says his decision to choose the Tigers came down to a gut feeling.

The latest update from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office says 19 people were evaluated and taken to area hospitals after an alleged drunk driver plowed into a group of parade goers watching the Lao New Year parade in Broussard. Three of the victims remain in intensive care. Todd Landry of Jeanerette has been booked on multiple charges.

A new AARP report finds that 900-thousand Louisianans are caregivers for adults. Director of Advocacy at AARP Louisiana, Andrew Muhl, says 20-percent of long-term Medicaid dollars is spent on services so an individual can live at home, while 80-percent goes to nursing homes. He says AARP would like to see it closer to 40-60 giving family caregivers state assistance to keep their loved ones at home…

AARP is advocating that the state provides an additional 750 waivers so families can take advantage of home and community-based services.

Arrambide had five hits on the day and drove in seven runs as LSU evened up its SEC record at 6-and-6 with its first series victory in Knoxville since 2016.

LSU gymnastics is headed back to the national championships as Kailin Chio and Kaliya Lincoln each scored perfect 10s in the Regional Finals. LSU will compete in the semis on April 16th.

This will be the third week of LSU spring practice. The players are getting to know each other, and many of them are getting to know Louisiana. Tigers’ safety Ty Benefield is from Irvine, California, and this is the first time he’s ever been to Louisiana…

ULM’s Ford Pemberton and Ragin Cajuns Coach Matt Deggs had trouble keeping their cool this past weekend. Both coaches were tossed, and the video of their ejections went viral. Deggs tried to take on the entire James Madison dugout. Both the Cajuns and Warhawks ended up losing their series.

McNeese has lost its women’s basketball coach after one season. Ayla Guzzardo, who also had a lot of success at Southeastern, is the new head coach at Georgia.

Those of you headed into or out of Lafayette on I-49, be prepared for potential construction delays starting today. That’s because DOTD is beginning a major preservation project along a nearly nine-mile stretch from I-10 to the St. Landry Parish line. Deidra Druilhet (drool-YET) with DOTD says the work will entail pavement patching and concrete overlays – not only on the mainlanes, but also on the ramps.

Druilhet says most of the work will be done during the overnight hours.

Cut 5 (12) “…be at night.”

Druilhet says the parts of the project that would present the biggest disruptions would be reserved for the weekends, when volume won’t be nearly as heavy.

The 43-million-dollar project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027.

Unlike a bill, a resolution is non-binding. This one is a concurrent resolution, which means if it passes in the House, it will move to the Senate for its approval.

Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says the Landry administration is not pushing any significant legislation after doing a lot of heavy lifting in his first two years in office…

ULM football is two weeks into spring practice, and an ongoing quarterback battle is taking shape. Aidan Armenta, Landon Graves and Houston transfer Austin Carlisle are just a few players competing for the starting job. Head coach Bryant Vincent says it’s one of the best quarterback rooms he’s had during his time in Monroe.
