The U.S. Senate Banking Committee will hear testimony today on the reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program. Senator Bill Cassidy says it’s an opportunity for Louisianans to tell Americans how unaffordable flood insurance has become.

The LSU men’s basketball team nearly pulled off a nice come from behind victory on the road but the Georgia Bulldogs survived a missed three-point shot at the buzzer by Jordan Wright to beat the Tigers 68-66. The Bayou Bengals were down by eight with 2:55 to go and actually took a one point lead on a three point play by Jalen Cook. But Georgia converted a three point play of its own in the final seconds to win.

Be prepared for another round of heavy rainfall today, especially for central and south Louisiana. A strong line of storms is moving across the state this morning. It’s already hit Lake Charles, Alexandria is getting it now and Lafayette could experience flooding rains between 8 and 9 AM this morning.

According to Lending-tree dot-com, Louisiana ranks second in the country for the percentage of households owned and occupied by single women. It’s at 15-percent. Most of the other mock drafts have Daniels going as high as number three to the New England Patriots. After he was announced as the winner of the Manning Award, Daniels was asked how his game could translate to the NFL. He believes his speed will be a huge asset…

LSU football coach Brian Kelly has reportedly filled the last spot on his coaching staff by hiring Lake Charles native Slade Nagle. Nagle has been an assistant at Tulane for the last eight seasons, seven of those years he was the Green Wave’s tight ends coach, a role he’s expected to take on at LSU.

History was made at the Smoothie King Center last night as the Pelicans set a franchise record for points scored in a game as New Orleans defeated the Utah Jazz 153 to 124. C-J McCollum had a season high 33 points as he went nine of 13 from three point territory. Zion Williamson had 17 points and a career-high 11 assists. The Pels close out their four game homestand by hosting Oklahoma City on Friday night.

The LSU men’s basketball team begins a two-game road trip tonight in Georgia. Both teams were expected to finish towards the bottom of the SEC standings, but the Tigers and Bulldogs are 3-and-2 in conference play.

Tomorrow night in the Maravich Center it’s the big game between top ranked South Carolina and ninth ranked LSU. The Lady Tigers have lost 14 straight to the Gamecocks who are undefeated this season.

Former LSU defensive lineman Fitzgerald West has transferred to U-L Lafayette. West helped Lafayette Christian reach the state title game four straight years. West spent two seasons at LSU and did not receive a lot of playing time.

Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves, whose district was completely redrawn in the newly passed congressional map is criticizing the Republican-controlled state legislature and Governor Landry for their support of the map.  He says it could ultimately hurt the GOP’s status in the US House.

Graves, a Republican, says the legislature didn’t have to redraw the map to include a second Majority-Black district, with the potential to elect another Democrat. While he says Judge Shelly Dick made it clear she didn’t like the map passed in 2022, it was still making its way through the courts.

Graves says the new map also jeopardizes key committee appointments in DC for Louisiana, like the Chair of Transportation and Infrastructure.  It’s a vital appointment for much-needed projects like the new Calcasieu River and Mississippi River Bridges. And more…

Despite frustration over his district being redrawn Graves says he plans to run for his sixth term in Congress in the fall.

State Police reminds drivers of large commercial trucks and 18-wheelers that driving through the I-20 construction zone in Bossier City is off limits. DOTD Spokesperson Erin Buchanan says accidents involving large trucks have increased on that stretch of highway that is down to one lane.

Last month a ban went into effect to keep large trucks from driving through the construction zone.

Buchanan says law enforcement have issued more than 200 warnings and citations. She says there are plenty of signs in the area…

Concrete barriers were added as a safety precaution to prevent drivers from leaving the travel lane and entering the area where lanes are actively being removed and reconstructed.

As work continues, Buchanan says drivers of oversize loads should remain vigilant while driving through Bossier between Hamilton Road and Industrial Drive. She encourages truck drivers to use the I-220 detour to help keep everyone safe.

Four people were shot during a drive-by shooting in Lafayette this morning. Lafayette Police Sergeant Robin Green says three men were standing outside of a home on Sunset Drive when shots were fired from a passing vehicle that stopped in front of the home

Green says two of the victims are in critical condition and two are in stable condition. She says when officers arrived they found a man on the ground….

A judge has ruled the suspect in the November stabbing attack on the Louisiana Tech campus is mentally fit to stand trial despite claims by 23-year-old Jacoby Johnson that he hears voices. Police say Johnson killed one person and injured three others. Johnson’s attorney plans to appeal the ruling.
