Louisiana Tech fell behind 35-7 to Western Kentucky, but rallied in the second half to make it a game, only to lose 35-28. It’s the second straight home game the Bulldogs got off to a slow start and Coach Sonny Cumbie says they have to start faster….

The Bulldogs are now 3-and-4, 2-and-1 in Conference USA. Tech only has a few days to get ready for their next game as they will visit Middle Tennessee on Tuesday night.

LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese has two more years of eligibility left, but Reese says she’s treating this season as her last. The national champs tip off the season on November sixth against Colorado in Las Vegas.

Louisiana Tech found themselves down 35-7 at halftime to Western Kentucky last the night. The Bulldogs rallied in the second half but came up short and lost to the Hilltoppers 35-28. Tech had trouble containing Malachi Corley who had eight catches for 207 yards and three touchdowns.

There’s more college football in north Louisiana tomorrow as ULM hosts South Alabama. Both teams are 0-1 in the Sun Belt. The Warhawks suffered a heart breaking loss to Appalachian State last week.

Big game for the Ragin Cajuns tomorrow as U-L Lafayette hosts Texas State. The Bobcats are 5-and-1 and led by former LSU Quarterback T-J Finley who has thrown ten touchdown passes and has just one interception.

After winning in Lake Charles last Saturday, Nicholls will host Houston Christian at 3 PM. McNeese is at Texas A-and-M Commerce, Southeastern Louisiana visits UIW and Northwestern state travels to Lamar.

Grambling looks to go 3-0 in the SWAC as they visit Alcorn state.

23rd ranked LSU could be involved in another offensive shootout on Saturday when the Tigers visit the undefeated 21st ranked Missouri Tigers. Mizzou quarterback Brady Cook has played very well this season, completing 74-percent of his passes for 1,488 yards, 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Louisiana Tech can improve to 3-0 in Conference USA tonight if they can beat Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers are the preseason pick to win the league and they have the best quarterback in the conference in Austin Reed. LSU baseball’s 2023 recruiting class is ranked as the third best in the country by Baseball America. The first fall-squad practice is today. Star third baseman Tommy White will miss the fall ball because of shoulder surgery.

Saints defensive tackle Bryan Bresee (bruh-ZEE) was at practice today after missing yesterday with an illness.

Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise and Ohio’s Jim Jordan are the top candidates to replace ousted Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House. There have been questions about Scalise’s health and if he’s up to the job, as he undergoes treatment for Multiple Myeloma. The Advocate’s Mark Ballard, who’s in DC, believes Scalise’s health is not an issue.

Both men have been strongly aligned with former President Donald Trump. As for where they might differ, Ballard says Jordan has been very outspoken against aid for Ukraine, compared to Scalise who hasn’t been as vocal on the issue.

Even though Jordan denies knowledge of a sexual abuse scandal while he was an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University, Ballard says when you compare the two, Scalise has an advantage…

In the meantime, House members have been sent home until Tuesday night when they are set to hear from Scalise and Jordan and their bid for Speaker and vote the following day.

With the October 14th gubernatorial primary right around the corner, Attorney General Jeff Landry has $4.5 million in cash on hand and none of his opponents have a million dollars. Political Analyst Bernie Pinsonat says every poll has shown Landry with a big lead, which is making it hard for his competitors to raise money…

Treasurer John Schroder has $992 thousand in cash on hand. The main Democrat, former state transportation secretary Shawn Wilson reported $721 thousand in cash-on-hand, while Hunter Lundy has $827 thousand in cash on hand.

Republican Stephen Waguespack and  Slidell Senator Sharon Hewitt both reported under $300 thousand in cash on hand. Pinsonat says this puts Landry in a strong position for the runoff if there is one.

Landry received the backing of the state GOP before other Republicans jumped in the race and multiple endorsements followed. While polls report a runoff between Landry and Wilson, Pinsonat says Landry has a huge advantage in dollars over Wilson.

WWL-TV in New Orleans is reporting a state grand jury voted against indicting anyone on criminal charges in the collapse of the Hard Rock Hotel in 2019. Three workers were killed. An OSHA investigation found willful and serious safety violations committed by Heaslip Engineering in Metairie. But the firm is contesting those findings.

Laura McLaughlin was arrested on September 22nd on four counts of arson and one count of obstruction of justice. The state department of agriculture and forestry says McLaughlin was arrested again last week for a second obstruction of justice charge.

Brooks’ speech and ability to communicate have been impacted by the extensive surgery to remove the tumor that was located on the cerebellum and brainstem.

Meanwhile, Brooks’ teammates are getting ready for their trip to Missouri. The Tigers are trying to get more from their defensive line, which is why they brought in former assistant D-line coach Pete Jenkins as an analyst. LSU defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo says he’s soaking in Pete’s knowledge…

Economist Loren Scott is predicting Louisiana will add nearly 39-thousand jobs in 2024 and another 42-thousand jobs in 2025. Scott says he’s predicting these type of job gains because of 154-billion dollars worth of industrial projects in the queue along the I-10 corridor. Scott says the next two years should also be good for Central Louisiana.

The state transportation department is upgrading 12 hundred traffic signals in Louisiana to include flashing yellow left-turn arrows. DOTD spokesperson Rodney Mallett says a yellow flashing turn arrow lets motorists know they should yield to oncoming traffic when turning left.

A study by Bradley University reveals flashing yellow arrows reduce left turn-related crashes by 32 percent.
