Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler has submitted his resignation letter to the governor, in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal involving his former secretary, Dawn Ross. Schedler refutes many of the allegations, but Ross’s attorney Jill Craft says his resignation sends a clear signal to other would be harassers.

Louisiana Senator John Kennedy is asking the legislature to put the breaks on a new deal for Harrah’s casino in New Orleans. Jim Shannon has details.

Florists came to the capitol today to help defeat a bill that sought to end the licensing requirement for florists. Louisiana is the only state to require such an occupational certification. Floral wholesaler Audrey Lemoine says removing license requirements would flood the marketplace with cut rate work from retailers.

Advancing in the legislature is a bill that would let parishes decide if fantasy sports betting through companies like Draft Kings and Fan Duel should be legal. The House-approved bill heads to the Senate floor, for what could be final passage.

Stephen Curry is expected to play tonight as the Pelicans and Warriors meet in Game two of their Western Conference semifinal series. Curry has missed the last five weeks with a knee sprain. Meanwhile, New Orleans is looking to bounce back after a 22 point loss in Game 1. Coach Alvin Gentry says he doesn’t want his guys to feel extra pressure, just because they lost the first game of the series….

Anthony Davis and Rajon Rondo both say they need to play with more intensity on the defensive end after Golden State scored 41 points in the second quarter and 76 in the first half on Saturday night. Tip off is at 9:30 tonight.

The Benson family has another horse racing in the Kentucky Derby, Lone Sailor, and today he drew post position number eight. Lone Sailor recently finished second at the Louisian Derby on March 24th, one day after Tom Benson was laid to rest. James Graham will ride Lone Sailor and currently a longshot to win 50-1.

NFL executive vice president Troy Vincent said the league is not looking to eliminate kickoffs, but they are considering new rule changes in the hopes of making the play safer. A proposed change to kickoffs could be presented to the owners at their meeting later this month.

LSU baseball has lost six of eight and there is no midweek game this week because of final exams. Coach Paul Mainieri says the break is coming at a good time, because he believes his team is mentally and physicall drained after back-to-back weekend road trips. Mainieri says his team returns to practice today and they’ll have a couple of simulated games so some of their struggling pitchers can get some work….

State Police launched an internal investigation after a New Orleans T-V station aired surveillance video that showed two Troopers filed for overtime pay for hours they didn’t work,.

Former Baton Rouge police officer Blane Salamoni, who was involved in the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling, is now facing a battery charge from a separate arrest that took place one month before the shooting. John Mclindon is Salamoni’s attorney and was asked about possible jail time for his client.

University Hospital and Clinics in Lafayette has notified 770 employees that they could be laid off, and the facility shut down under proposed spending plans that slashes state funding for public-private partnership hospitals. Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne says they are not the only jobs at risk.

Dardenne says the public-private system was created after Charity Hospitals were dismantled under the Jindal Administration, and focus on covering the underinsured.

House GOP Chairman Lance Harris is defending the House backed budget that funds education, but slashes healthcare, ahead of a special session that is expected to start mid may. The budget has come under fire for threatening to eliminate public-private partnership hospitals and residency programs, but Harris says it’s just a first step in long budget process that he expects will carry over into a special session.

The Alexandria Republican anticipates a May 18th special session being called by the governor to fill the 648 million dollar budget gap reflected in the House budget, but he says the legislature will likely not increase income taxes to replace expiring sales taxes.

Harris says he sees two options for funding those healthcare priorities: keeping a piece of the expiring one cent sales tax, and eliminating sales tax deductions for certain industries in an anticipated special session.

Reeves says this has been a long and unfortunate journey….

Over 900 farmers and ranchers are receiving grants averaging 9900 dollars for disaster recovery efforts resulting from the 2016 floods. Ag Commissioner Mike Strain says it’s long overdue.

Strain says the grants will fill a reimbursement gap for farmers who’ve suffered damages that were uninsured.

State Police announce two current and former Troopers have been arrested on charges that include theft, malfeance and filing false records. Authorities say they filed and altered records in order to receive more overtime pay as part of a program that provides them extra cash for traffic enforcement. Colonel Kevin Reeves calls it an extremely disappointing day for their agency.

An LSU police officer is being sought for allegedly battering his girlfriend and holding her hostage overnight. Twenty-five-year-old Samuel Ellis the Third is facing charges of 2nd Degree Battery and False Imprisonment as a result. Baton Rouge Police Spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola says it was a brutal crime.

Investigators are trying to determine if severed heads discovered last month near lakes in Texas and Louisiana are connected. Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson says the head found in his parish next to Highway 27 and one in Texas are eerily similar.

The Texas and Louisiana connection according to Johnson seems to point toward a serial killer. The heads were found in similar surroundings about 150 miles apart at Lake Houston and Calcasieu Lake.

An inmate doing clenup labor found the severed head in Cameron Parish on March 1st. Volunteers cleaning near Lake Houston made their discovery on March 24th. Johnson believes that another body discovered in his parish in 2016 could also be a part of these similar crimes.

A reported LSUPD Officer being sought by police for allegedly battering his girlfriend and holding her hostage overnight. Twenty-five-year-old Samuel Ellis III was charged with 2nd Degree Battery and False Imprisonment as a result. Baton Rouge Police Spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola says it was a brutal crime.

BRPD has not confirmed Ellis’s occupation.

Coppola says Ellis’s girlfriend survived the assault, but was badly hurt.
