ULM will look to make a statement on Saturday night when they host James Madison. The Dukes are 4-and-0, while the Warhawks are 3-and-1 and coming off a victory over Troy to kick-off Sun Belt play.

U-L Lafayette begins Sun Belt action on Saturday versus Southern Miss. It’s the 55th meeting between the two schools and the Cajuns only victory in Hattiesburg came in 1989. Southern Miss is off to a rough start as they are 1-and-3. Cajuns Coach Michael Desormeaux says these are the games you need to win to win a Sun Belt title…

Louisiana Tech’s next game is Thursday at home against Middle Tennessee. Bulldogs Coach Sonny Cumbie is turning over offensive play calling duties to co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Nathan Young.

Southeastern Louisiana welcomes Texas A-and-M Commerce to Hammond for its conference opener. Northwestern State resumes its rivalry versus Stephen F Austin. These two schools are meeting for the first time since 2019. Nicholls is at Southern. The last time these two teams met was in 2002 and the game was won by Nicholls 21-13 in Baton Rouge.

The Committee of 100 for economic development is optimistic Governor Jeff Landry’s plan to dramatically change the state’s tax code will result in a better Louisiana. CEO Adam Knapp says lower income taxes and corporate taxes will spur economic development and will boost population.

The major concerns are over the elimination of certain tax breaks and increasing the sales tax base, taxing services that are currently not taxed.

Two weeks from today is the start of Early Voting in Louisiana for the November presidential election. Absentee voting is already underway and Joel Watson with the Secretary of State’s office says the earlier you can request an absentee ballot the better…

The Tax Foundation is endorsing several components of Governor Jeff Landry’s tax reform plan. Senior Policy Analyst Manish Bhatt (Bot) says transitioning Louisiana’s tax code from the current graduated-rate income tax to a single rate is sound tax policy. Bhatt says if Louisiana enacts comprehensive tax reform, the state will increase its competitiveness and cultivate a pro-growth environment…

Helene has killed at least 213 and the death toll in Buncombe County is 72 and authorities say the number of people reported missing in that county stands at over 200.

The Committee of 100 for Economic Development says Governor Landry’s tax reform plan would boost investment and economic growth at a time when Louisiana could really use both. CEO Adam Knapp says the committee studied this issue in 2015, and many of the things that Landry is proposing are the same as the committee proposed back then. Among them is simplifying the business tax code to lower taxes while removing loopholes.

Landry is proposing a flat three-percent tax on incomes over 12-thousand-500 dollars.

Twenty Louisiana State Police officers are in North Carolina helping with relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Captain Nick Manale….

Just about 40-percent of Louisiana residents report getting less than seven hours of sleep per night and a lack of sleep poses a risk to physical and mental health. Sean Richardson has the story.

Hundreds of dock workers at the Port of New Orleans and Port of Greater Baton Rouge return to work today as the International Longshoremen’s Association has suspended it’s strike after three days until January 15th. The union is seeking higher wages and the ports have reportedly increased their wage offer.

Louisiana is a state where many have trouble getting quality sleep. Doctor Phillip Connor, who just opened a second Sleep Disorder Center of Louisiana in Lafayette says sleep apnea is linked to obesity, smoking, and pollution and can cause serious health issues, including high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes.

A Natchitoches Police officer is on administrative leave after he was arrested for allegedly selling anabolic steroids. The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office booked 36-year-old Jonas McFerrin on two drug charges and one count of malfeasance in office. Natchitoches Police Chief Nikeo Collins says the actions of any law enforcement officer that violate the law and abuse the public trust’s are unacceptable and require swift action.

Daniels has led the Commanders to a 3-and-1 start and he’s completed 82-percent of his passes for nearly 900 yards. He’s also accounted for seven touchdowns, four of them on the ground. A 20-year-old from Tensas Parish has been arrested in the murder of a Baton Rouge Therapist. East Baton Rouge deputies have charged Terryon Thomas with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice in the death of 69-year-old William Abraham. A motive is not known. Thomas is known TikTok and goes by the name Mr. Prada.
