Former Lutcher standout Thaddeus Watis of Convent, was one of the people killed. He was a freshman at Arkansas Baptist College. Twenty-three-year-old Dedrick Paul Green Junior died at a local hospital.

Two juveniles were killed this morning in a mobile home fire in the Claiborne Parish town of Homer. State Fire Marshal spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says the ages on the victims are 16 and 4-years-old

The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana has a page on their website that provides information on how you can recycle your Christmas tree. But before the playoffs begin, the Saints will host Carolina in the regular season finale. It’s a game were the starters could see limited action. And the Panthers could reportedly start their third string quarterback. Cam Newton has already been shut down for the season, with a shoulder injury, while backup Taylor Heinicke is heading to I-R with an elbow injury. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Carolina will likely start former Texas A-and-M Aggie Kyle Allen.

The Pelicans are in Dallas tonight, looking to snap a four-game losing streak that has seen them drop to 14th place in the 15-team Western Conference. Tip-off is at 7:30.

The Saints opponents for 2019 have been determined. Besides home and away games against NFC South opponents, the Black and Gold will also host Arizona, San Francisco, Houston, Dallas and Indianapolis next season, while they’ll visit Tennessee, Seattle, Chicago, the Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville.

On Christmas Day, LSU received a verbal pledge from the nation’s number one rated cornerback. California native Elias Ricks announced he plans to play for the Tigers. Ricks also received scholarship offers from Alabama, USC, Ohio State and Georgia.

Sad news out of St. James Parish. Former Lutcher High standout Thaddeus Watis was fatally shot in a quadruple shooting that happened on Christmas Eve on Main Street in Lutcher. Watis was one of two people killed, two others were injured. St. James Parish deputies have not determined a motive in the shooting. A reward of up to five-thousand dollars is available for information leading to the arrest.

Authorities in southeast Louisiana are looking to make arrests in two separate fatal shootings. Tangipahoa Sheriff Daniel Edwards is looking for information into the shooting deaths of 42-year-old Daytra Miller and her 13-year-old son Robert West on Sunday night. On Christmas Eve night, two people were also killed and two others wounded in a shooting on Main Street in Lutcher.

The Lafayette Public Library has caught the attention of the ACLU for its ban on Drag Queen Story time events, saying the ban is a first amendment violation. Kevin Barnhart has more…

Research from LSU business professor Reginald Tucker finds there’s a link between ADHD and Entrepreneurship. Tucker says his research indicates that higher education should begin moving away from a stigmatization of the disease, and consider pushing students with ADHD to enter career fields that suit their attributes, because one size does not fit all.

The state Fire Marshal’s office says two juveniles died in a mobile home fire early this morning in the Claiborne Parish town of Homer.

Alexandria Police detectives are trying to determine if two Christmas Day fatal shootings that happened within minutes of each other are connected. Two of the victims are women, one found inside a car, the other in a home. 58-year-old Wendell Reed of Alexandria was also found dead in that home from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

A group called In Defense of Animals wants to see legislation approved in 2019 to make sure those who are guilty in severe cases of animal cruelty receive at least some prison time. Doll Stanley on the new sentencing law they are seeking…

Stanley says two 17-year-olds in Bastrop recently slit a dog’s throat and posted it on Snap chat, but only received a fine and one-year of probation. An Opelousas woman also didn’t receive jail time for burning a horse with battery acid.

The reward has been doubled to 25-hundred dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for killing a woman and her 13-year-old son on Sunday in the town of Independence. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards believes the shooter knew the mother and son.

The ACLU of Louisiana has filed a lawsuit challenging the Lafayette Public Library’s ban on Drag Queen Story Time. The library requires anyone who wants to use space at the library to sign a form saying they are not holding a drag queen event at the library. ACLU legal director Katie Schwartzmann says it’s a violation of constitutional rights…

There has been no response from the library on the lawsuit.

On the other hand, the Saints defense is playing as well as anyone in the NFL. In their last six games, the opponents have failed to score more than 17 points. Meanwhile, the Steelers are coming off a big win over the New England Patriots Kick-off is at 3:25.

The Pelicans are in Los Angeles tonight to face the Lakers. And this game has raised the speculation that one day New Orleans All-Star Anthony Davis could be traded to the Lakers and play with LeBron James. James said earlier this week that it would be amazing to play with Davis. Today, Pels Head Coach Alvin Gentry said the franchise is not trading A-D under any circumstance. Davis is under contract with the Pelicans next season and then the year after, it’s a player option worth almost 29-million dollars a year.

Should be a good crowd on hand tonight for the LSU Tigers home game against 24th ranked Furman. The Tigers are looking for their first win over a ranked opponent. They’ve already lost Florida State and Houston this season. Tip-off is at 7 PM.

Also tonight, ULM hosts Copping State.

And tomorrow, Louisiana Tech goes after its fifth straight bowl victory when they take on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the Hawaii Bowl. The Warriors are led by quarterback Cole McDonald who has thrown for 37-hundred yards and 35 touchdowns, while the Bulldogs pass defense is allowing just 194 yards a game.

President Donald Trump is warning the government could be shut down, starting at midnight, “for a very long time” if Congress does not include 5.7 billion dollars for a border wall in its end of the year spending bill. Senator Bill Cassidy says they had the votes for an extension to February 8th, but…

A quarter of the government would close in the event of a shutdown, meaning furloughs for hundreds of thousands of federal workers, and mandatory, unpaid work time for those deemed “essential”.

Cassidy blames Democrats for the budget hold-up, and says a fully funded government bill would be possible if they would accept the border wall funding. He says it’s part of Democrats refusal to work with the President.

An original compromise bill with 1 billion in border security funding passed the Senate, but was publicly rejected by the President.

The Senator says he’s optimistic that the shutdown will not prevent an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program from keeping homes insured through February 8th.

Louisiana’s longest-serving Supreme Court justice has died.  Former Chief Justice Pascal Calogero was 87.  He was first elected to the state’s highest court in 1972, serving for nearly 36 years.  For 18 years, he was chief justice, before retiring in 2008.  Clancy DuBos, who once served as clerk for Calogero, says he had a tremendous impact on the judicial system.

DuBos says knowing Calogero for over four decades, he was always of calm temperament.

The holidays aren’t always cheery for everyone. Studies show depression increases during holiday seasons, and Office of Behavior Health Medical Director Dr. James Hussey says weight gain from winter celebrations, increased holiday workplace demands and deadlines, and social isolation can to spiraling in depression prone people.

But Hussey says the holiday pressures don’t have to be crippling. He says depression can lead to people shutting themselves in, when the best thing they could be doing is getting out and helping others who may be struggling.

And the doctor says keep in mind that a lot of those demands you feel have been placed on you around the holidays may just be your mind playing tricks on you.

The National Retail Federation says they are seeing procrastination in holiday shopping and expect around 61% of holiday shoppers to wrap up with gift buying this week leading up to Christmas. NRF spokesperson Katherine Cullen says it’s a big number that are getting looped into the last minute shopping.

Cullen says every year, the NRF sees the trend of people procrastinating and saving up their holiday shopping for this week, but this year, people are putting things off a little bit more than normal for the final Saturday before Christmas known as “Super Saturday.”

Cullen says the main reason people are putting off the shopping is that they are still trying to figure out what to purchase.  She adds men are most likely to put off shopping until the last minute.
