Tomorrow night in Tiger Stadium, it is third ranked Texas A&M versus 20th ranked LSU. Last year, LSU’s defense allowed A&M quarterback Marcel Reed to come off the bench and rush for three touchdowns in the 38-23 loss for the Tigers. LSU sophomore defensive tackle Ahmad Breaux remembers it all too well and says the team is more prepared this time around.

LSU linebacker Whit Weeks remains doubtful with a bone bruise on his ankle, but Coach Brian Kelly says defensive tackle Bernard Gooden and edge rusher Jimari Butler are expected to play after missing last week’s loss to Vanderbilt due to injuries.

For the Saints, Chris Olave, Chase Young, and Alontae Taylor were all back at practice yesterday after missing Wednesday’s practice. New Orleans hosts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at 3:05.

The Ragin Cajuns will look to turn around their season on Saturday when they visit Troy. U-L Lafayette is 2-5 overall, while the Trojans are 5-2, 3-0 in the Sun Belt. U-L Lafayette Coach Michael Desormeaux still has belief in his team despite the outside noise and says the Cajuns will not quit.

The federal government has announced they are charging more than 30 people for illegal gambling activity and an NBA game played in New Orleans in  is part of their investigation. Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier is accused of participating in an illegal sports betting scheme. In a game against the Pelicans in 2023, Rozier left the game early and never returned. Sports bettors said on social media at the time that there was something shady about Rozier’s departure from the game.

The Pelicans host San Antonio on Friday night for their home opener.

The NBA is facing a gambling scandal. Portland Coach Chauncey Phillips has been arrested in an illegal poker operation tied to the mafia, the FBI is accusing Cavaliers assistant coach Damon Jones of providing insider information to bettors, and the Miami Heat’s Terry Rozier has also been arrested for allegedly participating in an illegal sports betting scheme. The investigation is looking at a game Rozier played in New Orleans in 2023, where he took himself out of the contest after only playing a few minutes.  Several bettors posted on social media at the time that it was shady.

Six-foot-seven sophomore tight end Trey’Dez Green has become LSU’s best weapon on offense. In his last two games. Green has 193 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Green spent time playing with the LSU basketball team last year but made the transition to just football this year. Coach Brian Kelly says Green has done all the things necessary to break out this season.

ULM is coming off a frustrating 37-14 loss to Troy on Saturday, falling to 3-and-4 on the year. Head coach Bryant Vincent says the Warhawks are not giving up on the season, and the team will continue to bring the fight each game.

LSU missed linebacker Whit Weeks in the loss to Vanderbilt, and it doesn’t look like he’ll play this Saturday against 3rd ranked Texas A&M. On the first availability report of the week, Weeks is listed as doubtful with a bone bruise that has him in a walking boot.

Coach Brian Kelly says defensive tackle Bernard Gooden is questionable to play Saturday against the Aggies. Gooden missed the Commodores game with a collarbone injury. Senior defensive end Jimari Butler is probable with an ankle injury after missing last week.

The Pelicans led by 11 points at half last night but were outscored by 19 in the third quarter and lost to Memphis 128 to 122 to begin a new regular season. Zion Williamson had 29 points for the Pels, but Ja Morant had 35 for Memphis.

 

The Saints return to New Orleans this Sunday and will host their divisional rival, the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield did not hide his dislike for the Black and Gold…

Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase, Patriots linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson and Browns safety Grant Delpit were named the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special teams Players of the Week after their week 7 performances. It’s the first time in NFL history that all three conference players of the week were college teammates. Chase, Chaisson and Delpit were all key contributors on LSU’s 2019 national championship team.

And Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello has left Knoxville as he’s been hired as the new manager of the San Francisco Giants.

A 26-year-old woman from Wisconsin who was in New Orleans for a concert at the Smoothie King Center is dead and authorities are trying to figure out what happened. State Police found the body of Edashia Caraway on the I-10 Twin span. St. Tammany Parish coroner Christopher Tape says the manner of death is homicide from a hit-and-run. Tape says she traveled to Louisiana alone…

That’s also far above the national average of 13-percent. Data and Research Director Teresa Falgoust (FAAL-goo) says economic factors are a major reason behind the spike.

As the legislature gets set to debate the primary schedule for next year’s federal elections, the lieutenant governor leaves no doubt on what he thinks about party primaries.

A special session begins tomorrow. It’s expected to be a short session as legislators are seeking to push back the dates of the party primary elections for Senator Cassidy’s seat and U-S House races. Currently, the first party primary is in April and it will likely be pushed back at least a month in case the Supreme Court rules the current Congressional map is unconstitutional.

Nungesser says closed primaries are a major reason why the political climate in this country is as bad as it’s ever been.

Nungesser says whereas open primaries yield a more representative government, closed primaries usually leave general election voters a choice between two extremists.

Nearly every state in the country has party primaries for federal offices; California, Washington and Alaska are the only states in which all candidates of all parties appear on the same ballot. Nungesser says if all states followed their lead, the rhetoric would be toned down considerably on Capitol Hill, and things would actually get done for the benefit of the American people.

Nungesser says more than 70-percent of Louisianans favor open primaries, and the legislature should listen to them and scrap the closed primaries.

Authorities are investigating the mysterious death of a young woman from Wisconsin who was found dead on the I-10 Twin Spans in an apparent hit-and-run. St. Tammany Parish Coroner Christopher Tape says Edashia Caraway was in New Orleans for the NBA Youngboy concert.

Caraway was to have flown home Tuesday morning, instead that morning State Police responded to a report of a body on Twin Spans at approximately mile marker 26 eastbound. Tape says Caraway traveled to Louisiana alone.

Tape says Caraway perished of multiple blunt force injuries due to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian impact. The manner of death is homicide from hit and run. The coroner says State Police and other law enforcement agencies are trying to determine how she ended up on the Twin Span…

Falgoust says the lack of affordability of child care is another reason why so many kids in Louisiana live in poverty today.

Agenda for Children says rising prices and the expiration of pandemic-era policies have plunged an additional 80-thousand kids into poverty in Louisiana in the last three years.

The F-A-A is investigating two separate fatal plane crashes that occurred in Louisiana that killed a total of four people. In Lafayette Parish, three people from Texas died when a plane went down near Gloria Switch Road and LA Highway 93. A few hours later, another plane went down in Jackson Parish near the Ruston Airport, killing the pilot, the sole occupant of the plane.
